Ren and Sam Tompkins, blind eyed or latch!❤ My thoughts are still with Sam right now because of what recently happened to his father 😔 Sam is great too!
REN and The Big Push singing Icarus, Precious and Swan Song , three of their original tracks that are three different genres and all 🔥🔥🔥. Please react to these gems that no other reactors seem to react to, as in my opinion you and your channel is the GOAT, Knox.
Ren became my favorite very quickly after I actually started listening to his music and watching his interviews! He is one of the most giving, thoughtful, and hard working artist that i have ever come across. He is very special and so beyond talented! The whole money games !❤ He inspired me to do a small act of kindness the other day and I ended up leaving money near the sink in each bathroom at work with an anonymous note saying " Hoping to brighten someone's day!hope this inspires you to do the same! Take it!" I want to be more thoughtful now.He is quite an influence! PS This absolutely would be great as an acoustic Ren!!❤And Knox, DEFINITELY Ren and Sam Tompkins!!❤ blind eyed or latch!!
@@jeanhiebert3425 absolutely! I try to be an optimistic person because who really wants to be miserable? And there is always a chance even small words of kindness can effect someone. We just actually need to put thought into it.
I found Ren in January. I immediately connected with his music and dove into the catalog. But his engagement with his fans and the community he builds is next level and beautiful. Im a fan of his music but i have so much respect and affection for him ad a human being. He's a real one in all that he does.
Ren isn't just a literal Bard, he's one of the best musical mimics since Freddie Mercury. Someone who can just listen to other genre's and tempos and schemes and says: "I can do that, I can make that better." Look at ALL the genres Freddie mastered from country to opera, and Ren is on the same musical genius wavelength.
Freddie Mercury? Really? That’s a little extreme 🙄 Ren does not have Freddie’s generational voice. He’s a solid rapper - but one of the best in the genre of hip hop? Not even close. He’s much better when he’s singing and in the more reflective/melodic lane. I’m sure Ren superfans will burn me for this but I’m a non-bias outsider who doesn’t drink the kool-aid. Is he a great artist? 100% But Freddie Mercury level. No. Sorry.
@@mikebecker504Respectfully, I didn't get the sense that he was saying Ren is as good vocally as Freddy Mercury. I think he was saying that Ren has a Freddy like ability to go into other musical genres and blend them and make something different and has showmanship. I think in your desire to show us how umuch you aren't a Ren worshipper you read into his comment intent that was not there. Have a good weekend. :)
especially with my statement here, I don't understand any hostility as a rebuttal. It's obvious I'm a Mercury fan...and hold him as the standard to compare. What is the malfunction here exactly? No one is allowed ever, to even be compared in their fundamental abilities when they started as musicians? Well, that's insane. but, I hope you have a great day!
@@TheNeonNinjaWhy so upset by a simple statement? You said he’s one of the best since Freddie Mercury. I disagree. Example being his raps. Nowhere near the level of the top artists in hip hop doing it like a Kendrick Lamar or a J. Cole. Does he make good songs? Absolutely. Is he the best in whatever genre he tries to mimic? No, sorry. Just a really talented, good artist. But so many people make him out to be this musical genius that I just do not think he is.
This year, for me, has been truly fucking awful; except for one thing, and that is finding Ren. Hit me so, so hard. And it doesn't stop, and I don't want it to. I am a better woman for finding Ren's art ❤
Keep pushing forward my dear! Don’t know what you’ve been through, just know that you are beautiful, loved and worth it! Hoping the new year brings many great things! Take care!❤
I believe thats what has motivated Ren to keep going. To realize your art can have such an impact on people some of whom are literally hanging on by a thread. There aren't many humans that cant relate in some way to struggling through what seems like a hell specifically designed for us. Ren shows us that the hell we struggle through really does make us better people. Stay positive a new year is right around the corner and I bet it will be much better for you!!
So glad to see Ren really blow up. The time was just right. And absolutely, Blind Eyed by Ren and Sam Tomkins is fabulous. It would be a great one to react to. Great reaction, as always.
Ren's success is down to talent and hard work, refusing to give up even when things were going against him, he has an incredible drive to succeed. He comes across as an authentic, caring character with a great sense of humour and has a magnetic stage presence. He has a great team of talented friends around him, relationships that he has nurtured for years and is very social media savvy.
You're spot on! we all know he's a creative genius, but he's also extremely hard working and that is a major factor in his current success. For example I think sometimes people like to celebrate his one-takes without realising that he does them over and over again until he's happy with the result.
