I think people who said that are condescending people. They hear South East Asia & they asume all countries in it are developing countries with all goods & services being cheap. They obviously are ignorant & did not care to read about the country they are about to visit.
Put them in a chaotic place in a South East Asian city for a week maybe they really love eating street food created by using feet to marinate, fried food using cooking oil that's reused countless times and difficultly of finding board certified doctors. 😂
as a singaporean, i can understand why it's boring. even for us locals, we're run out of places to visit or things to do. the tourist attractions are packed right smack in the city. you get the museums, the marina bay area, the singapore river area and sprinkles of supposedly what's left of our local culture like chinatown and little india. truth is, we've cleaned up so much that even for locals we have no idea what the singapore culture is. food is priced slightly above affordable now from $6-$8 which is a lot actually. other attractions are sentosa island and our zoo or the night safaris. besides all that we really have nothing special as compared to our southeast asian neighbours. that's why singaporeans love to travel to johor bahru in malaysia for weekend trips or even fly over to indonesia. it's an efficient city-state but it has no soul. we're too cleaned up to appear beautiful in tourists eyes but everyone here is secretly wishing they could relocate. this city-state is worth visiting for 2-3 days and anything more than that you'll get bored fast.
There are 2 groups don’t like visiting Singapore. 1 has never been, only believes hearsay. The other has visited but didn’t do their homework to travel deep instead of wide. I’ve been twice (7 days total) within 6 months and there are tons I didn’t have times to do. Will definitely come back more to explore.
Expensive since no beautiful beaches, not a paradise, boring- no watersports, no thrills and exitement which the philippines, thailand, and indonesia can offer
As a singaporean, I disagree. I take pride in my country and will confidently say that my country is the epitome of what a city can and should be. My disagreement comes from 2 main reason, cities aren't for everyone, and that the "perfect-ness" of this country makes it feel artificial. Both of these points work hand in hand, there really isn't much to do in Singapore that is outside the confines of "city." The artificial-ness also leaves a weird feeling for many travellers. A visiting friend of mind described it as "the country feels too perfect that it is surreal and I don't feel like I belong" -- a sentiment shared by many Singaporeans

We may not have the most beautiful beaches but SG is still a paradise for some people.
it is just too small. and singapore become developed thanks to american. I think if malaysia is not muslim maybe america can help malaysia to be developed too
Singapore is a developed country but not officially. They refused to become a developed nation on papers bcos they dont want to contribute to world bank and have their tariff increase.

Singapore is a unique destination - especially by SE Asisn standards. Yes... it is small, expensive, and has a 'western' vibe. All true. However, it is a fantastic travel destination for short stays (3 or 4) days in order to catch your breath while on your way to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, or other parts of South East Asia. In contrast to those places, Singapore is incredibly safe and clean and English is spoken almost everywhere by everyone. All signs are also in English. You will have no communication problems in Singapore. You don't have to worry about scams or petty crimes, like purse snatching, because they are virtually nonexistent. There are no illegal drugs or drug related problems. The laws are strict and are strictly enforced - but visitors have nothing to worry about. Singapore isn't a police state. I doubt you will ever even see a policeman. The accommodations are world class and you will find no better tasting food (of all varieties) any where in the world. Food at the hawker centers are excellent and provide good value for your money. Public transportation is also excellent and also a good value. Singapore also has one of the best and most efficient airports in the world - ditto Singapore Airlines. In short, Singapore is well worth a visit at any time of the year - but be prepared for extreme heat and humidity at all times. Yes, I have used a lot of superlatives in this review, but if you visit, you will see exactly what I mean. Do yourself a favor, give Singapore a try - you won't regret it. It is a unique, remarkable travel destination - not to be missed! ✌
@@haziqaminuddin2979 Uh, I didn't say that petty scams were nonexistent - I said they are VIRTUALLY nonexistent. Perhaps I should have said they are rare... would that suffice? However, compared to other countries in Southeast Asia that I have visited, petty scams involving tourists in Singapore are indeed ALMOST NONEXISTENT. Petty scams should not be a concern. Buying gemstones in Bangkok or female companionship in Saigon? Well, you see where I'm going. Right, dude?
Singapore was the first international country I ever visited and it was an unforgettable experience. The only expensive thing in Singapore were the hotels. The unexpected thing is, Singapore is a developed country, but ONLY the hotels were expensive. Food and transport was SO cheap.
That's because land is so scarce, thus the expensive land cost which impacts the property costs 😊 Such a small country houses millions of people. Can you imagine if hotels are cheap in SG, how much population from the world will flock in? 😅

