God, did I love the original. Watch it every time it comes on. Mathew Lillard was amazing in it. Love how he kept throwing up the peace sign at his dad during that whole scene. Even at 38 I can still watch this anytime. Never even tried to watch the sequel cause it's obvious it doesn't have the spirit of the original.
I just turned 40, we were the perfect age to really love the movie when it was released. I haven’t seen it in years, I’m waiting for it to be released on 4k UHD by itself.
I feel you. I literally have a single criticism of the first film and that's its mishandling of Anarchy. No one udders a word about Stateless Egalitarianism or the rejection of Unjustified Hierarchy. They touch on the idea that Anarchy in its truest form is a non violent ideology. Im sure the An-Pas kids loved that. But mostly they talk about chaos which is mid 70s anti- Anarchist propaganda. Honestly that might even be a moot point. It's a movie about Xers. Gen X never seemed to care about Anarchy. They liked the word but didn't try to learn what Anarchy really is. Like was Proudon out of print in the 80s or something?
Well the 2nd wave of punk often referred to as hardcore punk had allot of Spanish revolution type so called anarchists........AKA communist who did preach & practice from an authoritarian point of view on allot of social issues instead of a Stateless Egalitarianism society.
@Kronaphasia I feel you. I grew up in the hardcore scene. I was literally at Agnostic Front show a few months ago and Yes, there were a Lotta tankies and red/browns back in the day. But all the Anarchists I knew were Anarchists not secret commies. They were all about: Autonomy, Egality, and Equity like an Anarchist should be. But the problem with SLC Punk is that there version of Anarchy is closer Pseudo- Nihilism. You need to have hope for the world to be Anarchists because you need to believe in a world where things are can get better.
As someone who used to have a 7 inch mohawk, here's how you get that wavy balance... Wash it, blow dry it, gel it up (not too much), let the gel dry, brush the gel out, hairspray it in place. 12 hour shifts in a factory in the summer heat with fans constantly blowing it, and it never fell out of place, but got a lot of compliments on how it waved a bit in the wind.
Glad I wasn't the only one. I tried to watch this a few years back after watching the first (also not knowing the backstory and MGK being in it). I got about 50 min in before giving up. I tried to have an open mind but goddamn it was cringe.
I watch SLC 2 a week ago, I wish I would've just kept ignoring it like I had been for years, I really shouldn't have watched it. It just made me sad, like were never going to have another movie on the same level as the original SLC. It's hard to describe why I love it so much it just feels like something connected to my soul, the characters, the music, everything about it makes me so happy. SLC 2 is just sad, and extremely boring, also MGK makes me want to eat a shotgun.
I saw it free on RU-vid One night when I was in heroin withdrawal and couldn't sleep. I'd rather go through the withdrawals again than see this movie a second time.
This is equivalent to the director being in a circle with a few friends saying “hey…. Let’s go get some beers”… Friend 1: can’t man…. I’m broke, what about you? Friend 2: I’m tapped out amigo… hey man you’re the big director where’s all your slc punk money? Director: “I spent it all ya dick, but hear me out….I bet I could write out a sequel in a day or two, not only that but it’s been long enough to play the nostalgia card I bet I could make fans actually fund the money for it!” Then 80% of the money went to machine gun Kelly to mess up the movie and the rest went to…. Well…. Whatever you wanna label it
I remember being in high school and thinking that it was insane that they made a “movie about punk rock.” Back then punk was a very cool movement but it was very elitist. There were all these rules like you can’t have any ties to the mainstream, you can’t be on a major label, you can’t wear certain brands etc. Once I saw it though I absolutely loved it, and it was an indie movie. Glad I never saw the dog shit sequel. I loved “heroin bob,” great character.
SLC Punk is such a classic. I’ve lived in Utah all my life so it holds a special place for me as well. I actually just watched it again a few nights ago with my hubby who had never seen it. We went to a few of the lesser known locations where some scenes were shot. I haven’t been to Wyoming in some years now… but when l was younger my ex bf, friends, and l would drive up there to buy alcohol, fireworks, or both lol. So many people used to drive up there to do that. It’s cool they chose to include that into the movie.
Yup, or stop in that first town in Idaho (forgot the name) for scratchers. I swear, it didn't even matter if it was bum fuck nowhere in Wyoming, coming from living in salt lake, I felt even that place would give me culture shock sometimes lol
Man. So right! The movie is a nightmare. All the old characters are lame concerned parental figures worried about Rosses lame road trip. It's like the made for TV version of SLC punk. And it's like all of them forgot how to act, and the director forgot how to make movies. It's like a has been reunion at an old folks home. All they needed is slide whistles in the background of the head shop scenes. Oh no, Ross is drinking, and has woman troubles. Wwwwwwwweeeepppp!
You know one sequal I was if'y about that actually turned out pretty good and had all of the original cast? T2 (Trainspotting 2)! The original one will always be better but the sequel was right behind it. Check it out if you haven't.

