Afrobeats is the Nigerian sound, so highlife and more. So the thing is a lot of afrobeats sounds now are mixed with amapiano you can’t tell the difference so I agree with him that afrobeats has changed a bit. But also just like every artist has something unique to them so does Rema. Imagine listening to the same sound from the same artist in the same genre nothing unique 😅 na not the vibe.
This! This is why I subscribed to this channel: your ability to break down the seemingly chaotic music industry into simple analogies and explanations, using intelligence and deep reasoning. Nice work, man. I hope you keep doing more of these. The gossip videos not related to music can be distracting at times.
That sound you hear from Rema may be Indian-like but its very much west African, that style of singing, those notes and chord progressions are very prominet in music from Mali. As africans, we've grown up listening to music from great Malian musicians even Hollywood has been inspired by Malian music for their soundtracks. Rema is tapping into those influences.
The great thing about Rhema is that he doesn't care so much if the big 3 or anyone else agree to come with him. Dude loves music for the sake of music and he is willing to place his career on the line to "experiment" with a sound. He did it with calm down, Dumebi etc... those sounds ain't traditional afro-beatz... This is what makes him unique. It takes only a person like Rhema to do a song like "Ozeba" and that's a huge risk... Songs like that'll make fans question your sanity. This can make or break your career and he knows, but he does it anyway!
Are you a gen z? Drums and sax has been used. You do know that there is such a thing as afrobeat in the Grammys bcos of Wizkid and burnaboy’s afrobeat songs
@@ladytamara1503 Stop right there, Afrobeat as a category wasn't established solely because of 2 artistes. Burna and Wiz were only the biggest exports at the time, they were the faces of afrobeats, doesn't mean they we're the sole cause. Afrobeat as a category was only established because of its increase in demand and the Grammy organisers discovered a rapid growth in the genre. I can clearly say that Wizkid got his Grammy from a feature so how's he to be celebrated?
@@Vexed4Long you said because of the increase in demand, and you’re absolutely right. But you’re refusing to see acknowledge the people were creating afrobeat music to be so enticing enough for the world to ask for more. Those people my dear are the Felas, wizkids, olamides, Davidos, etc. even burna boy is somewhat recent. I’m not a gen z, I’m a complete millinial. Born 91, I saw the move from the 2faces to Dbanjs, to the Likes of Wizkids. We know the people who started getting the BET awards, etc bringing the new afrobeats to the world. Rema is just building on that. I’m sure even he is fully aware of that.
How do I like this video more than once. Afrobeat is not just one beat. It's a combination of the origin of who is singing it, the style, the drum and creativity. Does the fact that Asake sang Amapiano titled song makes it Amapiano? Of course no! You can't lock us in a one way of druming.
Can't believe people are not picking up the elements of Kwassa mixed with the old and new afrobeat sounds. This album is a masterpiece, a classic to be for sure.
u said it right but thr wrong part is that the big 3 needs to step up cuz they are not giving us wat rema is giving us - so i guess we only have a big one now - cuz u cant b big 3 if u cant match d styles the people want - no?

It’s true this new rema era he’s tryna do is not his style from the smoking cigarette to acting mysterious all these dark aesthetic nd I’m a big rema fan btw but that’s just the truth 😂
@@saint_r3x you don’t even know me 😂 I can give you my socials rn and you’ll be able to tell I’m clearly a music person Ik what rema is doing he’s being versatile if u even kno what that means but the aesthetic doesn’t suit him cuz he came in the game as this nice smooth lover boy to now smoking cigarettes and everyone changes and Afro beat did need a change so either way he’s still the big 4 cuz he’s different so stfu
@@benematundu1580 Sighhhhh. I understand your predicament. There's nothing like it doesn't fit him. You don't know him on a personal level. Celebrities always change their personas it's only normal. Everything he's doing is normal and you're just a fan who wants him to sing his old songs. You talk like him creating a persona is wrong when it isn't. You're just to blind to see.
@@saint_r3x what I never said it’s wrong it’s actually smart and he’s one of the smartest Afro beat artists in the game rn I never said it’s wrong but the aesthetic doesn’t suit him that’s why ppl are hating cuz he came In the industry with songs like DUMEBI , calm down , soundgasm and brought a teddy bear everywhere with him on stage now he’s smoking cigarettes that’s why people are hating and like I said you don’t know me cuz if you did then you’d know I prefer this era of him especially his RAVAGE era so plz don’t act like u know me when u don’t 😂
@@benematundu1580 okay 👍🏽 It's the way you said it doesn't fit him. I don't think we're allowed to say anything like that. You are the same person saying I don't know you. Rema could also say the same. So how would you know if it fits him or not? You had me confused tho.
I think remas idea is that he doesn't want the Afrobeats watered down for the rest of the world to easily copy . So it means to push the ideology the BIg 3 have to be one with him on this one
@emotionkontrolla The foundation is rearly explored, you and your guy need to be more informed = we have old cultural Nigerian sounds yet to be well infused.
Çalm down. Davido will not take it personally like you. They listen constructive criticism if you don't know. Davido would like to know how to adapt to stay relevant.
I don't know about changing Afrobeats but i think Rema has at least opened up the gates to alternative Nigerian acts, I'm not talking Alté, i mean pluggnb, new jazz, rock... literally anything. If Afrobeats doesn't change at least we're going to start seeing lots of upcoming artists trying something new
