I do think Rare can pull through this. This isn't the 1st time they have had their backs to the wall. When the game 1st launched, everyone was giving it mediocre to low scores and saying it was dead on arrival. But Rare pulled through and delivered banger after banger of updates. They even delayed the pirate emporium until they saw that their game was fit to sell microtransactions 1.5 years later. Most other companies would have had a cash shop right off the bat no matter how shitty their game was.

The game will stop "feeling fresh" as soon as you complete the newest thing added, then it's right back to the old slog fest of kill everyone, steal everything, and eventually stop playing again because that chases everyone away from the game... making the servers feel empty. The game sucks because it's the people that make it suck for others all the time, if veteran players would spend more time helping new players enjoy the game rather than grinding them under boot repeatedly then the game would be a lot livelier and in better health.

Exactly, THIS. I genuinely think that people take the game for granted, and despite how much they say they "love" it, they don't pace themselves and take the time to enjoy it or even consider that there are those like myself who don't have enough time to even play during the week. I've found that most people who complain about lacking content for the game tend to be those who do nothing but play it for insanely long stretches of time, and as we all know, they tend to burn themselves out so quickly on it without taking the chance to properly enjoy it. Whenever something new comes out, people get bored in like a week because it's all they do, and they complain that nothing is up to par with their standards of what is "good content".

The game needs ranked/level based server match making to help people find players on their same skill level. The game also needs some form of actual progression, outside of cosmetics there isn't really anything that feels meaningful to get all this gold for, there are people sitting on millions of gold with nothing to spend it on and with no desire to play the game anymore because of this. I think actual additions to your ships are needed eg spending gold to get more storage barrels, slight bonuses to ship travel speed, slight cannon damage buffs etc, hard progression is needed as random additions won't keep people interested once they have tried them out for a week eg Like adding a grappling hook etc. These upgrades should be balanced towards crew sizes so smaller groups don't get bullied anymore then they already are, things like being able to design your ship to be better at avoiding combat by allowing smaller ships to be better at running away but have the trade off of less storage for loot etc. Lastly adding more ships and more weapons/utility tools; also server stability and performance needs to be fixed, its already being worked on by Rare as they have stated but it will be crucial for server issues to be fixed before any major gameplay additions can be added.

My pessimism stems from a combination of burnout and boredom. I've played this game (off and on) since 2018. I've seen most major updates and I'm pretty close to completing every single commendation in the game (largely without trying). *I have nothing left to do in the PvE world* and thus I am primarily focused on the PvP aspect of this game. The AI and game mechanics are too simple to present any meaningful challenge... so any new PvE update is just a checklist I'm gonna blow through in a week and never touch again (monkey island). I can no longer get excited for PvE, which sucks, but that seems unlikely to change. The servers are practically on life support and have been for a long time. Hitreg has been a problem for so long that I dare say most of the veterans have given up on the notion of it ever getting fixed. We just hope it doesn't get any worse. Over the last year and a half, I've become more open to the idea of a "Sea of Thieves 2". Essentially, SoT can't keep growing like this for much longer and they're struggling to maintain what they have due to technical debt. So a "fresh start" so to speak might be a good idea be that a sequel or a reboot, I don't care. Stronger infrastructure, new features, and a revitalized interest in Sea of Thieves. Taking what they've learned over the years and using that knowledge to build a foundation for the future. That's probably the best play in the long term.

Rare is self sabotaging at this point. Look at the introduction of coloured rowboats as an example. It was a very low effort addition, using what was basically the arena rowboats and making no real mechanical changes. Even so, its introduction managed to bring in a crippling bug where the rowboats clipped through land and ate all the treasure that was onboard. Now we have sirens song which is already dead and guilds, which seem to be working but which by their nature require other things to make them operate....and sirens song doesnt give guild reputation - why? It seems like outsourcing - like the team we are expecting to turn up is giving their shift to others and all the lessons learned during these years are having to be learned again. The Rare we expect just turns up from time to time when the replacement crew hits a rock or if the playercount goes too low.