Totally agree. Good that you mentioned his friends too, cause the videos are amazing and without his friends they probably wouldn't exist. At least not as an independent artist. Also, he is honest and true to himself. Which after auto tune crap (but sound and content), I believe people appreciate.
Ren became my favourite artist because of his creative ability and his unique style he can sing rap play any instrument which blows me away of how talented he really is
A life time working on your talent, working on yourself, educating your mind, making sure you have a good understanding of how the world works and having the vocabulary to be able to spread that message. Stay true to yourself, be humble, kind, and willing to bear your inner soul then send it out into the ether risking the possibility of ridicule! Then and only then might you have a slim chance of reaching the genius level that is Ren.
This was great. Yes! Definitely do Ren and Sam Tompkins Blind Eyed. he did a fantastic job of taking how something feels and putting it into music and lyrics that make the viewer feel it too.
For me ... Talent, bravery, truth, connection and the drive to effect change. Big fan of you both, thanks for all you do. (I've been deep diving all your Eminem vids recently and like our man Ren said himself - "Knox is a surgeon with his analyses !")
0:30 Speaking of 'The Streets'. I'd love to see you do some breakdowns of their stuff. You definitely need to check out 'Ren and Sam Tompkins - Blind Eyed | M.C Sessions'. As with a few of Rens songs I think this live version is even better. Plus Sams voice is just crazy with that falsetto. Also 'Sam Tompkins - Time Will Fly' is a great track too.
Ren's singular story is striking in itself, but it has also shaped the man and the artist. The exuberant energy of youth, together with the insight and maturity of an artist who has experienced more challenges than most people encounter in a lifetime, gives him an creative voice that is truly original, authentic and compelling. He is obviously a very talented musicianship who has had the opportunity to practise his craft more than most; but it is his song-writing that really puts him in a league of his own. He has also internalised a rich palette of influences not only musical, but literary as well - this is a man has read widely, and acquired an astonishing vocabulary that he manages to use without sounding pretentious or contrived. He has a very poetic imagination: the first time I heard 'Hi Ren', I thought of Shakespeare, and the validity of the comparison only increased as I heard more of his songs. He is a very remarkable artist.
Not to a friend, he says "Die, die, diazepam"... but yeah For Ren and Sam: Oh, yeah! Please? Their first one which went viral immediately was "Blind eyed", but also please consider doing What went wrong (there are 2 parts released, 1st is the MV, and second is just an audio)
I've been hooked on Ren since I saw Elizabeth did a reaction/analysis on The Charismatic Voice. Wish I had found him earlier, but I'm glad I did, at least. He is such a rare talent, raw and sincere. Great singer, and an amazing lyricist. Knox Hill and The Charismatic Voice, btw, are my 2 favorite reactors/analyzers on the tubes and are good contributors to spreading Ren to the world, together with Black Pegasus.
Ren is incredible and it's so cool that y'all got to connect on money game 3. I wish I could have been involved in that production. As a full time maker who studies human experience and expression, I feel like we'd have all gotten along fantastically. Bunch of good dudes doing great things. The #RENaissance is now!
Hi Knox, love it that you and Ren have become friends as you get his music and do great reactions, by the way as you mentioned you had chalk outlines stuck in your head didn't you notice the floating white outlines in the song, I've always wondered if he's linked these two songs, what do you think, love your new song, ❤ from UK
Ren is the most talented artist I've had the pleasure of discovering. If I have ANY purpose in this life, it's the discovery of new music. And I've been hooked for over a year (not soon enough). Much love to you, Ren, and Knox for the tremendous support. REN-egades for life! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I agree with your analysis. I also think a factor that a lot of people miss is the amount of work that goes into all of this - he just makes it look easy. The man still practices guitar and piano. He is always working (not even going into all of the admin and promo tasks he's been doing himself all of these years) and has built up a huge catalog with something for almost everyone. What I'm getting at is that when the 'luck' of Hi Ren going viral happened, he was prepared. His writing and performing skills were sharpened and ready to go so he was able pounce on the opportunity when it arose. I take that as a big lesson. You need to be ready so that when an opportunity presents itself, you can seize it. Love you Knox - and the new song as well.
This is one of my tops of Ren. And the sounds do make you feel as if on Diazepam. " Self destructive healing is one and the same" how profound and true. And Yes Shou do some Ren & Sam.cant go wrong with any you choose. Dont miss "what went wrong" great message as always
Ren became famous because he’s a great artist; his level of skillz is higher. His music is literally better than most other people’s. He’s like Top 10 MC level debate, skill level. Most independent artists are like regular dragon ball characters, but Ren is one of the Saiyans.
