Why Roblox Is Not Safe For Children... 

Further clarifications: Preston, owner/creator of "Pet Sim X" has told me that he diligently bans any accounts known to be trading items off server, as well as making the point nothing in his server was akin to anything regarding slot machines or gambling being present in "Pet Sim X".

"Ask your parents before going online" was a statement we all casually ignored back in the day because it seemed silly, but with websites like Roblox and TikTok maybe we should've taken that recommendation much more seriously.

Let me be a boomer here for a second and point out the fact that at some point, parents have to be accountable for what their children are doing on the net.

What’s crazy is sometimes kids and teens will band together to ban or get rid of predators from their games and servers and stuff. Which is a good skill at such an age, but like one RU-vidr said “kids shouldn’t be the ones getting rid of predators from their games”.

Roblox desperately needs a thorough investigation. Not just for this, but there are quite a few PDF files in there. Two or three have been busted already.

There's a bad combination about, parents don't seem to teach kids about internet safety anymore. I was playing roblox for shits n giggles and there was a little girl in chat who said her age, the school she went to and her username was the 3 first letters of her first and last name.... I told her that what she did could be dangerous and she just didn't understand why :(

I joined ROBLOX in January of 2007. My account ID # was under 10000. I stopped playing around 2012. It blows my mind what it has become. When I started playing, nobody that I knew, knew what it was. I tried going back out of sheer boredom during the pandemic and it's *almost unrecognizable* to me. There are games with more people currently playing it than there were people playing ROBLOX when I was around. Crazy stuff. It's like driving down memory lane and everything you remember feels more generic, shiny and crowded. Made some amazing friends in those 5-6 years of playing though. Shout out to Minish, LuckyGlues, Pheedy, CSX, Dignity, FoxMcBanjo, SilentSwords, Milan, Jigglypuff555, and Manta26. You guys made my childhood fun. 🔥

Roblox has gone so far downhill, I remember when I played it as a kid, and it was on the level of most other MMOs. I have had enough of these greedy scumbags, I decided to hop back on my account after years of inactivity, just to find out I'm banned because my "security cant be verified" I sent them an email from the account I made, and showed proof of purchases as well as my old password and everything. They kindly pointed the middle finger at me and said "Sorry we dont have a way to verify your account, so it will remained banned. Companies like this make me sick, ruining childhoods....

Which is why my daughter, who started playing Roblox when she was like 6 years old, was given enough money to purchase a cosmetic or something she wanted and that was it. We give her 10 bucks we'd watch to see what she would spend and we would follow up by checking her balance every once in a while. She already learned at an early age the value of a dollar and never once had a problem with her spending frivolously. A couple times she wanted money, enough to buy a game pass in a game or two but she picks her games very carefully and asks maybe twice a whole year for a little bit of money. You've got to do it when they're young to show them the difference between a valued purchase and a waste of money. The first thing I taught her was exactly this video says never spend Robux on a chance to get something in a game. Either by the whole pass and get all of it or buy a cosmetic that you can use over and over again

Fun fact: In the earlier stages of the roblox catalogue, shirts and pants could alternatively be purchased with a free currency called Tickets. They could also be acquired for free as well, but later down the road, Roblox removed tickets and forced clothing creators to charge at least five robux in selling their clothing.

If I have kids, they’re banned from the internet. I’ve seen too many kids get targeted by bad people (including my own younger siblings) to feel any other way.

Finally ive been saying this for ages. I've educated my son on staying away from the gambling shit. It's everywhere. Loads of games are stuffed with loot boxes and such like. I've even seen games that are straight up casinos where kids can buy chips to gamble with. And in their defence they have actively been removing copyright stuff from the platform. There have been tens of thousands of music tracks removed in the last few months.

As a parent: Parents MUST check what their kids are watching and playing. Roblox is for children but parents can not still let their kids be babysat by computers. There are many many roblox games that are very clearly for teens or older teens (I know that there is 13 and older but still) as they include horror elements and other nsfw elements.

If I ever have children, I’ll make sure they know very well about gambling, predatory behavior, and other dangers of the online world before letting them go ANYWHERE.

The part about the discords and websites selling in-game items for IRL money is very much true, almost every popular enough game with trading mechanics has one. I mostly do trading on discords(used to). A lot of people make crazy money from performing middleman trades for customers.

What's really sad is you can spawn these items in with cheat engine then sell them. LMAO

Roblox is probably worse than Tiktok, disregarding the fact that a lot of the criminal activity is being done directly to kids.