I've been to Singapore 4 times and I loved each and every visit. None of those 3 reasons have and effect on me whatsoever. Singapore may be small but it's far from boring, there's so many attractions and a good number of them you don't have to pay for. Of course it's also expensive because it's a very intriguing mix of traditional and modern, plus I'm from NYC so I'm used to places that are pretty pricey. I've been to Tokyo a couple of times to know the score. Singapore is kinda westernized but does have Asian customs and definitely law regulations. I feel a lot safer in Singapore than anywhere else in the West.

Yes indeed, Singapore is terrible place to go for people with exceedingly high unrealistic expectations! For these people, please, don't come. Don't even transit at the airport! Just be on your way to some rural road in the middle of nowhere without the amenities of life. Yes, please do that.

I lived there in the mid to late 90s. Went from india to work as an engineer. Singapore maybe small but it packs a punch. I absolutely loved it and it is incredibly easy to travel to neighboring countries. Also the size of a place should not mean much to us as humans .... Singapore can be fun even if you live there for 2 years like I did. Would love to go back .... I live too far now ... In the US..... My family has heard so much about Singapore from me .... They're like ..... Lets go already la😅

I don't care about other people's thoughts. My own experience is enough to make me love Singapore. The locals are so kind and them being expensive is expected. Come on, it's Singapore. What are you expecting for? Something cheap? Just go somewhere else. I'm okay with everything there.
Seems like u did ur research!! SG is alot more affordable than most thought. We eat at coffee shops and hawker centres.. or even shop houses or restaurants. I'm still exploring my 'little' home as a local.😊
For me Singapore is the world’s best country to visit. Last year, I had been there and next month I’m travelling there again. If I could get the opportunity, I would love to settle down in Singapore forever. 😊❤

Whoo glad that u enjoyed Singapore! But pls take note that if u want to settle down in Singapore is that the cars and houses are very expensive. Also that if u have kids the education system is so top notch that u might have to give ur kids tuition or some help. Other than that yeah Sg is not actually that expensive and for the safety and greenery and spirit and high tech stuff it’s really great to live in

I think a reason that many people don't travel to Singapore is: Some people believe that the laws there are too strict. I admit I had these beliefs at first. And this was why I never been to Singapore and chose other places. But, my beliefs has changed. Afterall, a lot of people said bad things about China. But, when I went, it was FUN FUN FUN and it was one of the best experiences I had in my whole life.
Singapore 🇸🇬 also known variously as the “Lion City” or “Garden City,” the latter for its many parks and tree-lined streets-has also been called “instant Asia” because it offers the tourist an expeditious glimpse into the cultures brought to it by immigrants from all parts of Asia. It is not your typical South East Asia city that you have visited i.e. Thailand🇹🇭, Philippines 🇵🇭, Malaysia 🇲🇾, Indonesia 🇮🇩, Vietnam 🇻🇳, Cambodia 🇰🇭, Myanmar 🇲🇲 or even Brunei 🇧🇳. A combination of Modern Architecture surrounded by old British 🇬🇧 colonial buildings with lush foliage on the skyscrapers. Very westernized and contemporary yet still preserves the old rustic looks of old village settings. The price of accommodation and food tends to be on the pricey side if you dine on a mostly touristy flank. Go to hawker centers for cheaper options in Singapore 🇸🇬. There is plenty of it here and to approximate is beyond comparison.
Singapore has since reinvented itself from Garden City to ‘City in A Garden’. Almost every estate and township have well-maintained greenery, as well as go-green concepts being incorporated. Litter free and organised is a huge plus.

