Hi y'all! In today's #FriendlySisterlyAdvice, I'm sharing my thoughts on why entry level salaries seem low when compared to how much education you may have and some food for thought to hopefully help you with your mindset, especially when you are first starting out (or at any point in your career). I hope this was helpful!
Please let me know what other topics you want me to chat with y'all about in future FSA videos!! And remember to Enjoy Your Journey y'all!

I searched for and watched a lot of accounting videos aimed at students and I must say that Stephie's are the best. Not because of anything visual or even new information; it's just the content creator. She talks to us, not down to us and she makes it easy to understand instead of using big words to try to make herself sound smart... It's like listening to a friend instead of someone arrogant.

Wow thank you so much, that means so much to me because that's my intention in sharing my content! I remember not having a resource during the early part of my life and career and get so much fulfillment from being able to help shed light on the profession. Thank you for your kind feedback!

I honestly thought that the salary we are offered initially is better than most entry level jobs so the pay never bothered me. I think if you live below your means and grind and hustle it out, your promotion and fair pay will come in no time! Thanks for the vid steph!

I think it's also important to remember that people with other majors aren't even making $50,000 out of college. Compare accounting salaries to engineering majors and yeah it sucks but we're still doing a lot better than most. And for a single person $50,000-$60,000 is pretty ok. My parents make a combined $77,000 and they can support a family of 4( low cost of living area), so you can still live comfortably with $50,000.

I agree and definitely think it depends on the person's background and experiences. For me, I was beyond excited for the salary and I know many people would be happy with it too.

The average household income in America is like 60k, I think. A recent college graduate starting out at 50k isn’t bad at all it could be way worse. Trust me it’s plenty of people in this country that haven’t made that much.

There are lots of people like me in science who have Master's degrees (it took me 3 years to complete mine in biotech) who get paid 40k

It really depends on where you are. In Florida 60K is not entry level, not at all. But our cost of living is very low as well.!

I am an intern at a public accounting firm. I do tax preparation and I can confirm the safety net idea. The people who review my returns and catch my mistakes deserve a lot of money. It takes a lot of knowledge and experience to be as precise as they need to be. I am very thankful for my safety net and hope to be one someday.

when you used your hands and showed the decreasing discrepancy between pay and workload, it genuinely made me feel so relieved. i've been so worried about that discrepancy because so many people leave accounting for that reason

You are so right! I'm in my current company for 2 years now, and I can see myself grow professionally and personally at the exponential rate! Like you said, hard work will be paid off in time, just need time to unfold the big prize!!

The U.S. has the biggest pay discrepancy of any industrialized country. CEO's now make 361x1 times the pay of the lowest paid employee! That's why many entry level pay is lower than expected!..When I lived in Japan it was around 40x1

I graduated with a health science degree in 2006 and my starting salary was $25k. Now in 2018, I have a master's degree and I'm earning $34k in GA in social services for a large healthcare company. I do high level work but paid low level money. I'm changing fields soon... currently back in school working on it because I can't continue to be paid like this.

I am on the same boat, totally understand. You got to do what you think is necessary and best for you, even if that means giving up a job with a noble cause, if it's no longer sustainable. Good luck and best wishes to your future!

Thank you so much for your videos, they are really helpful! I'll be starting as a trainee auditor in the UK after I graduate in June and working towards my ACA (The UK CPA equivalent). I was wondering if you could do a video or link me to a video you may have already done, on what work will be like in my 1st year as an audit trainee? Many thanks!!

Hey Stephanie, I have a question regarding your perspective. In my plan I'm going to be joining the big 4 after finishing school. My grand plan is to work at Google after working at one of the big 4 for as long as I need. As I see you as my future me, what is your opinion that plan will be possible and will that be a good plan? If not what can I fix? And did you thought of working for Google, besides RU-vid, as an accountant when switching careers?

Where I live in Wales (UK) the average starting salary straight out of university into public accounting is £15,000-16,000 which is about $20,000. This is compensated by a study package to for the ACCA/ACA professional qualification which costs around £3k-5k a year and after you pass each exam you get a pay rise but to be earning the equivalent of the US starting salary would take years here.

Florida entry level salary even lower. Bonus for passing CPA exam completely irrelevant as not all companies care for it.

I have just graduated in Accounting and will be joining one of the Big 4 in September. They asked me to fill an application of USC Masters in Data Analytics. If I get in, it will be a one year masters and the firm would pay for my expenses. In that one year, I will also be doing an internship in that very company for a semester for hands-on analytics usage. The only problem is that my full-time offer will be deferred a full year. After watching the video, I am debating if I should go for this opportunity? How much data analytics is required for auditing? Thanks
