Hi Chris….. it’s so important understanding your ‘why’. My ‘why’ is to slow down, be debt free, to prepare mentally, physically & spiritually for what’s ahead. To spend time in the Word and enjoy raising own foods. I like hearing peoples ‘why’…. thanks for sharing 😊

Oh my yes!!! That’s really what I wanted to get people to think about. We (the crazy homesteaders 😂) have a common attribute that seems to present itself in various ways. There is a definite, deeper spiritual connection that one has in this setting.

I suppose that I have always been fascinated with plants and animals; both gardening and animal husbandry. I find that the interacting with nature and working hand in hand with her bring me peace of mind. A meditation of sorts. Further, I know -exactly- what I and my family are eating. I have been gardening as far back as I can remember… Due to my location of living in a metropolis, my ability to raise farm animals is very limited. Still, I’ve managed to raise poultry and rabbits. Recently, I have started raising quail I find them to be equally enticing as the chickens and Muscovy ducks I have raised in the past. All the difficulties involved in the practice of these endeavors is well worth the effort in my view.

@@waydeepinside yes Steve! I (Chris) concur 100% It’s great that you’ve developed your growing capacity in whatever limitations you might have. It’s so easy to make excuses. But, like you said, the level of peace and satisfaction that come from using these skills far outweigh the effort, discomfort and sometimes frustrations that come with it. I really enjoy growing the garden vegetables from seed. It’s a lot of work. A sack of tomatoes is cheap. But they will never taste like one I grew and picked.

I actually do find the fact that not everyone obtains satisfaction from these types of endeavors as being a bit strange.
