Running a FuelTech FT600 ECU and a 2.2L stroker 4G63, this Mitsubishi EVO 8 aka KNG 4G has already run a 10.50 at 150mph on a more basic setup and with a solid 650kw (870hp) at the moment there is plenty of room to turn the wick up as the driver's experience and the build progress.
Joe Karam of Team Karam Racing gives us a rundown why this application uses the 4G63 block with a 2.2L stroker kit rather than a bigger 4G64 option.

the block is actually the same. It's the top end that determines the displacement..... most of these parts are interchangeable between the 4g63 and 4g64 #savetheeclipse

The 4G64 isn’t a bad engine, but from what I’ve learned (owning a evo) the problem you have is timing and water pump shit. Other than that if you keep it a 2.4 it does fairly well, you can still rev 8500 with a good tune and I beam rods etc. although for the destroke (64 block with 63 crank) people say it’s way better than the std 2.0 63, The only real advantage I see in that is you can do a better long rod set up. Other than that the “torque” gain isn’t that drastic enough

I run the water pump from an outlander I believe for my 2.4 setup and it works great but your definitely spot on with the timing issues

What are the differences in performance (if any) between a stroker 4g63 and a destroker 4g64? I can't decide which to go with for my daily street thrasher.. (NZ based)

They use a Longer rod with a 2.2 stroker crank in the 4g64 block giving it a better rod to stroke ratio vs using a 2.2 crank and factory length rod in the 4g63 block

Friend has a 2.3 and the low end torque production keeps destroys the transmission he Never had they issue with a 2.0

How is he running a fuel pump instead of the top motor mount? Is the pump body acting as a solid mount, did he put another motor mount somewhere else, or is the top mount not necessary if you run poly mounts everywhere else?

nah, It's just the angle The Mech fuel pump is run off the exhaust cam gear

@@kinslayergaming3159 If you could point it out in an image, that would be helpful. I own a Lancer which shares the same mount location and it's not there. I don't see one anywhere on the right side of the engine.

Is the 4g63 good for land rover defender ???? Like my defender use 16 liters for 100km I need good engine and only use 10 liter for 100km

Get an Na Jz for ur defender or a 1kd from a hilux, if u wanna keep it mitsubishi a 4d56T diesel is the better go

@@chechen_power1jz ik its been a long time but, from my experience an n/a 1jz is a perfect swap. Its a toyota engine so basic maintenance and it will last. And being a 6 cylinder a slightly smoother power band

@@sexyfacenation factory spec engines should be way more reliable than any race engine. That gets rebuild every season. Or in drag racing almost every event. Unless you go billet that most normal people can't afford

@@kseriesdan9722 loose rings or vakve stem seals make engines smoke. That has nothing to do with after market builds. Your mention of magna engines makes no sense.
