WHY RETIRE in CHINA? 

China is a good place for retirement . Friendly people , low tax , and so much amazing food . I will be in China for my retirement .

Chinese citizens can surely vote, but to vote the local People’s representative, whom has the power to supervise/vote officials, to make voices of the people, like to build infrastructure or to make suggestions.

World without CIA n Politicians will b a peaceful world.

You know what, you walk a lot more living in China that make you live longer

China: no property taxes , more than 70% people no need to pay income taxes , no tips , a lot of super cheap street foods , you don’t have to pay the expensive car cost like in the USA, and wonderful service once your got accident when you drive , no “surprise “ extra money, etc . Too much convenient things compared with the western world. The only negative side is the average income is lower than the western world but the price of life also lower even in bigger cities

I have traveled to China over 20 times. I enjoy the country. When i visit, I travel with a tourist Visa. Younger people can also obtain a work visa or an educational visa if the circumstances apply. I don' t believe Residence Visas are available for foreigners over a certain age. It is my understanding that China does not have any program for foreign retirees. I suspect your circumstance is unique as you have a wife who is a Chinese National. China is not unusual for having this policy as most countries don't want take take care of seniors from a different country. Please discuss the Visa programs for foreigners over age 60 in China. Maybe you have new information. I don't think Canada wants us "Yanks" either.

No property tax plus lower cost of living

Nice video. Totally agree. One thing I really like is you do not need a car here. Didi and public transportations are SUPER SUPER convenient. You don't have to have a car that comes with its expenses. It is awesome!

I lived in china off and on. Fell in love and want to move there for good. I'm 43 ready to give up the corporate life. I love your videos. Always inspirational and say it how it is. No biased views which is greatly appreciated. Any advice on making the plunge. Keep doing your videos and you really are amazing.

I was in Nanning last year for two months and I loved it. I agree with you when you said home is where the heart is and mine is definitely in Nanning, China. I honestly did not want to leave and I have missed it every day since I left. I hope I am able to return soon. It is one of the most peaceful places I have ever lived and I was very comfortable there. I have a 7 year old son and I was never afraid of walking around the city or traveling through the country with him. I really loved the fruit and vegetable markets there. I am vegan and there was plenty of options for me. I miss the vegetarian restaurants there also. I enjoy your videos. It’s like watching videos from my home.

Good morning sir, China is a good place to retire reasonable cost of living and wonderful low stress place. Cats and dogs because C comes before D . Medical care is cheap in China. Canada and US have to wait a bit longer. That is why I always gain weight when I am in China.

You have me convinced to retire in China but I am too old now and old enough to be your dad. If I am still at your age I would definitely consider it. I retired at age 57. With the pensions I receive every month, I can afford to buy a nice home there and live better than a king. Old well! That’s life.

It would be great if you could talk about some practical aspects of living in China as a retired expat. For example, a breakdown of living costs, how to set up a bank account as a nonresident, how to move money in or out of the country, taxation issues, etc. There are a lot of such videos for retirement destinations such as Vietnam, Ecuador, etc, but I haven't seen this for China.

The one issue relative to wanting to live in China for retirement is the Visa. Perhaps you can address this on a future video. For most people, to retire in China is not feasible, due to the visa requirements. Food for thought.

In fact, once people have tried they'll seldom want to return to their motherland. China is emerging into high tech era. Young westerners are happy with job opportunities and living standards here, which they have never thought of before.

Another great video. One thing about being an "older" person in China is the respect and cordiality shown to seniors! Compared to Canada, where older people are disrespected and ignored.

Totally agree, China and other SE Asian countries are super places for retirees. I've lived and worked all over the world from Europe to Australia, Middle East to SE Asia. Now comfortably retired as an Australian national, I've chosen to live long-term in SE Asia. My (unnamed) country of choice is one where English-speaking people can comfortably get by. It issues low-cost 10-year (renewable) retirement visas, allows me to own landed property, has low crime, low cost of living, no resentment of foreigners, 1st class health facilities and superb varieties of food. I would love to spend some time in China if not for my inability to speak Mandarin and absence of a long-term retiree visa program.

'Content' is the key to happiness. Retiring in a foreign country is not for the timid; many may have strong attachments to families, etc. Anyway, it is a different stroke for different folks. We all choose our ways of lives. If the decision you made brings happiness, it is a bonus.