I played this game 10+ years ago as a child, and it was so much fun. There were very minimal micro transactions, and you could earn the in-game currency by playing the game. (That feature has been removed, surprise surprise) This is insane how badly this game has changed. Used to be a place to express creativity and make fun little games to play with your friends, now it’s straight predatory holy shit

Roblox is devolving further every day. I'm glad these kinds of stuff are actually being talked about. I feel like Roblox won't ever fix by itself so it is important if we push these situations to the public. Hoping to see issues getting fixed and actually being solved is like a gambling itself for me.

I was one of those kids who had unrestricted access to Roblox, and spent nearly 600 dollars of my dad’s credit card without him noticing until he went through my old iPad. I never knew why I wasn’t punished much more than I was (my parents weren’t exactly soft) but I now realize that the predatory practices of Roblox and Roblox games are mostly to blame, and they probably realized that.

With each passing year, Roblox keeps digging themselves a deeper and deeper grave.

I cant even begin to describe how many times roblox has protected literal proven and dangerous players/people from their platform despite outrage and community cries to stop them.

When I was a kid I played Roblox around when it came out. Back then, it was pretty much all obstacle courses and similar things people built (ie I made an obstacle course that was supposed to be "inside of an iphone") and was actually pretty fun to the point that I'd still play it today. Unfortunately it looks like at some point the game completely changed since I can't recognize it at all anymore.

I was one of the older ROBLOX players (I started playing it around when I was 10 years old and ended around when I was 19 or 20 - a fair bit into my college career before I finally decided to drop it). ROBLOX is truly like a reflection of modern society; a huge majority of the playerbase would just drone around between games, while a tiny minority of the players will make thousands of dollars on their games. Your experience on ROBLOX is heavily reliant on your friends; I had fairly good friends, and we had a blast playing games and even started making a few of our games. We had a shared interest in aviation, and today I find myself completing my graduate degree in aerospace engineering; one of my friends is a pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force, and another one of my friends just landed a co-op with Boeing, and I'd attribute a fair bit of our career paths with being able to explore our passions with each other on ROBLOX. However, the opposite could occur, especially if you are a younger player with a lesser sense of maturity; you can very easily fall into the hands of a pedo if you are not careful, and there are very few safety nets in place. Oddly enough, though, my time on ROBLOX has taught me a lot of social skills, especially the ones relating to dealing with business and negotiation. It's literally like a reflection of the real world at times; there are developers who are paid to make games for others, networking and social circles can heavily decide the popularity of your game, you could pay real money for assets to use in your games, and there is a literal stock market on the platform that's been there since at least 2013. tl;dr: ROBLOX is like a 1:1 reflection of the real world; there are very few rules, and literally zero hand holding. Real life hits you very hard, and ROBLOX is a great place for the older teens to learn a few adult skills without risking (too much) real money. However, for kids under 10 years old? Get the fuck away.

I was a Roblox War clanner from 2011-2018, and I’ve seen my fair share of disgusting and crazy things. There’s been times where HRs or even Owners of war clans would get caught sexting or even grooming minors that were within their own clan. They usually them get blacklisted by most other clans, but then later end up getting away with it. I’ve known some HRs before they were exposed, and even two clan owners too. It gives me trust issues in online groups and makes me mad why nobody remembers the awful things that happened in Roblox war clanning. Another thing was how kids would create clothing, RCL gun models/scripts, and even raid maps for clans just to get a bad deal or scammed. I used to dabble in this also, never got scammed but I’ve seen how others have.

As a ROBLOX dev, this is embarrassing. This was ignored for years, his income and games were never cut.

as a user since 2013 & am now 20 i have to say that i’ve encountered many weird adults, especially in the voice chat enabled games. it really is disgusting because those types of people are there to talk to minors. when i join to just play with friends, i run into these people & when i tell them i’m 20 they get upset. like, how gross can you be that me being a adult like you gets you sooo upset because i’m not a minor!?! it really is gross & sad.

This goes deeper than most people realize too, "premium collectible items" really exist for certain players to take advantage of the game's economy with computer automation. Basically rendering it impossible to find good prices for collectible items and for example if someone accidentally sells a collectible item for 1 Robux it will instantly be purchased by a robot monitoring the website's entire collectible's catalog.. People at high levels in this organization automate the purchasing and selling of these collectibles, leading to artificial growth and inflation of the in-game currency. This is just one of the methods used to cause inflation of collectible items too. Very wealthy players will purchase huge amounts of collectible items and delete them from their inventory or just hoard them to create the illusion of scarcity, and they face no consequences for manipulating item prices either. I've seen some code made to do this very thing and more, and the person using it was making over $1,000 USD a week with the automation of these tasks. They were just a kid too. This is more than just gambling and I wouldn't be surprised if Roblox was corrupt at the highest levels of the corporation.