Top Ten MC? 🙄 How. He’s nowhere near a J Cole, a JID, an Aesop Rock, a Kendrick, a Token or even Knox himself. I’ve yet to be floored by wordplay from this man and a number of his faster songs I just heard lyrical miracle fillers. He lacks that hip hop substance IMO. It’s dope when he dives into the world of rap but to put him on a top MCs list?? Don’t be silly
@@mikebecker504Wordplay is less important than lyricism. That’s why 2pac is a GOAT and Aesop Rock is an over intellectualized asshole that rubes who want to feel smart like.
Ren and Sam Tompkins?!?! Yes please! Blind Eyed - the MC Sessions is my favorite version but the one ft Angry Car Park Attendant is great to show the tenacity of Ren! What Went Wrong parts 1 and 2! Them Busking together is great too. Also, Ren and Chinchilla Busking is amazing. And Chinchilla just dropped the music video for Cut You Off this past week and she was on The Voice UK! ❤
I think reaction channels reacting to Hi Ren helped tremendously, that's how the majority of us came to know him. Then, of course, his incredible talent.
"Started with", are you saying Knox is on Diazepam? Else, I do not understand your "started with". Your grandson knows what he is hearing, and reacts - what a wonderful quality for a 2yr old :)
62 year old bloke losing interest in music, and moreover, faith in humanity. In one foul swoop Ren has restored both...he tells the true story of what it is to be human in 2023. It's stark, honest, raw but above all , beautiful. and he should be cherished. Peace and love.
I love this song. I say this about a lot of his songs, but there is something about the guitar and his voice that hits just right. So glad to see you reacting to some of his older tracks ❤
Well said, not just about the song, but about the entire journey. There was so much to discover after that first moment of attention. That kept us busy and the momentum going while the new stuff for the album hit. It is also that we have become a community here in the comments. We recognize each other in strange places and we are building something special. And it is not blind adoration of the worshipped Ren (though I stand by that this is my first cult), but the way we reach out to other good things and people, amongst ourselves, and in enjoying artists like you and Dirt and so many more. It is a way of making music and listening to each other, often from very different sides of the spectrum. Now I am off to support Chinchilla on the Voice. You HAVE to check out her new video to Cut me off.
For those who don´t know Diazepam is Valium (in the 60ties called ="Mother´s little helper"..there is a 60ties song from the Rolling Stones about it)..an opiate/benzodiazepine...basically Diazipam/Valium is in his chemical composition almost identical with heroine only 1 or 2 molecules are different. But to come off from that drug is way harder than from heroine...and to become addicted/physically dependent happens way faster than heroine Ren´s description about Diazepam is extremly accurate and the vibe of the music and the sounds he uses for describing "the feeling/vibe you´ll get while being on Diazipam" is extremely accurate as well...very cosy and concurrently as if you are infolded in a thick eiderdown quilt = when he sings/calls it "makes you also numb" Usually prescibted when suffering from massive pain, or massive anxiety or during drug treatment as opiate substitute
Diazepam is a benzo and not an opiate. It is used to stave off alcohol withdrawal because it has a similar effect on the brain. It has limited use for opiate addiction and is not used as an opiate substitute, certainly not in the UK. It may be prescribed short term i.e. 7-10 days after an opiate user has stopped taking their opiate substitute. It is very addictive and very difficult to detox from and was widely prescribed in the 60s and 70s.
I'm so thankful you introduced me to Ren. This man has so much talent in every lane he touches. I'd love to see many collaborations with you two when life let's that happen. His singing voice is unique on its own and his flow like yours is original. I'm thankful I've found him through you. And how cool you both hit 1 mil together pretty much. Hopefully 100 million for you both sooner than later, much deserved.
The relationship and respect you have for Ren is beautiful to see. I’m not the least bit musically minded ( but I do know what I like), so your breakdowns are fascinating to me. I am discovering your work as well, through your reactions. I stumbled across Ren earlier this year and I honestly can’t imagine not hearing him each day. He has managed to tap into the zeitgeist, of the individual, the community and globally. He has the ability to draw you in to the story, lyrically, visually and musically, then send out these little word daggers straight to the heart. Then the message is delivered like a punch to the gut. He can evoke such emotion and feeling from every note, every word, every facial expression. His words in context with his own situation makes them even more poignant and achingly beautiful. I hope his success and continuing popularity doesn’t put too much pressure on him and change how he writes. I hope he keeps his raw honesty, vulnerability and genuine empathy. It’s part of why he is so loved by us all.