My biggest issue with this game is the complete lack of good gameplay. Back when the game first launched, every battle was an honest ship battle where the winner was the one who could maneuver his ship and fire the most cannonballs. Now, as soon as you login and get a few chests of treasure, some reaper 5 sweat who plays 18 hours a day will board you, keg you, then proceed to spawn kill you using some glitch the devs don't bother patching until you're dead and your ship is sunk. Then he will do it again, over and over, because the spawns in this game are stupid. Another thing, I'm not sure how the cheating issue is at the moment, haven't played the game in a year or so. But when I last played, there was not a single lobby without some invisible, teleporting, god-mode cheater on your ship. The game was borderline unplayable, especially on European servers (Russians).

Sea of Thieves is one of my favorite games ever, if not the favorite. But that being said, I haven't played it regularly in probably over 2 years. There are three big reasons for that, and two of those reasons don't really have to do with the game itself. The two reasons are the people I used to play with regularly stopped playing a lot because of life stuff, and that I kind of got burnt out on it after the update that introduced the sirens. The reason that does have to do with the game though, is the main reason why I didn't come back. The majority of the recent updates and seasons in SoT have had a focus on pvp. Now, I never was one to shy away from pvp, but the focus on pvp and the introduction of stuff like hourglass seemed to bring in a lot of sweats and changed the meta of how fights went. Instead of being on a level playing field with almost everyone I came across, only really fearing streamers, now I'm scared of getting one-balled with every cannon that gets shot at me. And I don't want to have to grind out hourglass and learn all the new strategies just so I'm on a level playing field with the sweats that have seemed to infested the seas. I loved Sea of Thieves because it was an adventure. Every voyage was interesting and fun because I got to explore this world of pirates and legends. Yes, I ran into hostile people, I got sunk (a lot), and I was constantly watching my back. But I still had fun. Now, that magic seems to have mostly gone from the game, at least for me. One of the big things with the magic for was that there's an amazing story throughout the entire world that has wonderful worldbuilding, stroytelling, and characters. Now, it seems like Rare has almost forgotten about the story/lore side of things. I know Safer Seas isn't going to be a perfect solution, but I do hope it will bring back a little bit of that magic that I used to feel every time I hopped onto my ship and set sail. And I hope that other players who are in similar boats as I am will also start to come back to the game and hopefully dilute these sweat infested waters a bit. There's an amazing story throughout the entire world that has wonderful worldbuilding, stroytelling, and characters. Now, it seems like Rare has almost forgotten about the story/lore side of things. I don't like this trend we've gotten into where we're defending developers for not providing engaging content. We paid for the game, we pay for cosmetics, we pay for season passes. They're not poor innocent people who are doing a hobby -- They're doing what they are PAID to do. If Rare isn't providing quality content for the playerbase that has made their game what it is today, then they're doing a disservice to those players. You can put as much makeup on a pig as you want, but it's still a pig. That said, Season 10 has only been 'super' in terms of it being a 'super' lukewarm season. If server resources are truly what's holding back the game, I think it's time they got on the train like Final Fantasy XIV does every time there's a new generation console and put the scrap date on the original Xbox's that people played the game on half a decade ago. Remove the systems that are still supporting software that is crippling the development and optimization of the game, and spend the money on upgrading your servers. If Rare has the money to buy a solid gold skull and sets of silver keys for a public relations stunt that retained player attention for ONE month; surely there's got to be planning and money in the works to upgrade the server-side infrastructure. All depends on whether Rare thinks it's worth the money to keep the development of the game going, like you said it's about shareholders pockets and not our interest.