Marxist economy/society is better suited for retirees. In Carl Marx's writing, socialism was build on top of a mature capitalistic society where productivity has highly evolved, and ownership has highly concentrated. In his later years, he had doubts that Lenin could bypass the capitalism stage in a soviet Russia with large undeveloped rural population, and still succeed with communism. I think history answered that question. China knows that socialism is all about the distribution of wealth to the society ie managing the demand in Keynesian economics. Therefore, China will encourage enough capitalism to generate the necessary weath to provide the supply. The State-Owned-Enterprises (SOE) are a hybrid of the two - a necessary buffer. When supplies go down like now, SOE will splinter off into more productive private enterprises. As supplies go into excess like the last few year, SOE will help cushion the economic slowdown by absorbing unemployment and inflation. This is the reason why China didn't experienced a harsh recession post 2008 and won't after covid-19. That is the strength and resilience of Xi's Marxist economy model (Xionmics) and the essential role that SOE plays. As a retiree who has done his part in accumulating wealth for the society, China's social services and higher quality of life for the average seniors are particularly attractive. Canada, are you listening?

don't know how the situation is in Europe, but in the US the real fear is you are literally ONE accident away from poverty, it could be a car accident, a freak accident, a bad marriage, having a kid with the wrong partner, a bad boss, a bad business decision or just a night of fun turns into a credit card debt, there is no social safety net to fall back on in the US for most people.

When a country is divided by race, religion & politic, then it will not progress as it should. And folks, that's a democratic country, 99% of it. I know, coz I live in a democratic country which is very divided because of race, religion & politic. In China, because there is no politicking, the people in China are very united, that's why China can progress & at a very fast rate. The Chinese will leave all decisions to the people that know best. Henceforth, the ordinary Chinese can use their time, energy & money to do what is best for themselves to further themselves.

My plan is to rent a place in one province for a few months and enjoy that province, then move to the next province to do the same and on and on

My grandmother moved back to H K for her retirement . A very good choice for retirement . Very convenient in H K , China Because she didn't like Canada one bit , especially in the winter . No BS

China freedom is better than the west i,m from the uk and worked around the world all my life and 20 years ago found my wife when I was working in China. We have a house in China and in the uk. At present we are working and living in Abu Dhabi UAE which is very expensive. When we finish work we plan on moving back to China.

I suppose nobody from US of A can no longer retire anytime soon in China. Most don't even have a passport. And Texas? Not even a consular service...

I used to live IN 瑞士花园 about 2 years at 20 years ago. right now i move to NY USA.

They're now setting up some advanced top hospitals on Hainan Island so you may not even have to fly all that way back to Canada for medical treatments.

In CHINA one doesn't think about voting, because there is NOT a lot to complain about, as I had everything I wanted or needed. I was free to travel anywhere, and stay where I wanted to, I found everyone so friendly and helpful. Today in Western countries voting is more about ousting a Government, when dissatisfied with them.

Yes I ll go back to live in China and back forth to Europe, as I hv family here, I dot want to leave them, but I know I ll enjoy long holidays in China for a month every 2 or 3 months, such exchanging life is very exciting.

Retire in Malaysia. Decent enough English spoken here and you can live a pretty decent life with just under 1000 usd per month. Rent, utilities, food and the occasional entertainment.

I think I can retire in China without language and food taste problem. But I need to stay with my boy & girl.

America is changing not for the better. The U.S. does have Social security and medical benefits but keep in mind everything is so expensive like rent, medicine, insurance, cost of living, etc. And, not to mention about the crime. Take the NYC subway for example, you have to watch your back constantly and I don't think you have to do that in the subway like China, Hong Kong or Japan.

Work in China and make good money then retire in south east Asia. China is a great place to spend time but Thailand as a place to retire absolutely bests China in every conceivable way. Food, weather, cost of living, openness, politics, way of life, culture. Impossible for China to complete but if does offer far better earning opportunities. Make your money in China, retire in Thailand.

Expats often say for a serious medical issue they can jump on a plane and go some other place. When you get to the airport you might be surprised they won't let you onto the plane if you have visible medical issues. They will require you to be cleared by a doctor who may not clear you because flying can cause serious problems for some conditions. Denied also if the doctor thinks you could have a crisis during the flight so a short flight is less risky than a 20 hour trip half way around the world.

I love China, after spending a little time there it made the USA seems old, run down & expensive. Life would be great if I could speak Mandarin

Actually, you can vote, vote for your local administrators, and deputy to the NPC. However people usually are not aware of the procedure, and don't bother, as there is no campaign.

At least you don't have to tip in China. I don't know why Americans can't pay their service staff the right wages so that they don't have to rely on tips. Having to rely on tips is a form of exploitation in my opinion.

It's raining dog and cat food for seniors in the west that are on a fixed income. They pay high tax for years, sell all their possessions to survive and hope someone visits them once in a while at a covid infested retirement home. No thanks, I'd stay in any Asian country first.
