This is just a St. George ribbon, sewn on by the soldiers themselves. There has never been or will be any official form like this. just like the Soviet flags in the column of armored vehicles - this was purely the initiative of the soldiers, and not the military command. there were no orders regarding flags and ribbons.

Can't answer for all countries & forces, but from my perspective - logics, procurement & manufacturing. Essentially all of our kit way back then was 'green'. There were very limited amounts of 'desert' kit in stores, because it was of limited use and that was normally limited to uniforms. So available ancillary kit such as packs, webbing / belt order, body armour, NBC suits was still of the 'green' variety until procurement & manufacturing caught up with operational demand.

Mostly Logistical issues.

Same for russian units early in Syria. Logistics, it takes time to design and start manufacturing new stuff, and then shipping and issuing it. Like there was already a PASGT/6B45 and DBDU and DCU/pig skin and olivier. But it still took some time to jsut combine them together.

Soldiers win battles, logistics win wars.

This was a thing with British troops in Afghanistan, because they were patrolling a lot of what was known as the "green zone", with lots of trees and farmland in an otherwise arid environment, neither the CS95 woodland or desert DPM patterns which were both available at the time were applicable to the kind of terrain they would find themselves in over the course of a patrol so they "met in the middle" by mixing and matching desert and woodland as some kind of compromise. This is despite the fact that both desert and woodland DPM work extremely well in their respective environments, but mid-way through the war there was a UOR (urgent operational requirement) posted to give them something more suitable for environment and that's when we see MTP adopted along with the osprey system, which is a cross between DPM and Multicam to give a better average concealment in both arid and woodland

But they're not making good use of them at all. Use the broken vehicles to block the roads to the city. I can't believe they didn't do that on the first day with buses and trash trucks. Now they got all these derelict Russian heavy military tanks and they're just leaving them sit.

I wonder why these same people are not calling for probes into Iraq. Or Ukraine's own actions over the last 8 years. Or even the 2014 coup (isn't that an act of war).

Don't forget that the last independent probe requested by Russia for mh17 was an investigation team which later turned out to be funded by the FSB trough various shell corporations. I did some digging and I believe that the ribbons are just elastic ribbons with the standard ratnik uniforms with strips of fabric sewed in or tape to hold the ribbons on the uniforms

@@Xamze I do not believe so, I think that as stated in the video it is not an official part of the uniform it is an improvised article in order to help identify friendlies and also the ribbons wrinkles an surface aligning with the jacket could also be heat pressed into the uniform but the specific unit
