Singaporeans do discover quite a few things, there are plenty of entrepreneurs too, you just don't really hear about them. Plus, due to the small population, it is normal that Singapore doesn't produce as many innovations as larger countries like USA, China etc. Just as a comparison, American is 60 times bigger than Singapore, so if you think of it, do they really discover 60 times more products/ideas that Singapore? Even if thats the case, Singapore is still in the process of shifting towards entrepreneurship/innovations, they are still currently mainly focusing on high tech manufacturing and service sectors that does not requires much innovation anyways.

So you wanna know why? Because our parents have the highest expectations that we can’t meet, like an “ A “ ( 75+/100 ) is a fail to them and an “A*” is a “just pass” for them and the only thing that satisfies them is “100/100” 😑 and tuition for ALL subjects. Struggles. And tbh not “ everybody “ is smart so

Nope, Singapore's education system is superficially great but massively and passively destructive internally. The streamings though may have been abolished, are largely cultural and have pushed more than the growing and exploring needs of the youth here. I've witness top scorers of >3.5 GPAs who are just bad at doing human tasking, communication and planning. This is where they learned from young to working adulthood that everyone must be the same (uniformity). Their excuses in dialogues; would be 1. I have the right to do this since i scored top marks. (arrogance) 2. I'm well educated so no one can or should criticize me. (self-entitlement & bragging rights) 3. I know more than you know (copy-pasting patterns) 4.Those beneath us should work harder and we are entitled to piss on them. (Discrimination to those unfortunate) 5. Failure is not an option, it is a shame (similar to hara-kiri) 6. I must get top score or people will stigmatize me. (Fear of criticism and moral discipline) 7. We are much better than other countries, so they can't outperform us. (underestimating brains) 8. We worked hard and brilliantly, we deserve this more (self-entitled without earning). 9. We should be proud because we are protective and less rigid (a lie unspoken and tabooed). 10. Life is hard so we work hard and play hard (but not do things smartly). The list goes on and on. Comparing the local schools to the other countries be it western or eastern. Singapore's education is better for a fact but...has too many shortcomings. The shortcomings are often poor optimal working conditions (studying is a work which is exerted by the brain, resulting in mental fatigue). The others being stress which is either manufactured or unnaturally aligned to human conditioning. The long hours, focused mental retention and lack of applications simply makes Singaporeans the best copy-paste makers in the world. Creativity is numbed through what should have been naturally there for many. It is judged on grades which is poorly reflected. Creativity can be manufactured but it wouldn't be what it is originally meant to be. Now i came from the streaming periods of EM3-EM1 and so on. The streaming itself was ideally a good way to classify those who are weak and stronger in other subjects. However, the entire concept was not accounted for its physiological and psychological impacts including discrimination, specified tailoring to only those good at everything and ethical dilemmas between parents and children. Think of it proper, we have the smartest kids yet why can't we achieve even our own products? Is the amount of subjects given by additional 4 modules early helpful for the young kids who are still hopeful but awaiting a nightmare to cage them up? Have we decided to become so smart that we forgot we had our own shortcomings and its something we knew yet ignorantly avoid actively? This is where i called the Singapore Paradoxical Dillemma Unable to determine one change to the other. Unable to move on and transition safely without considering the needs. Its these kind of small errors or poor upbringings that leads to bigger social and perhaps economic problems. The few but not all, who can handle these have become selfish and arrogant. The majority who thought they were safe and self-entitled have their jobs ripped by someone lesser than them. Are Singaporeans truly this desperate that they want to be NUMBER 1 in everything? Have we forgotten that being NUMBER 1 doesn't help much if we can't even manage our own problems proper? As vague and somewhat weird my words are. It is exactly that culture needs to be re-shaped rather than adding more and more. You don't fix a glitch by adding more glitches no?

This is why the suicide rates of teenagers are increasing in the recent years due to stress. They think by taking away certain exams like CA1 and replacing it with a Weighted Assessment would reduce the stress but it doesn't. It creates more stress and pressure Cuz now it weighs so much and you keep having self doubt and stuff. And that leads to depression and anxiety

Singapore aside, simply put, American culture does not venerate education and learning at a high enough level. The public schools don't need any more funding. Money does not repair the actual issue. The issue is in our culture itself. We revere leisure over learning. I am not necessarily being critical, although, I believe this is foolishness. It's just an obvious truth. Where will this culture lead? History will define that for us.

And now after 50 years the SG Government say that Singaporeans are not smart enough and hence the need to import talents from abroad to supplement the job markets. Agree that the job markets need diversification but the quality of so called 'Foreign Talent' is in many occasions questionable. Well qualified and well educated Singaporeans are being replaced by 'skilled' foreign talents simply because in general they are cheaper but not necessarily smarter. No point being the smartest country and pushing students to extreme stress and pressure and in the end look abroad. I would think South Koreans or the Japanese are smarter on the whole. They don't need to rely on foreign talents and their respective governments really trust their people to build the economy.

Education should be the same for all, Not justa selected few, sorry but if the IQ is 135 that means you don’t qualify and therefore you need to be taught as it was 1962?