Thank you very much for pointing out the facts. I'm a Singaporean. It's okay. Everyone's different so we don't expect everyone to like Singapore. Some say that we don't have the Asian vibe. Maybe it's because we speak mostly English here. A lot of tourists don't realise that we're a multiracial society. So English is the main language used here. Even in schools. Everything is taught in English. And we've many foreigners working here, especially in the service sector. It's true it's been getting more and more expensive here.
Just got back from vacation in Singapore and i missed it already. Lots of fun things to do there - we went to sea aquarium, universal studios, art science museum and boat ride around Marina Bay. Everywhere is clean..toilet is clean and river is clean. Worth a visit ❤❤

There's many interesting small lanes, nature walk spots and places with historical values when we take time to take it slow to explore all these interesting places. I love Singapore, my country, my home. 🇸🇬
I don’t disagree with anything you said, but the three points are valid imo. 1. Even if we just compare Singapore to other cities (not countries) in Asia, in terms of really unique sites, it is somewhat boring. It has nice malls, restaurants, and the amusement parks, but is that really something to go all the way to Singapore and spend so much money on? 2. Piggybacking off point one. For what’s being offered in Singapore, it is certainly expensive compared to other major Asian cities that offer the same things. 3. That you even have to point to a “Chinatown” or a “Little India” sorta underlines the point about people saying it’s very or too westernized. Yes, Chinatown has lots of Chinese culture and Little India has lots of Indian culture, but outside those places (I.e.-the majority of it), what culture are we looking at? It’s no shade though. 😂 I love Singapore and I love Singaporeans even more. ❤
yes and they expected Singapore to be like the rest of South East Asia and cheap. Not researching Singapore is the only developed country in South East Asia.
Or - hear me out - they don’t want to get caned for cussing, holding hands with their spouse, or drinking water on public transport. Call me crazy, but I don’t wanna travel to places like that.

@@TheBLGLWhat? That's ridiculous. Nobody's gonna get caned for any of those. Caning is reserved for really serious crimes. Cussing and holding hands (might be an issue in muslim countries but we're not one) totally okay in SG, won't get you even a fine. For drinking water the mrt staff usually close one eye, it's usually okay if done discreetly, never heard anyone being fined for that. It was a small Malay island called Temasik. The name h'b changed to Singapura. The Malay is no longer the majority. Come & visit Singapura/ Singapore, you will not be dissapointed❤
Thank you for speaking up for Singaporeans 😊Being "small" could be our advantage as well. Delicious foods from everywhere around the world can be found in Singapore and reached within minutes! Sure, other countries has delicious food as well but they may be hours of travel time apart.
Singapore, as a travel destination, is not for the low-budget backpacker's mindset. Expensive is relative. The people who include Singapore in their travel itinerary have budgeted for it. They want to see and experience the cosmopolitan environment, the orderliness, the blend of the different peoples of the world, their cultures, languages, religions, foods, dressing, the respect extended to different ones, etc. Singapore is a microcosm of the world, a melting pot in a harmonious blend of people the world over. Small and boring? Well, if you're myopic in your worldview at this juncture, we beg to differ. When you've traveled further, get older, acquired some nest eggs, you’ll find the convenience that Singapore offers is unbeatable. Convenience is the buzzword in Singapore for all peoples. Another is efficiency. Everything works on this island. Westernised? Cuts both ways. If you're English-speaking, one major hurdle is overcome immediately. English is spoken and used everywhere by everyone in every nook and corner and by all establishments. On the surface, from the outset, Singapore portrays a westernised society. Scratch the surface, and you'll find entrenched deep racial, religious, and cultural norms of the major compositions of the Singaporean and foreigners at play in a well-managed harmonious setting and space extended to all.
It’s an absolutely beautiful and wonderful place to visit. People who say those things do not know how to plan their trips well. Even in the most expensive cities in the world, you can travel budget friendly by doing your research well before hand. I’ve been to Singapore few times and I can say that public transportation and food is cheap. Plus you can always get cheap hotels online. So it’s all about doing your homework before hand

I feel like it's worse for Malaysia as it's neither here nor there: it's not as exotic as other Asian countries, while at the same time also doesn't attract tourists who prefer a more urban/modern/westernised country like Singapore. Also, yes sg is very safe but we always advise not to take safety for granted. Crime still does happen but at much lower rates compared to other places in the world.

