Why PSVR2 for GT7 Might not be for Everyone - What are the Downsides to VR Racing? 

I loved 3D movies, it's the tech I miss the most. And the fact that psvr2 doesn't have 3D movie compatibility breaks my heart

VR guy here. It definitely is my favourite way to race. All your points are valid, I would even add some if I may. - the lack of some vital HUD elements in VR - it adds complexity to the setup, the tracking might turn off, alignment might get screwy etc. But I just can’t go back, I can still race other titles that don’t support VR, but I can never play vanilla Gt7 again, VR almost became a crutch ! 😅

Love VR especially GT 7 with the Fanatec DD wheel, but I had my wife try a race and she immediately got sick.

Awesome video and topic Cas! I agree that of all of the types of media in VR, simulations like racing never get old. I have been racing in VR since 2016 with the Oculus CV1. Of all the racing sims I have, GT7 is visually the most realistic. Another simulation that I spend hours in is Black Hole Pool. If you like shooting pool and don’t have the space, give it a try. As far as the PSVR2 is concerned, I found that putting my headphones on first and the PSVR2 over it alleviates the pressure on my head and the sweet spot stays in place for as long as I have it on. No more adjusting every so often.

Like you I do have to move my rig and make connections for power, usb, buttkicker and PSVR or PCVR. I also have attached a small fan to my rig to keep me cool, no extra step needed to set up😊

Agreed on all points and great to hear others having the same issues. Still trying to resolve the forehead imprints…I have a similar headband from amazon😅. Definitely jump out of my skin when someone taps me on the shoulder while I’m in VR. 😂 That being said, once you do sim racing in VR, you can’t go back to flatscreen.

Nice content bro! I wear one of my "thick" padded paintball headbands under the psvr2. Not going to lie I sweat A LOT by nature, wasn't worried about marks/dents on my forehead but I know sweat in my eyes was going to be an issue from the start. Some paintball headbands are quite padded so also helps it the "pain" factor. Was playing the walking dead game the other day and my cat rubbed himself against my legs, OMG it was intense. Another thing, GT7 VR ruined all the other racing games for me, can't seriously play ACC or F1 anymore.

If you only drive one track in VR. Drive Alsace! The elevation on the track 🔥 My only gripe is the tightness/pressure on my head gets annoying. Inbetween the races I take it off & use the menus in the flatscreen, gives my head intermittent relief. Sticky googly eyes 👀 look great stuck on the front of the head set! Much more friendly looking

Everything you said is pretty accurate 👍🏻 I agree with most of it. The technology has room for improvement in many aspects, but others will probably remain, like removing yourself from everything outside, as that is the main objective of VR. I hope VR gets enough traction over time so it will keep on evolving and doesn't get abandoned like other technologies. For me, performance and image quality can be improved over time with hardware advancements, but design wise it has to become more comfortable. Also, software and support can improve also.

You can set up your PSVR 2 to "bleed" in some amount of sound from your surroundings. I prefer it that way just to be somewhat aware if anything starts happening around me.

I think VR racing is much more comfortable than other VR gaming. For example, RPG VR game which need you walk around, I think the gaps between your body movement and your sight make you sick. But racing game is like you sit in a car and drive, the movement match what you see, it just feel much natural.

Hey Cas. Haven't had any time to play the last couple weeks. Had a friends daughter commit suicide and another one lost his mother. Anyway. I'm so close to getting my Psvr2. After coming 1st in my Country for the GTWS Nations cup I'm finding I'm having withdrawals 😂. Hoping to get back in to it shortly and get my groove back. By the looks you have improved greatly. Welldone.

I've had my psvr2 since release only play gt7 never had motion sickness , on original psvr cudnt play without feeling sick on gt sport

I think every vr player has been freaked out by someone coming in and talking to them at some point.😅 i also think that people new to vr should be aware that the graphics and resolution take a hit compared to flat screen racing.gt7 still looks great in vr and the immersion more than makes up for any loss of graphics fidelity for me.

You made some very valid points.

My wife and kids get me evertime while im playing in my own racing world. You get scared and then have to focus on both racing and the family members trying to communicate with you lol. All valid points about VR, totally agree. With that said its an incredible and addicting experience. I highly recommend the PSVR2 and GT7.

I'm a motion sickness sufferer in real life so of course it can affect me in VR. I don't any mediation (in real life I do if on the sea). I did the short 15 min sessions with a break sick or not routine and keeping cool with light clothing. I can now play most games (not Kayak) for much longer and often just don't feel sick. GT7 - I was obviously worried about this but thought well I drive in real life and am ok. Anyway from the off I only got dizzy if I looked around or tried to look at my tyre wear etc. I decided to just look forward as much as possible and bend with the bends and turn my head etc. This instantly cured me for all tarmac racing although the banner comes up at the end of a race, just concentrating on the words or closing my eyes helped. I can now race for hours and get tired or thirsty before I get sick and can look around check tyres etc without any issue. Dirt tracks do still get me a bit though. I never used to be a race game fan and would get bored very quickly but with VR, I'm in the car and it's amazing. Yeah my quals on the board will show I'm not great but I still love it and at least now can usually gain places in a daily race. Re: the line on your head. I don't get that but then I do wear my headset pretty lose, just tight enough that it doesn't push on my nose area. Regarding the heat, yeah the headset can make you warm but I think it's the immersion and tension of the races that make us hotter. Keep up the good work with you content and look forward to using your ghost for this week's C that's if you're doing C which I suspect you will be. 👍👍

I actually use the headset to play ACC a lot more than GT7 but it’s because I prefer the physics of ACC over GT. Also I can use cinematic mode and don’t have to put my monitor stand in front of my rig anymore now my rig just sits in tucked in the corner.

I use vr for project cars, assetto corsa on pc and vr on ps5 for gt7. Imo It's quite simply the best immersion and best experience on a screen ever. I drive an ftype svr in real life and its not that, but it's closest ever. Nothing like looking at an opponants wheel next to yours on a bend or literally looking over your shoulder to see cars. Incredible. It's almost the same argument between in car cam or behind the car cam, of which I drive on car at all times. You either want immersion, or just racing to win counts. I am immersion all the way. When I drive my real life car, its about immersion and I'm not bothered about beating some other driver. Just me, the car, and some road or track!

I tried PSVR for GT sport a couple years ago. I returned the PSVR the next day. 😆

I have added a comment 3 times, suggesting a certain brand with a extra strap that really helped with the marks and also eldest and partner have small heads and was sitting on there nose and they would hardly use it. It stopped that and now i cant get them off beat saber.

VR COVER no gaps

That was £530 wasted, it’ll sit collecting dust next to my original VR headset. If they changed the racing view then I’d definitely use it again.

If only not that blurry view it produces..id be using that thing 6h a day..
