I used R-hop for a very long time and I use it on almost every build but there are situations when it's not optimal to use it. Long story short, if your nozzle moves forward too fast (DSG with cut tappet plate, some HPA engine with pressure operated nozzles etc.) you would want some degree of hop pressure so the bb can always be chambered to the same depth and not roll past it.
With a steady hopup arm and nub, traditional bucking can be fairly consistent, so don't be afraid to switch back to just a normal bucking if you're using r-hop and is having vertical hop inconsistencies.