Yes!!! Ren and Sam Tompkins- Blind Eyed (M.C Crowns live session) is unbelievable! Maybe a combo reaction with the original music video followed by the live version that elevates the song multiple levels higher!!!
What I like most about Ren is the fact that when he drops, you never EVER know what your gonna get, eventhough is all fire! You can really put him in any 1 type of music.
Please react to 3 REN and the Big Push tracks that are never reacted to, Icarus, Precious and Swan Song, three different genres that are all 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Thanks Knox for all your great reactions, GOAT channel.
Great breakdown as always @KnoxHill! Some of my other favorites from the Freckled Angels album are Penitence and Insomnia. I highly recommend REN and Sam “Blind Eyed” , MC Sessions or Angry Car Park Attendant!!❤😊
Knox - I love how you got that 'Original Pirate Material ' reference, I can't say for definite that it was intentional but it's *exactly* what I thought when I saw it. Also I'm super impressed that you even *know* about Mike Skinner! That album and the follow up 'A Grand Don't Come For Free'have been a big influence on Ren but props to you Knox for having excellent taste!! 👏😊 love from The UK ✌
The guitars on Diazapam are lush. Mix those with his vocals on this….one of my favourite tracks on Demos 2. Think you’re right regarding keeping people ‘in the room’. I was introduced to Ren in January 2023 with Hi Ren and have had so much fun exploring Ren’s back catalogue, the Big Push and his other work with Sam and Chinchilla as well as his new Sick Boi tracks. His range of styles, his relatability and honesty…..I could go on……he is the real deal. Love the reaction. Definitely look to cover Blind Eyed with Sam but do the live MC Sessions version…🔥
Ren manages to put concepts into words "Don't want tomorrow cuz right now I'm golden" is so accurate- when you have the double brain (the demons and the common sense) your common sense recognises that when the valium wears off all the shit comes back and the demons aren't muted anymore- it's one of the reasons it's so easy to get hooked on- just to keep those voices muted and the sharp edges off life.
I can’t wait for Rens next album-- I really want it to be packed with sounds and songs similar to Diazepam.. Suicide.. Chalk outlines Sexual healing with Chinchilla type music 💕
Keep up the great work! Ren is the modern day Bard. Your breakdown of all the songs you do are bangers and make me go back and listen to the original again and catch more things!
"It's like anything in life - Without a balance, over-indulgence leads to addiction; leads to reliance, and then it leads to self-distructive habits and behaviours." - Knox Hill [2023]
Love your reactions and music. Your reaction to Hi Ren was the very first time I heard about him. I instantly fell for his music. Blind eyed is awesome. Would love to hear you react to it. Your song not for sale is fire!!🎧🔥
It amazes me how much my 5 year old daughter literally loves Ren, every single day she asks my wife to play the sick boi album on her way to and home from school. At least one out of my 4 kids has good taste in music :) she also wants a guitar for Xmas and can’t wait for Santa to bring her it and see her learn, and Ren is 100% aspiring her to do so and I love him even more that ❤
I love this song. I recently bought Ren (Do Not Share) Volumes 1 & 2. Fucking brilliant ! This is like the Greatest Hits of an Unknown Artist. Put it on in my new car today - blew my mind. The sweet guitar riff in the middle - who the hell can do that ? Honestly it is his old stuff, like this, that really grabs me.
Ren is up there with Tim Minchin, Bo Burnham, Bill Bailey with his comedy song. When he wants to, his pen and his rapping is up there with Eminem. His melodies are up there with Paul McCartney or Paul Simon. But, for me, where he is head and shoulders above everyone else, is how he can "go straight for the heart". He can really, really get you in the feels. Other artists do it occasionally; Otis Redding, Etta James, Van Morrison, Janis Joplin, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse... but Ren seems to be able to do it at will.
I feel so happy to have found Ren even before Hi Ren released. He is truly great and i would love to see you analyze more of anything he is a part of. So glad to be following both of your journeys!
Knox bro 1st love your reactions. People call you the goat of reactors for a reason, because you are. 2nd If you got a phone call & it's Ren. He phones to ask if you're interested in doing a collaboration with him what would your response and reaction be like.
Knox, I really love your breakdowns and analysis of Ren's songs. You are definitely on point with so much. Some of what you are saying here reminds of Lou Reed's "ode" to heroin in Perfect Day, which was always a "love song" of a destructive kind.
Thanks for the reaction. I love this song as it does exactly what you described. It makes me feel like im in that dream state. Also would you do a breakdown of one of your songs? I feel like that would be interesting.