4:29 I feel like you're assuming here that the next update; or any update for that matter will be mutually exclusive from the Safer Seas mode. There is no rule that outlines that any content additions in the future have to be relegated to one mode or the other. And I believe that with the sheer volume of players returning to the game exclusively for that mode; Rare may end up relaxing or outright removing many of the restrictions that do exist within the mode. Further reducing the need or likelihood of future updates to be exclusive towards High or Safer seas. What Safer Seas has done is given SoT that 'shot to the vein' injection of players who were driven from or kept from the game due to the forced PvP and it's up to Rare to capitalize on that momentum.

i fell in love with sot back in the beta where there was no npc threats besides the skellys for oos all there was to do back than was collect treasure and kill skellys. but the thing that got me into the game was the pvp i will never forget my first fight against another crew, noob gally against noob gally missing shoots and fighting for 30min cause both crews were just bad, fighting over loot which wouldnt even be worth collecting today but altho there was no skill involved it was just plain fun, it was a type of pvp done in a way i never seen in a game before. i liked the world setting and the sailing felt incredible but it was the pvp that made me love the game. and that why i just cant understand why rare now implements savespace seas, they said no to pve server for years but after loosing many players to the constant content delays and just recycling instead of bringing anything new and exiting to the game they now go against their words in a despared attemped to push player numbers back up again. but all saver seas will do is divide rares resources for them to now having to work on 2 seperate gamemodes again (what they also didnt wanted to do anymore since it was one of their reasons for why the decided to close arena back than). save seas wont save the game and all those who praise savespace seas now will sooner or later reach the point where most of us longtime players are, the pve gets just boring and repetetive after doing it enough times and than those players hopefully go back to high seas (which would make safe seas wasted resources) or drop the game entirely till the next big content update. in the long run safe seas wont do any good for the state of the game.

I am no game developer but I do know Rare have the tech to put multiple crews together in other in a separete server from the main game world. if development in the main world is getting sketchy they should have reprioritize their efforts into what they are able to do. for example a Sea of the Danmed map expantion would have fulfilled the exploration side for both old and new players. 7 monthes of waiting for a lot of new menues is not the right direction in my opinon.

It's not so much that Sea of thieves is dying it's that YOUR sea of thieves is dying, which is actually a good thing. The facts remain that pirates didn't attack each other canonically in history so to those of us who truly know what "pirate game" means the game is just starting to get good with the safer seas add on Now all that needs to happen is for the 30% gold and rep rate for loot in safer seas to be fixed to 100% and for loot you take from OTHER PLAYERS to be set to the 30% rate and not counting towards emissary

I regret every minute I spent playing this game and Lethal Company is precisely why. It is the exact same premise, but faster, lower stakes, more fun, takes a FRACTION of the time and doesn't just boil down to soulless battle passes and patches meant to being you to the cosmetic shops. I see people talking about how the problem is that they don't add anything for you to buy... No, the PROBLEM is that the only fun you are getting out of the game is trying to farm cosmetics. The core gameplay is BAD. The mechanics are there, you FEEL like a pirate sometimes, but it's farcical; the game boils down to 6-10 hour stints where you do nothing but collect things, pray to god someone doesn't troll you along the way back, and then try to cash in... And for what? MORE cosmetics? An ever increasing pile that makes each individual one worth LESS? That's not "fun". The only excitement you get comes from occasionally outsmarting players trying to screw you over, but once you realize it's just catharsis over narrowly avoiding HAVING YOUR ENTIRE DAY WASTED, it becomes a lot less pleasant. This game was made to milk money out of you and I hate saying that because I love the art style so much, but it's true. The core experience is soulless, slow, and grind centric. I don't think any of that is actually enjoyable, people just get a dopamine boost from seeing their collectibles filled out, but then where is the end of that road? And if there is an end, what happens after you reach it? What do you ever have to do? SOT takes forever to effectively say nothing substantial where Lethal Company says a lot more in far fewer words. One wants you inflict you with FOMO so you spend money on it, the other just wants to provide a fun time.

They need to lean into PVE more if they want more players and money. actual pve servers with little to no restrictions, and then just make PVP servers have better exclusive world events that are worth fighting for. Fun pvp is ships fighting actual battles over high value loot, unfortunately 75% or more of PVP in this game is just getting jumped by sweats or brigs/gals when you're solo and having no real chance and even if you managed to win it has no point.

I'm starting to think 2024 will make or break the game. Season 10 was delayed the whole year and brought zero content. Then they threw us the skull and safer seas, but of those are such small content that they don't even matter. Next season is going to be another "system", and revamped voyages. But again nothing new. I hope it'll be good enough for the community, but the rest of the year needs to be packed otherwise they are going to lose the player base.