The people who say that are probably ignorant and still think of Asia stereotypically as Oriental, backwater, cheap, etc. I'm kind of happy if they can stop more of their similar kind of ignorant people from coming to Singapore.
i think singapore is a great place to travel with if you like being safe, high tech architecture, accessible public transportation, good food, and ease of communication (most people speak English). I still find it a great place to travel to, and Singapore also changes developments really quickly. in 5 years it will be different from how it is now.
To the young people who live in Singapore, it is boring because the land is small. They see the same thing over and over again. But to the people who are married with kids, Singapore is safe and education is good for their kids. But as the kids grow to young teens & teens, most of them will feel the pressure & too much stress from school is not good too. To the tourists, it is good for them to come to Singapore for a visit. So all in all, Singapore has good and bad side of it, and it gives a different experiences for all.

Yeah Singapore is small but for short trip like 3 or 4 days, you can still enjoy a lot of things there. The only thing that kinda turns me off most of the time (i am a frequent visitor to SG) is most but not all are very rude or impatient so i kept saying sorry or need to be extra cautious when dealing with them when i was there 😅 but to summarize it, it is still a worth to visit country !
Plus half of the population are foreigners or settlers. When people deduce that locals have personality problem, so frustrating because how would you know if you're interacting with a Singaporean or a Malaysian? Plus ok we're not as friendly or warm as the Indonesians or Thais, we are generally more reserved and defensive that's all.
I think another really similar destination is Hong Kong but they are more fun and less boring. More nature and more history. Singapore’s tourist spots are too artificial. Garden by the bay, marina bay sands, Santosa etc. It’s like a Dubai in Asia where everything is new and shiny but very artificial. It’s like a theme park
Also, people mainly think it’s expensive because they go to mbs of course the prices are going to be crazy it’s literally the biggest tourist trap of all time
Yeah, people have the wrong expectations. I love visiting Singapore because it makes me feel rich! Especially when visiting Sentosa Island 😄😄 Apart from the theme parks, I actually love exploring the routes to Siloso Beach. I know it’s all manufactured but there’s just something calming about it when you’re on holiday. And for a Malaysian like me, Siloso gives that “different feel”, kinda like a manufactured Nice or Monaco.
My friend is living in Malaysia and he said to me that he traveled to Singapore once and compared to Malaysia, everything is quite expensive in Singapore.

Every time I visit Singapore, I am always fascinated by the different experiences that I encounter. Honestly, I feel like in a paradise. I like the food, the scene, the people, and all others. As if I am at the Bonifacio Global Center (BGC), Philippines, multiplied how many times. In Singapore, I don’t worry about going from one place to another. I feel so safe and tranquil. I can hear Mass and feel comfortable because English is spoken everywhere. Actually, the food servings at the Hawkers Center are good for two persons. I feel so safe in Singapore. You can leave anything and when you come back to the place where you left your things, surely you will find them on the same spot. Well, we can learn from the story about the elephant and the four (4) blind people. Mama, my mother is always telling us, “ food for you may be poison to others.”

1 more reason: Singapore has no natural landmarks like volcanoes, mountains, and few long nice rivers and lakes that are truly in nature. There are nature reserves in Singapore, but Singapore is more of a city living in nature, just not nature itself. Though this reason is much more logical than the others stated, it is true😂😢

Hmm most people usually visit the touristy places in Singapore (e.g. MBS, Chinatown, Little India etc.) since they are mostly featured in videos and advertisements. Of course these places are expensive since they are targeted towards tourists. Try visiting suburban areas like Punggol, Bishan, Pasir Ris, Sembawang etc. Interact with locals and you will see Singapore in a different light.
