I understand, but this is a revealed preference vs hidden preferences problem. People say this but their buying and usage activity is mostly centered around content consumption. This is true for rich people as well as your security guard -- just open his screen time usage once.

This type of tech is only appealing to specific individuals only. Smartphones are never going to be replaced bruh like the tasks which we can do with the Smartphone this tech can only do a fraction of it. We dont use our smartphones just to search something in google we use it to click photos make videos, transfer money, pay our bills, book our tickets, watch movies or series, watch news, read articles and many more. To say this tech is very appealing and will replace smartphones is stupidity.

I summarise this video using AI 😅 Have a look 👀 * Rabbit R1 is a $199 device with a speaker, screen, mic, and AI assistant, making it much cheaper than a phone. * Its main selling point is its large language model, which can be used to control apps, book cabs, and more. It also has a training mode that lets users teach it new skills. * The author is critical of Rabbit R1, arguing that people's addiction to phone content makes the device less useful. They also believe that Android and iOS will soon have similar AI features, making Rabbit R1 less competitive. * However, the author acknowledges the potential for Rabbit R1's success due to the hype surrounding it and its sleek design. They're also optimistic about the team behind it and their ability to create great products in the future. * Overall, the video takes a skeptical yet open-minded stance on Rabbit R1's potential for success. I hope this summary is helpful!

The largest misconception is that people believe this is supposed to be a phone/phone replacement. They *literally* said in the keynote that it's not that, yet everyone keeps acting like it's supposed to replace it. It's another device, separate, and supposed to be used in tandem with your phone. I, for one, am very excited to use it and see how it performs. If it sucks, then I have a really cool vanity item lol.

No one is going to want to carry this and a smartphone around. I wouldn't even want to carry it around without a phone. It bulky, and an awkard shape for a pocket meaning you'd have to store it elsewhere. Having to store it in a bag would make it more inconvienient to use than just pulling out your phone from your pocket. I respect your decision to buy it, but I don't think it was a good decision lol.
@Epin-Ephrine

@@DimeDCSGO I get that, and have spoken to my coworker about the same thing. Usually I wouldn't buy something under those conditions, but then I realized that I'm not really interested in using it outside my house. I kinda view this as I do with my VR Headset; I bought it because it's a cool piece of innovation/tech that I knew I wouldn't use all that much, but would allow me to use in unique ways. Albeit, I think it'll still be that "cool vanity item" at the end of the day, but that doesn't bother me too much. The device itself reminds me of those wacky cool early 2000's attempts at tech innovation that I've been missing for years now, so that's pretty much enough reason to snag one lol.

After LLM (Large Language Model), we now have LAM (Large Action Model). Imagine what's next - LEM (Large Emotions Model), LSM (Large Sense Model), and more? If they remove "L" (large) to complete the modal, does another word attach, like CLM (Complete Language Model) or OLM (Omni Language Model), or maybe just LM (Language Model)? After every type of modal gets completed, we might achieve Artificial Super Intelligence. Consider contemplating more types of AI modals. LAM is good, but if they develop it as an app or extension for smartphones, it could be more useful than making it a completely separate device. Additionally, introducing a premium subscription for the smartphone extension would likely enhance sales without complaints, Similar to Microsoft's approach with Copilot. focusing on selling it as an upgrade rather than a new smartphone competitor seems more strategic.

The only reason this device has garnered so much hype is because it's a standalone device. Sometimes it become hard to pull out your phone and book a uber or hotel on it or to show you directions on your phone cause you have to go to the specific applications and do all the stuffs, you know it. So rabbit r1 i think would become much comfy in some situations i guess as you just have to speak in it..
@sarthwahb
@sarthwahb 8 месяцев назад
I totally agree with you on the point of smartphone as being not a utility item but a vehicle to consume content, (like a drug)... I have a different way of looking at it, right now there are apps on smartphones which are revolutionary, that are 1) Facebook, 2) insta 3) Whatssap 4) Snapchat, and ect. But one upcoming revolutionary app i suppose is the "character ai" it has potential to move the market like Facebook did because as we are social animals, the character ai smudges the gap between real life text conversation to ai character text conversation.. same thing with open ai's Dall e or chargpt image generation, it is as revolutionary as the Instagram feed just it's in the starting stage. If Rabbit R1 manages to become the vehicle to consume ai made content and text (conversation) like the movie "her" then it's going to blow the market, correct marketing and value strategy, and UI is a deadly combination for making people once hooked and always chained to the R1, i understand it's a starting stage of the hardware and LAM, but we shouldn't underestimate the power of social AI and human Psyche