As someone who has played the game for about a decade on and off, driver license checks only happen for voice chat features. As for trading offsite, mainly it's adults who own the very valuable limited items. I have about $10-$20k usd worth of them that I only probably invested a couple hundred usd when I was young. The grey market is rampant and I have plenty of knowledge in that area.

As someone who had a incident with Roblox. The users I met were toxic adults that would just bully and do pretty horrible stuff such as blackmail and other things was awful. I reported then to Roblox. There were Roblox sex games and tons of horrible stuff I left out of fear but I'm glad to see that this is getting more coverage. Alot of them would also promote map beliefs and other things and such this was in 2016 and I left out of fear of them trying to harm me and my family. Edit: I know I mentioned I was around the age of 12 or around that number this was when I was in middle school. But overall this experience was very scary for me as they were pretty aggressive and pretty shitty as a whole. I say around 2016 due to me being around that time but at the same time I know I was in middle school. Currently now I'm in college and this experience still makes me uncomfortable as they would groom and ask of pretty fucked up things. The black mail and such came into play. I mentioned I was 12 but it's been awhile and this moment has always been very fearful for me.

Same thing happened in Runescape where the company was under legal pressure to stop the gambling, which they did for the most part. I don't see how a game designed for children is still being allowed to let this stuff slide.

I was a behavior interventionist for some time, and I NEVER allowed my clients to play Roblox on their breaks because of a lot of the inappropriate content on it.

I've been playing Roblox for 8 years, started back in 2014. It really feels like Roblox has gotten worse, though that simply may be cause I was unaware at the time. Feels like a tragedy, really.

This only scratched the surface of the Roblox rabbit hole, wait until he sees how much the top end tradable limited items go for on the Avatar Shop. Not to mention loads of accounts worth thousands of dollars with these items sitting on them are being compromised countless times a day due to Roblox's poor security. Roblox is also known for not serving "rollbacks" (aka restoring stolen assets to your account) in lots of cases of genuine account theft causing the owner to lose everything they had. In short, the site has very serious problems with the virtual economy and I'm genuinely surprised they haven't been taken to court over it.

SimCity Buildit has similar problems although the player would have to have a credit/debit card set up with Amazon for transactions to go through.

I remember PayPal removing themselves from Gaia Online back in the day due to gambling. I don't even think Gaia had lootboxes at the time, but I do know they went after them for the literal slot machine game they had.

Many adults and teens play these games as well due to Roblox youtubers and commentary youtubers. I think that their security could be better, but that's why there are so many paying options and 'gambling games'. The point of those games is to be as addictive as possible to allow money into the creators account. People do these games as a job, that's why there are so many games like this.

As an avid roblox player for the past 10 ish years, I can say that the offsite black market trading has basically always been a thing but the gambling has really only really taken off in the past few years. pet simulator is 100% one of the biggest culprits for spreading the gambling trend like wildfire across roblox.

Honestly, I stopped playing on Roblox when they decided that censoring numbers was more important than stopping kids from literally gambling. I haven't touched it in at least 6 years.

I haven’t even started the video but based on the title I completely agree. I see the comments mention predatory situations. To add to that, my gf’s 5 year old nephew was allowed to play roblox cause his parents had no idea what it was. Every time I saw him play there’s was so much scary shit like momo, jeff the killer, and other gory fucked up shit. We had to talk to the parents cause it got to the point where he himself got scared once and came to us asking what was in the game….he was in a horror room with real fucked up images. That place is rotten it’s gross.

I’m happy to finally see this. I used to stream roblox on twitch and had to quit after I found out what goes on there. Don’t want to say too much but money laundering, scams (not robux scams either) and also rampant account theft smaller devs they will get there roblox accounts compromised and have thousands of dollars stolen from them your only scratching the surface here. There is also the issue of in some games there of straight erp it’s really sickening.