I say it could be worth it to have safer seas keep the current state of game for years to come and have high seas evolve in drastic ways. Like, remove tall tales from highseas and make space in the world for new mechanics. That could help alot. My hunch.

Here's an idea, what if they just made different maps? It would be a chore for rare, but if they could have say 3-4 versions of the sea of thieves and your server is just randomly one of the maps that could be a lot to add to the game. Like imagine having 100s of new islands to explore, each map would still have the same areas, shores of plenty devils roar and so on but the islands themselves would be different

Ultimately, just like every other "online" game or "Games as a service", Rare will have to make Safer Seas a full game mode. Every other online game in existence (minus games like Rust) have PvP and PvE servers, which provide the exact same experience in both server types. The only difference being, you know you can be "ganked" in the open world if you play on a PvP server. This half arsed "Safer Seas" they just put out will satiate the OG players (and new players) who simply want to experience the PvE content.....but it will only do so for so long. Eventually, players will want more money and rep (past lvl 40) and they will yet again venture out into High Seas, and will quickly remember why they left the game in the first place, and leave again. The longer Rare avoids making SS a full game mode, the worse the player fall off will be. Its like cheating on your GF, even if you convince her to come back, when you inevitably cheat again, there will be no getting her back for a 3rd time. She will be done with you for good. The same fall is coming for SoT, if they dont manage this situation properly....and swiftly.

As a day 1 player, the game slowly died with the seasons being pushed. Peak sea of thieves was 2019-2020 with monthly content updates. The fact its been over 3 years and the level cap has stayed the same for the trading companies is mind boggling along with hunters call not being touched at all. Every update, they focus on pvp but what treasure and goals are there to gain?? Hourglass was cool and the siren skull was cool but died quickly. We need more pve content, not pvp content constantly, that's the problem

consider the perspective of a player who doesnt want to PVP, at all. the people who do, and harass them on high seas, consider that harassment as a core part of the gameplay. the addition of safer seas doesnt actually exclude them from the new content, it adds content for people who only want to PVE. the people who want to harass those players (because it IS a part of the game in high seas) are excluding PVE players from the game in the first place. no longer having those players to prey upon, chance down, and harass might feel like a fundamental change to the game or an addition that excludes PVP players, but it isnt, its simply an addition that makes the game more inclusive as a whole. I can understand being frustrated that monthly content releases don't add any new items, adventures, or enemies for veteran players to face. the salt that safer seas is receiving is entirely undeserved and out of proportion.

What bothers me is that every update introduces new bugs as well, so the lackluster updates are even worse when it actively damages other aspects of the game. But also, the content hasn’t been great considering the delays. Guilds add no content and need like a chat or something for actual communication in the guild. Safer seas is also no new content. Skull of Siren song came out buggy and makes respawning of sunken ships a disaster, in addition to some smaller things I don’t like about it (and it’s not a big deal)

Every game that has both PVE and PVP has the same problems. I also play Elder Scrolls Online there we have the same sentiment. There are performance issues for years in PVP areas, problems with balance and lack of content. While for a big part of the community this has been a meh year for sea of thieves, for me and my casual friends this has been an amazing year. Safer Seas makes it so that I can play together again with friends who left after a bad gaming session streak. And I love the Tall Tales. They are hours of newly created and story content this year which gives me more fullfillment than filling bars and a stickerbook of commendations that does nothing mechanical wise to the game. The biggest problem that SOT gets stale after a while, is because Rare has refused to include actual game mechanical upgrades like XP that matters or a skill/specialisation tree, crafting etc. Stuff I would like to see in SOT someday: housing+decoration, map expansion (ice world) even if you have to go through to a portal if servers can't handle it, more story Tall Tales, crafting, new voyages etc

