If you have a ball possessed dog, then it's quite possi ble that if they are constantly playing with a tennis ball their teeth may become damaged.
The rough surface of a tennis ball contacting your dog's teeth acts like sandpaper on a piece of wood.
The rough surface can scrape off the enamel and wear the teeth so much that they become prone to fracture and infection.
Using a rubber ball will prevent this.

Spot on advice My 4 yr old GSD has significant canine tooth loss from abrasive tennis balls. This stopped when we switched to rubber balls. Made no difference to her one ball is as fun as the next but rubber balls saved her teeth

Whats even worse is handballs, when they get saliva on them they are almost impossible to grip and extract from a dogs throat.

For a different reason yes! That's why it's so important to make sure the ball is big enough it won't get stuck.

@@YourVetOnline absolutely! My lab's favorite hobby is catching 60 - 70 mph fastballs (tennis balls) thrown by myself. His K9's are rapidly wearing down and he is not even 3 yet. We do play for close to an hour a day and probably 100 fastballs caught during that time. I desperately need to find a replacement for the super abrasive tennis balls.

This is very hard to believe…wouldn’t an abrasive surface help clean teeth if anything? Definitely not any rougher than a toothbrush

You'd think it wouldn't cause a problem, but it does (we wouldn't say so otherwise - this channel is evidence-based). It's amazing how many ball-loving dogs have lost their tooth enamel!

Dogs teeth are designed to chew through bone. I'm pretty sure a tennis ball vs a solid beef bone are different bites. Hate when people try to misinform..

You missed the point.. The point is: If a dog can successfully chew through a solid bone with no issue a soft lush tennis ball should be no problem.

Eek...bone isn't rough. It doesn't have an abrasive surface like a tennis ball. Don't believe me? Take a tennis ball and a bone and rub against the back of your arm 50 times and tell us which one has caused a red raw spot.

@@YourVetOnline excellent point! Honestly, our not quite 3 year old Labrador is proof. Our lab's passion is tennis balls and his K9's are no longer pointy, they are rather flat. This has happened with extensive tennis ball catching at high velocity, but nonetheless it's true.