Well the ultimate idea of a smartphones is Compactness. Companies and Tech giants were constantly thriving to make smartphones powerful with the software as well as hardware as majority would look for compact, handy devices. A person whose work is more of physical and time stamped, he would choose smartphone over any device even if it is a quantum computer. These LAMs or any other product would become part of collection for a few individuals who want to showcase in their circle or peer group. But not really gonna use this to its full potential.

Why are people saying that the R1 is trying to replace the phone? The CEO said it himself during the keynote. They aren't pushing to replace your phone, but rather it is a companion device that is ready for LAM voice commands with a click of a button. There's no opening an app to do it, it's just ready! Alao i think the biggest selling point for most people is the learning feature. During the keynote we could see there was Web, Desktop, and Mobile options, meaning that you can teach it how to do various tasks by recording your actions on any one of these platforms. Not only can it repeat what you taught it, it also gains the context of the task to do more with it. Its like teaching a person to make a website and then it can create other websites based on what you taught it. It learns and understands what you want it to do. Thats the main selling pount for me.
@KnightTrader7
@KnightTrader7 8 месяцев назад
The problem is most people do not care about another companion device unless it comes from an ecosystem where there is social value to buying an additional device. Like for example buying a smart watch. A lot of people buy it for the aesthetic aspect of it or the social status it gives. Like all the people who buy iPhones just to say they own an apple. Other than that, most people do not care about an additional device. So the R1 has a very small usecase. Doesn't mean they can't make money but Apple will make them absolete once they release AI on the iPhone
@DerpyNoodIe
@DerpyNoodIe 8 месяцев назад
@@KnightTrader7 I do agree that the R1 device will only appeal to a smaller demographic. When it comes to Apple, I believe their LLM (LAM) will be able to do most of what the Rabbit R1 can do; primarily focusing on services like social apps, food delivery, and control over your iPhone with voice commands. I'm also sure they will even allow users to use LAM functionality between your Apple devices for a more seamless and connected experience within the Apple ecosystem. But I feel that it is unlikely that it will be as open as the learning functionality that the Rabbit R1 aims to achieve because Apple is known for their closed ecosystem. With that being said, you are right, most people won't care about that because it is a feature that most likely appeals to the developer and modding community. I feel what will keep the R1 device alive are probably those communities.
@KnightTrader7
@KnightTrader7 8 месяцев назад
@@DerpyNoodIe You bring up a good point about Apple's tendencies to have a closed ecosystem. I also agree that the developer community would probably like this device a lot, even if it's just to have it, like a cool gadget. Ignoring the "reducing screen time" part, the one thing I like about the rabbit r1 is the efficiency I do think that the way we use our smartphones is very inefficient, training the ai to do our repetitive tasks like playing music or booking a cab would save a lot of time But we also need to consider that traditional voice assistants also had these capabilities but people never use them due to the privacy factor - people don't want to let everyone know about what they do on their phones

I am learning every day about the marketing and hyping of products on crowdfunding and CES kind of exhibition platforms. This could be a same case of R1 and it may just disappear as hardware but the company is rolling(kickstarered) now and to entertain consumers they had to show something which is piece of a physical product which gives that feeling of owning it. This kind of surge gives a direction to chase something which can sell your products than definitely tech giants will chase it may be buyout Rabbit and shelf R1 to use their tech for improving current offerings it is a common practice.