My pride and joy of a PC can barely push 120 frames at full cursed, console players are being left behind, and server stability has been down the drain overall. What I think the game needs. As an admitted filthy casual (But let´s be honest. That´s how everyone starts. I just chose to not move on) is. Communication updates: Maybe make all text commands translate into the player´s chosen langauge automatically? Remove the global servers and at the very least make English servers exclusive to those who selected it as a langauage. Pvp alternatives: Parley requests for those who don´t wanna fight? Add a "strong allience" feature where mutiny is impossible? Or just rework safer seas to actually remove player inflicted damaged to ship and players while still having the community feeling. Maybe place all the active hourglass peolpe on their own server. Hoenstly. Better tutorials. I have done most of what the game offers. And then I meet people who have played for years not knowing half of it existed. Because you actively have to look it up. Maybe a VERY SLOW but sure way of earning ancient coins? Maybe tie them to hard Hunter´s call quests and such? Heck. Tie them to active pvp. Would surely just attract just the sort of people you´d want. There´s of course always more. But it´s the first things I think about. Im just brain storming.

The network engineers are either bad or not being taken seriously. Maintaining the old servers is costing them more than the cost of upgrading to better servers. 5 years is well past a server's usable age when a higher amount of processing is required, such as gaming. It actually costs more using less efficient servers. Less energy efficient, paying for employees to maintain and "fix" things that they can't actually fix but only remedy, lower customer satisfaction which will 100% yield less return in sales in the emporium. Would love to see the game make a 180 but this time last year there were twice as many players. As much shit as I used to give Joe Neate, when he was on the videos and doing things, the game was better because he listened. Whoever is running the show now hears the players but doesn't actually listen. They are too proud of their ideas to allow the players help like what happened in Year 1 and 2, when the game was growing.

From my own experience with this game it seems like Rare has wanted to implement a more tangible sense of progression outside of cosmetics and levels increasing, with most players wanting something akin to a sort of Hideout of your own or something similar to having an owned space that's common in MMO RPGs. Another thing is that Rare needs to update the existing content within SoT more than other games would usually. Outside of grinding most people don't go near the Devil's Roar, and its well overdue to have an update for it, maybe an adventure, mystery, or simply updating the Skeleton Fort it has with a special event would be enough to get more people doing more within the game.

@@badmemesruineddreams6129 I am still playing. What I like is - even though I'm very bad at PVP - the tension that something unexpected can happen any time and you might loose all your loot. At the same time, you don't loose weeks of progress like in Conan Exiles or Ark, sonthe frustration is somewhat limited. You are right, the eastern volcana part is dangerous and visiting doesn't really pay off. I would like the ability to update ship and weapons to have some better stats... That would be a motivation to grind for gold. As I see it now, after leveling out all factions, there is only PvP left to enjoy the game. And you can always engage in PvP without any risk, so it will feel like Fortnite or something. Some hideout that other pirates can loot or at least the ability to really hide your treasures without lossing them when they assign you another server... That would be cool features.