The real reason SLC Punk 2 failed is because it relied on the worst cliches of goth music & doing it without any sort of humour dark or not. Also FWIW the year (1986) SCL 1 was set in was mid point in goth music & tail end of hardcore punk's first movement (2nd wave of original punk)....................but the director fudged the era timelines to make it more appealing to a younger audience that picked up punk well after its beginning.
Yeah, I've seen it once. I thought Bob acting as narrator was kinda cool, mainly because I wanted to see that actor perform the character again. That said, the movie was crap. I remember some tweets between Matthew Lillard and Devon Sawa about the sequel and it didn't sound like they even contacted ML to see if he wanted to be in it.
This movie introduced me to two very important things. Punk rock and anarchism. After delving deeper into leftist politics this movie fundamentally misunderstands Anarchism, but as the weird kid at belding, Michigan middle school itsll always hold a special place in my heart.

To be honest, I didn't know who MGK was prior to or after this movie. I watched it and thought he was just some actor they hired to play the part. It wasn't until i watched it a few days ago where I saw the credits and realized that it was him in the movie. I don't know what his musical status was at that point, but I don't think it was something to worry about. Eminem dispatched him to pop music lol
Was anyone else takin aback with that whole molestation scene? That random shit, as well as immediately after where he randomly starts confessing his love for her, is what just showed me how poorly made from top to bottom this was. The whole movie has glaring problems but these stood out to me the most
I didn't even know they made a sequel 😂 I've learned to come to videos like this before checking out new movies I hear about....I feel like it's saved me from some 💩 shows and introduced me to movies I probably would've never even seen....this ain't one of those movies though lol..much like the dumb and dumber sequels you can't rewrite chemistry.. steeve-o and heroin Bob were amazing characters. I cried like a kid who just saw his birthday gifts thrown into a dumpster when Bob died..."I wasn't ready" cuts me deep everytime.
Didn't know they made a sequel until watching this video right now. I do recognize the voice of the director, though, from the DVD commentary on the original SLC Punk. He must of just made the sequel for the money
It failed because it wasn't as good as the first film - not even close. Also pretty much nobody even knew it came out. It had no promotion, no major release. Had nothing to do with MGK. His music is pathetic but he's a competent actor.

I just saw this on one of the streaming services today. Like you mentioned, I loved the first one. I actually contributed to 2 in that campaign, but never saw the movie when it actually came out. Life gets I'm the way. I did see the trailer and that kinda killed the hype for me. So, I sew it today. And yep, punk sure is dead. That movie sucked. Nothing good about it outside Rancid tracks. The first one I can rewarch anytime. This one.... one and done. Shame.
I saw the second one in a detox clinic trying to kick dope back in... Idr, there was lots of those. Maybe 2017-2018? Idk when the movie came out, and I had no idea Cream Butt Smelly was in this movie. I had no idea who he was back then (I was a homeless addict, I missed a lot of stuff that I'm still catching up on lol). I remember seeing that movie , the bird's box, and how it was called the scariest movie ever, but I didn't get it, and come to find out, machine butt smelly was in that one too. Oh yeah, SLC II. Idk, I thought the movie sucked. It was wicked boring, directionless, and felt like a bunch of squares putting on a crappy, Indie film student, Broadway play with no real knowledge on the subculture they tried to impersonate (oh there we go. It was just a huge impersonation of something).
They actually tried to get Matthew Lilliard for it and he wanted way too much money. I met him a few years after to get a copy of the original slc punk signed for a friend who owns a punk rock bar but was in the hospital and he was a TOTAL sick to me the whole time making fun of my clothes I men I dunno if he was trying to be a character or just be a general asshole to me but point taken I hated him after that
It’s hard to judge someone from one encounter, maybe he was playing the steve-o character because you wanted that movie signed, maybe he was having a crappy day and just was bad timing. Maybe he really just didn’t like your clothes and he’s a very straightforward guy. They always say don’t meet your idols could be a case of that. What exactly were you wearing that he made fun of? the movie wouldnt have been "that bad" if mgk hadn't been in it. i watched it the other day and made the mistake of looking at comments mid way to see that poser pip squeek was in it. the rest of the movie was ruined. it wasn't a good movie by any means but it was almost watchable.
I always loved slc punk, but when I heard there was a sequel made, I automatically knew it would be trash. Now that I hear MGK is in it, its double trash. Some things need to just be left alone. Good video my dude, you got my sub.
SLC Punk was the point in your punk routine that you became a poser or remained a punk rocker. I stayed in the scene but it took years to watch that movie again. Idk wtf this other film is, Idc.
The director ruined it. Can't blame mgk for this travesty. BTW. I despise punk music, don't agree with any real punk I know. I'm friends with many. But as a teen I truly enjoyed the idea rebellion and spiting my parents. This new movie captures none of that. It's like writing 1984 part 2... it cannot work.