I agree with you, Varun Mayya. The Rabbit R1, like its peer Humane AI, is better suited as a software company than a niche hardware company. Rabbit has stated that they are not a smartphone replacement, and in doing so, they are shooting themselves in the foot. Why would I want to have an extra device on me when my phone can do the exact same thing? Once all the big hitters like Apple, Google, and Samsung implement Large Action Model (LAM) onto their devices, having a separate device like Rabbit R1 becomes redundant. I pre-ordered this thing for my kid and super exited about my child having a gadget to ask it dumb questions or learn something useful, set up an alarm and reminder for a task, send me text messages just by saying it and calling me on whatsapp and all of it with no video games and youtube! It's like my dream came true of a perfect gadget.

Rabbit R1 was presented and is advertised as an AI assistant or (as the website states) a "pocket companion". It was highlighted in the presentation that the aim is NOT to replace the phones. For some reason you say/quote "a lot of people keep saying that this is a 199$ replacement for the phone (...) They are wrong!", followed by the whole justification. The people were wrong to begin with. The valid argument is that the solutions it gives will be implemented in phones, watches (how much more convenient is that) before we know it. Whether it succeeds or fails, depends solely on how much better they (the Rabbit) are and how much they can outsmart the competition with the new software solutions and innovations for this gadget. Personally, I will keep my fingers crossed for the people behind the project and I am looking forward to seeing how it develops. I am also curious how the company develops and builds on those sold out Rabbit R1's with the next gen projects. Whatever it might be.

Then why raise the bar of entry so high to $199 when it could have been a $5-10 dollar app? It's essential a dumbed down phone in a orange plastic box you yell at to complete basic tasks.
@rad3627
@rad3627 8 месяцев назад
@Gigachad-hb7ji Because the successful launch of the device gives them platform, budget and recognition for further projects which an app doesn't. The device leaves room for improvement, development and pays no attention to Android's and iOS's terms and conditions, which gives Rabbit a huge potential. It also leaves time and resources to work on their product rather than dedicating workforce to catch up with Android and iOS updates and compatibility issues. We'll see when R1 is delivered.

Thanks Varun for your analysis. Frankly ..your analysis is very similar to most of the other reviews on RU-vid. But here's why I think, R1 Rabbit can be a game changer. 2 of their USPs I feel very strongly about is that, unlike phones it's primarily voice activated v/s touch operation and secondly it's LAM focused. Most of the Voice assistants including Siri or Alexa are borderline dumb and don't understand so many simple instructions (Google does slightly better). So if R1 is better than these three, I can use R1 for simple searches I do throughout the day. Secondly and most importantly LAM. This is what sets this device apart. If it works as they claim it would, I can link it to so many apps and get it to do daily mudane tasks that uses applications. Finally...I personally think this has far more use in a professional setting from transcribing a meeting (Google does a bad job at that) to asking for an excel formula to providing me a quick tip or idea (that might need polishing) on a question or situation I might land in. I don't think it would be right to think that this device will completely replace a phone. And... hey..if you are someone like me (who wants to stay away from the phone & doesn't reinstall SM Apps after uninstalling..lol), you might find more uses for this device. With that said....let's say it never works as I intend it to, I can atleast be happy about being part of something that has huge potential for $200😀. I wasn't too excited about Humane AI, but R1 , I am. So we'll see, I guess.

The only action they took was granting AI the ability to independently click a few buttons and execute tasks based on input. They did not create any new technology or achieve any breakthroughs. The moment I observed that response, I anticipated it would hallucinate my requests, similar to chat GPT, and potentially make hotel reservations without Wi-Fi, despite my explicit preference for accommodations with Wi-Fi (you get the idea). Fun Fact: OpenAI's ChatGPT consumes 500 ml of water for every 5 to 50 prompts it answers

The main use case for the product is not to cut down on cosumimg content, its meant to serve as an AI assistant to streamline your day without the use of menial clicks on your smartphone apps. Why spend 5 minutes on an app for each task if you can program your assistant to do it all in one voice command?

@@VarunMayya True. It's just probably a less distracting version in that case. Your phone can stay in your bag through most of your day. Besides, I personally like the idea of a new novelty device to carry around. You never know, it can soon catch up by the time of R3 or R4 when more essential features like calling are added in. Like how people use a study room just for work, the Rabbit can become your daily driver and your smartphone becomes a Ferrari you need to whip out only when you really feel like or have the need for it.

