Sound is way better on this vid. Your last few ADV analysis vids were quiet but this is much better. As always the actual content of the video is superb.
here's to hope that its fellow type sharing bird Corviknight will have a peak just as high in competitive pokemon awesome vid btw, im starting to understand the complexity of this gen through this series, i absolutely love it!
Funny looking at this in 2023 seeing skarm all the way down at 6th. As someone who didn't really get into ADV until a few months ago, it's hard to imagine skarmory being so far from top 2 so recently (at least, recently by the stadards of such an old metagame)
I would love to see a vid that talks about all the pokemon who have small niches in OU but aren’t used very much, and what they’re good at vs. why they aren’t used more. Pokemon like Dragonite, Alakazam, etc.
Skarmory is op because it has the best physically defensive typing in the game, and it has an incredible defense stat and perfect support moves. That's it.
Unlikely man. Tauros really isn't very good I'm afraid. He has great speed, is strong and has intimidate, but requires cb which 1) makes sand a real issue, 2) makes his attacks much easier to switch around on with resistances. Both issues are compounded with how common protect is. He also can't switch in to stuff as easily as you'd like. He's definitely a nice poke vs offense but isn't quite as consistent as you'd like. That said if you're using Magneton offense then sure, go for it, the speed is nice for the 100s... you just have to be even more ludicrously careful of Gengar now. Anyway as you can see he's got a litany of issues and isn't used/recognized much in the meta so unfortunately it's probable he won't get his own video. When I make the video on the rest of adv it'll surely be mentioned though
Skarmory is historically one of the best defensive walls in pokemon. This gen is the peak of skarm( imo) with it gaining spikes and can abuse the polarising sandstorm while being immune to spikes. Having the 2 best tools in this gen of spikes and a phasing move with incredible typing and useable bulk makes it so obnoxious if used competently.
gen 4 was also a blessing for skarm by giving it access to rocks (that it often doesn't even use because its partners in crime, tyranitar, blissey and clefable all get the move as well), roost and a surprisingly powerful brave bird. So gen 4 skarm puts up a fight in that regard, but yeah, it's like the "golden age of the metal bird"
Skarmory and Mantine have the same stats, with only each the offensive and defensive stats swapped accordingly (Skarmory's Attack = Mantine's Special Attack, aswell as: Skarmory's 140 base Defense is equal to Mantine's 140 base Special Defense!) Just wanted to mention that. It's a Water/Flying type, one of the best types in the game as evident when looking at Gyarados - immune to Ground-type moves, Spikes and Toxic Spikes; while it also has the amazing ability Water Absorb. Special Water types that like to set up and/or have no reliable recovery? Bye bye! MANTINE'S HERE!! Non- and sometimes even HP Electric Suicune and forms of Gastrodon, Quagsire and Swampert? Get absolutely toyed with! Is Mantine a good Mon overall? Of course not. Whom will that stop tho? ME!?? You know the feeling you feel when you lose to a well-positioned Mantine? No? Well, prepare your An-... I mean, well then get READY
They're pretty much the worst. Luckily they're known to be idiotic trash...hopefully they'll be killed soon. Roar Tyranitar does really well, though, and leading Tar in general pressures them a lot. Taunt, Roar Zap, MixMence, Roar Cune, Metagross + BoomLax, Hera...it's really tough though, I feel your pain. Hang in there
What do you mean when you say that baton pass could be solved with tiering? Are you saying make ninjask uber? I agree, if only because it's so annoying.
How it'd be done is what's up for debate. The problem is full chains so I'm personally in favor of the rule used in the old days which is 3 bpers per team max, as you can still make a generally competitive team that way without devolving into fullpass nonsense
