Ross Childress, their guitarist is pretty incredible. He incorporates both the chunky drop D heavy and blends awesome melodies without a hitch. He also has an impeccable taste in guitars too!
Collective Soul should of kept Ross around, despite personal reasons for his leaving the band after 2002. Hes a good guitar player and excellent performer.
i recorded this on VHS the day it aired. i was blown away by how good Ross was. he completely carries this song even tho it only has 3 chords. he brings it to life. fuckin kick ass.
I don't like your 3 chord synonym. Every hip-hop song on earth has 2 beats and they all sound flat. Give me and my boys 3 chord's and a drummer that doesn't need a double kick and I'll explain to you why I hate everything but rock 😉
Ross Childress is one of those rare musicians whose guitar is an extension of his will. Collective Soul has simply never been the same since he was kicked out. 😕
Well Collective Soul will probably never have both Shane and Ross back in the band , but at least another Georgia favorite: The Black Crowes are now reunited again 😁 ( with brothers Chris Robinson and Rich Robinson only ) hmmm, looks like their original drummer Steve Gorman and guitarists Marc Ford and Bassists Johnny Colt are no longer coming back , how about if Collective Soul's former musicians join the Black Crowes in 2020 ? Chris on lead vocals , Rich on lead guitar, Ross on rhythm guitar, Shane on drums and John Frusicante from the Red Hot Chili Peppers on bass!!! 😍 the NEW BLACK CROWES , but the current Collective Soul in 2020
Yeah and eds life will never be the same because Ross destroyed his marriage, it kinda had to happen tbh. No way in hell would I stay in a band with the guy that had an affair with my wife.
@@dudeman5303 Yeah, there were some pretty strong rumors pointing to that - I don’t think it had ever been officially confirmed (?). If true, there’s no way around how f’d up that is. In any event, that whole mess was really unfortunate… CS hasn’t been nearly as good since then.
Very true. The original line up is what I grew up to in the 90’s. Seemed like the CS sound changed so much once they all kept just Changing and dropping out. I stopped CS collecting albums after 2004.
It's funny because he is wicked technical if you break it down. He does a lot of little stuff that he adds in between that no one notices. He adds random rakes and harmonics.
Random Rants of Ryan doubt Ross will ever rejoin unless something happens between him and ed's ex wife. Which I don't see happening. If Joel and shave could rejoin I'd like to see that honestly.
As others have commented, Ross was such a big part of the Collective Soul magic. He always came up with interesting fills/riffs/solos, and was a captivating presence on stage. I would love to see Ed forgive him and bring him back into the fold. There's more music to be made
Collective Soul wrote a song called Forgiveness :) hahaha, why doesnt Ed Roland practice what he preaches in his music?? Forgive the guitar player who fucked your EX WIFE , keep in mind
@DazedWithJohnny Exactly. What an asshole. He made Ed go through so much unnecessary pain. And he caused strain on Ed's baby Lindsey, who had divorced parents at the age of 3 already. So unfair
@@kane703 I mean he was good at spicing the music up, if you look at what Ross has done since getting kicked out he has NOT done very well. He can't write catchy songs to save his life, he's great if someone else writes the songs and he can just add some nice textures and hooks but he really isn't capable of doing it himself. Ed is definitely the superior songwriter by FAR. It was nice getting the both of them on a single track I won't deny that, their albums were great and I won't lie I'm not a big fan of their music past a certain period but they still get by unlike Ross.
Being a band mate in mojomoji with ROSSand SHANE I. Can say this. They are both the sweetest guys you will ever meet. Humble. Down to earth. Have a lot of love and appreciation for thier fans. I consider them great friends aside of playing music with them. I do hope as a fan also that our project could lead COLLECTIVE SOUL to a reunion with ROSS and SHANE. Life is too short to hold grudges. Let love ❤️ rule!!!!!
It's not a rumor. Ross ended up married to Ed's ex wife for a brief minute. There is a video of Ed going off on a fan who was saying they wanted Ross back and he said that he broke up his family and if he wanted to see Ross go watch him to karaoke
This must have been recorded not long before Ross left the group in 2001, under whatever circumstances. Enjoyed the guitar parts that he brought to the CS sound. He could bring it live and made it look almost effortless.
Little known fact: before this performance, someone backstage stole the shirt sleeves of two of the band members. They weren't sure if they should still play, but Leno convinced them that the show must go on and so they performed sans-sleeves.
Daniel Hartin this was in October 2000 right when Blender was released. I saw them that month in Ottawa, Canada. Ross left the band around August or September 2001.
Shame about what happened between Ed and Ross, but their sound was with Ross and left with him, he was unique to this band, Ed's little brother isn't even playing the guitar here.
In the 80's we were Tastee Freeze guys in Stockbridge, Ga. Awesome to see this video. They still rock and they still have a great guitar player named Jesse Triplett. Check them out if you ever get the chance.

The broadcasting seems was in stereo surround or something... this happens sometimes in SNL live shows
The reason why rock is not faring well these days is because of today's youth love of crappy contrived bands. One Direction being one of many that use auto tune! Google "one direction uses autotune" that will put things into perspective for those who doubt. -digest