Finally, someone is covering the lootbox mechanics in Roblox games. I have been commenting a lot about it on Yong Yea's videos hoping that he would notice, and cover the subject, however, he never did. So I'm glad someone of your size is. Adopt me which is one of the biggest games on Roblox is literally just buying loot boxes and pulling rare pets and role-playing with them. I used to play on Roblox a lot when I was younger and now to me, it's just baffling how many games just want you to spend Robux on loot boxes. Roblox doesn't seem to care because they are hitting record profits, they even took out the free currency Tix a few years ago to get more people to buy Robux.

i’ve been playing roblox since 2012. i was 9 (i’m 19 now) it’s just so sad to see how the game has completely changed and just got so popular and money hungry. the game isn’t even roblox anymore. and anyone who played roblox from around the early days of it being out, i think like 2006? through to about 2015, you’d know the shift. it’s just really depressing. this game used to spark creativity, it was for older kids too like 9-17 i’d say. now it’s babied down, and nothing seems authentic anymore.

Just remember: ROBLOX gets billions from this where they can have their own version of the Grammys and file multi-million dollar lawsuits against those exposing child predators on their staff, but yet somehow they can't afford to pay IP holders of their assets, rework their outright broken chat filter systems, or improve their server repair/maintenance department where a single chance at a free burrito from Chipotle sponsor can knock the entire website out for a week with up to 24+ hours before we get an update on server maintenance.

The same argument could be applied to crate keys in certain minecraft servers as well. I never thought of it this way

Roblox is now teen rated on app stores and you can no longer advertise to players >13. There are issue with "Limiteds", been talking with other devs about this exact issue. Nothing us developers or I personally am able to do as of current about issues on the platform I develop on. Gambling is against Roblox's TOC, as said on the TOC and the Roblox developer forum. Roblox moderation however is infamous at this point. Can't really do anything about that either.

as a regular roblox player for over 4 years roblox as a corporation farms children for money with a full official limited item page and they have no employees hired to moderate or regulate literally anything because children cant complain they try to push aside any problems that arise or any criticism

My 13 yr old Daughter has played for years everyday. She always has a very full piggy bank irl in the hundreds of dollars and never once has she asked to spend any of it in Roblox. Instead she asks to go to flea markets and antique stores all the time or buys art supplies. Most kids are not stupid as society wants to think. Give some credit to the kids for being able to just have fun without giving up their innocence. But if Will Smiths kids want to spend THOUSANDS on RoBlox, I don't have any issues with that.

Minecraft, TikTok, Roblox, Fortnite.. etc. all have a huge child predator and/or gambling problem. It's sad but all we can do is suggest parents keep an eye on their kid and try to get companies to be more strict.

Back in my day we literally had roulettes and even caterls in HABBO hotel. Kids would gamble, rob and scam others if they had to. I've seen kids with 20k+ euros worth of income on Habbo just with gambling and scheming and some of them would resell their coins for real money. God those were the days /s.

Just a little side pov but I play Roblox here and there and I'm 23. The reason why is because some of the games are actually really well made and I enjoy playing a more casual fps sometimes (such as arsenal) One thing that I notice is that sometimes I completely forget that the players im playing with aren't the same age as me and I'll sometimes get angry at people for doing dumb things. That being said. Thankfully I notice myself getting too angry and cool myself down but the fact that roblox is SO easy to access and that theres definite toxicity from the older players who play(which is surprisingly more then you'd expect) makes me believe that there might be a actual use in having a mature version of roblox. The tools of roblox are amazing and the experiences people have made are great as well. But its a HUGE mixing pot of different ages and that brings some really bad issues

I used to have a friend that sadly went to Roblox he also got arrested for trying to meet up with a kid in real life thankfully said kid was a decoy and he's not in jail. but its scary how easy it is to make a meeting like these with kids in VR chat and Roblox and among other games aswell

When I was in high school Uber was relatively new(2015-2019), at one point you didn’t need a ID or license to use Uber and you could go to the store and buy a Uber pre-paid card and go anywhere as a teenager for like 25$ which looking back on is really insane

Second Life (which is basically an adult version of Roblox, and yes, it's still a thing) prohibits gambling. They also banned gachas in 2021. They allow "skilled gaming" but it's strictly regulated. You have to get permission from Linden Lab (the company that owns SL) in order to set up a Skilled Gaming Region. Anyone who wants to enter a SGR has to have current billing info, active payment info, and are at least 19 years old. Also, people from the states of Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Nevada, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Tennessee are not allowed to go onto SGRs because those states' gambling laws are too broad and/or vague.

ive experienced it all since 2016. aswell as games such as psx there is websites that are easily promoted within the community that you can actually gamble on (slots, crash, basically stake with robux)

For a second I thought you bought a $200 card and then Roblox only credited you $15, but then I went back and saw that the card was for "$15-$200" and you bought the minimum amount. The nice thing about these cards is that you don't have to give any of these sketchy games or companies your actual debit or credit card information.