This will be very long - TLDR: Launch game was the best game. A lot of players are asking for new content to keep the game fresh while I just want to roll it all the way back to launch. Honestly, launch was when I had the most fun during this game. Granted also the most frustrating period but still also the best. For me content isn't what I'm shooting for in a game. What I shoot for is playing the game and interacting with players. During launch the game was a battle pit where players would fight each other for HOURS over a regular fort. A REGULAR FORT! Ship would sink and it would spawn at the outpost and come right back, then other ships would also be involved and it was a multicrew battle royal with 3 to 5 ships all fighting for the loot that honestly wasn't all that much. This went on for months and months and months. People ALWAYS fought over the fort. This stopped when they started adding those weekly's story contents with the mermaid gems and the hungering deep and what ultimately killed it was the Cursed Crew Events. Which carried on into the Shrouded Spoils updated which made loot crazily abundant which made forts completely useless. Not to mention the change up in mechanics for player combat and ship combat. I miss how the game was at launch because that is when it was at its most simple. The combat mechanics worked really well before double gunning became a thing, the ship combat was clean but also didn't have a critical mass point in the fight. As long as you and your crew were alive, you could save your ship from ANYTHING. Supplies had to be managed and offered NO advantages to any one crew. There were only bananas and you could only have 100 planks and 100 cannons per barrel. Loot mattered because there wasn't a crazy abundance of it. I've talked to my friends about it and even they agree that the game was just so much simpler back then. Even rookie ships would do the fort because there was a chance they could get the loot or at least come back for it later. It was more advantagous to completing the fort then it was to steal it. With how the keys show up on the map players don't want to do the FoF because if they complete it then they have nothing when the PvP'er comes around the corner after waiting to steal it. The whole point was to get players TO the fort before it got completed because if someone completes it then they hide the key and it takes forever to find. If you sink them, then they only spawn an island over and come right back into the fight making it take longer which might end up bringing MORE people to the fight because they have a chance to get and hide the key or steal it from under the noses of every ship. One of the greatest moments I had in this game was my friend and I stealing a fort key under the noses of 3 galleons and another sloop (this was before brigs). I got to the island right as the other team took down the boss, killed him, grabbed the key, swam OUT to the water and as my friend navigates between the enemy ships, I grab the ladder and we slide right inbetween 2 closing galleons as we sail away. We go 3 islands over and we post up with some pop corn watching the other 3 ships fight for over a hour while they try to figure out who has the key. Eventually, they turned to us like something out of a movie and we got 4 ships chasing our tail lolololol. This was an every day occurance on SoT during launch because of how the game was set up. Losing brought no real disadvantage, Winning brought no real advantage. All types of crews fought over the fort because they COULD lose and still be in the fight. I know this sounds annoying to some, having to fight the same crew over and over and over because they just won't quit. I get that trust me, it happened and that was frustrating, but I would go back to that time instantly instead of what we have now. Chains are an advantage, cursed balls are an advantage, cooked food, pineapples. Every change they did the combat just further caused more issues. Every change they made to try and rebalance the game created bugs that have been around since the patch. The food reg? Was never a thing during launch. Bucket reg was never a thing before they fixed speed bucketing. Hit reg wasn't even that big an issue when combat mechanics were slower and more precise. Now when I lose its because I got back tracked, or i glitched through my boat (this actually happened during a hour glass fight. I was sailing and then glitched into the water as my ship sailed into the enemy broad and gets rekt), normally as long as I play it smart I can bucket and recover, but now I bucket reg and if there are too many large holes you can't recover from that. I was old vids I have of the game and I seriously miss the old game. Anyone who has played during launch that I know of agrees with me that the game was simplier and more fun.

I say all this season stuff is just free icing on the cake. We were never promised any of this when the game first released. I expected paid DLC, but so far everything has been free. Don't forget that this is supposed to be a sandbox game, not a hardcore PVP style shooter. People take it way too seriously, play waaay to hard and fast and then complain there is nothing to do when they're are past 200 in every rep. So yeah, there are going to be delays, so what? Is there not enough already to do? Savor the game.

Rare really just needs to fill the remainder of the map with new islands. Desert, jungle or ice theme them and it’ll be interesting again.

again, the only thing i've wished to see is a "overwatch 2" like update. granted i think they should take a much different approach in terms of announcing it. i think they should prolly add one last big update for the game before then announcing "This is going to be the final update for sea of thieves....because we're currently having a project that requires all hands on deck; we can't say right now what it is, but it is related to sea of thieves; Just keep an eye out because this project will be unveiled soon" They don't really need to be 100% transparent with us but some honesty goes a long way. And then they do what Blizzard did, take sea of thieves and pratically remake it on a new shiny engine and away from the xbox one, i'd prefer it was geared towards PC but if it's for the series X it shouldn't be a issue. Then primarialy focus on all the issues regarding the engine and performance so we can have consistent big new shiny things now that the engine isn't a mess and there is plently of space to work with. Furthermore i think Rare should at least catter to those who bought the first game and owned it before a period of time, those players should have access to a free upgrade to the new version while those who play on gamepass, things don't change much for them aside of maybe getting the veteran cosmedics

Well I think safer seas is something to get out of the way so they can work in other things. I also just got one of my buddies sea of thieves and am going to get back into this game