I think that the effectiveness of the device depends on what you want it to be. This will not replace a smartphone, there are just too many games and apps that require much more visual interaction. However, if you viewed this as a separate device that you'd carry with your phone, it would be great for achieving more complicated tasks faster (making bookings, finding out information, etc). The R1 should be used as a tool for efficiency and simplicity, but not for entertainment.

Name one other gadget that you carry in your pocket other than a smartphone ? Changing the consumer behavior to make them carry 2 separate devices is impossible. Especially when one of those devices can do everything that the other device does, with much more superior hardware. Basically, everything that R1 does can just be done within a Paid App distributed on the App Store which is what eventually will happen. Either that, or all of this functionality will be added to Siri/GAssisstant

When I saw that official video, 2 things came in my mind that is like because of the LAM we can execute an action by just clicking on confirm so to confirm what will be the passcode (how security, authentication will work)? like in existing apps you need to enter the mpin or otp, second thing is that how the UPI system will work? it's not that tough for the them but if they need to enter in India, UPI integration will be the first thing they need to focus on. I agree that existing smartphone companies can integrate LAM but one thing we need to consider that concept behind R1 is to minimize distractions of apps by implementing LAM and that is the USP of the product. Existing smartphone companies and app business focuses and invests more on how the user can spend maximum time on their apps so even if they implement LAM they won't think on to minimize distractions. One more thing, let's take an example of light phone 2, they just minimize the distractions with basic 3 or 4 apps but eventually that phone won't work in India or other country much with the lack of utilities such as payment or email. According to me Rabbit team focused on the right thing and the whole world really need to think ahead of apps which consumes your productive time, if I have a device which can take an action on my voice command and doesn't consume much time. I would love to have it.

Shortmindet, you can teach him software and improve working time and so on. It has nothing to do with a smartphone just because it’s nearly the same size. You could show him „how to learn ..(programs)..“ and he will do tasks for you on the base what he learned. You possibly could ssh into systems and so on

Many people thought smart watches were a bad idea, and I still remember people saying "why would I watch videos on my watch?". Now everyone makes them, and they've even expanded into new markets and use-cases. Think health monitoring and emergency services. I don't see this being a phone replacement, instead I see it as the tool you use to get things done while making the smartphone becomes closer to 100% for just consuming content. However, what I feel is more likely, is that a large company will buy the the tech behind this device to integrate the LAM into their own existing products. Companies are already creating the hardware and software needed to bring AI to mobile devices, and the company that owns LAM will be ahead of the game. Now of course this is under the assumption that there are protections on the ideas and software behind how LAM functions. Otherwise, if not, expect every device to be capable of doing this in the next year or two.

This is exactly what I thought after I saw the product. How would people consume content on this device. People use smartphones for things like using social media, learning something on youtube, playing games, shooting and editing videos and much more. Now all of these use cases revolve around either creating or consuming content. I am pretty sure the day when such a device would replace a smatphone is a little far. People will buy this because it is a cool $200 gadget, but they will always rely on a phone to consume or create content. By people I mean majority of the people. LAMs are great, if Rabbit comes out with an app I'll be more than happy to subscribe to that and have my phone at the same time. Its like paying some extra money to get a virtual assistant which can save your time by doing random chores. But having this as an app would completely defeat Rabbit's purpose of an app-free Operating System. I love the concept though, very interesting product.

I love you for making this video i swear. Its crazy they made a device that's between the humane AI Pin and a smartphone. I think it wont be able to do either. Plus just an app installed on a phone can do the same task as the rabbit for even less than 200 dollars. Ofc if it becomes iconic the way iPhone became in the day then it could work. They are also boasting an operating system that an LAM, but how can they be sooo confident its going to work universally for all websites or applications? My guess it would only be able to access websites that has their API's ready to be used. I think people would buy this they way we starting buying smartwatches. We dont need them to be smart and most of the time i see people dont even use the "smart" features. Buying this product for the sake of being productive would be mental masturbation too
