Big Boss's files becoming declassified is a nice fourth wall break for acknowledging MGS3 was released. Also don't quote me but I believe files become declassified after 50 years, 1964-2014. The years of MGS3 and MGS4. It's a backdoor cover for gameplay evolution but they did a nice job with it.

Always like how they kind of make an excuse for it and put that in the game.

Not to mention during development Kojima wanted to make mgs more based off real life military combat scenario and used tactics based off Japanese and Korea Swat cqb to then have the whole staff go through basic training, he was well ahead of his time

Only the Cell processor and Blu-Ray drive could grant Snake CQC abilities

CQC is pretty badass, but I still do love those crazy Karate/TKD kicks he'd throw in MGS2. The sheer velocity of that hook kick is like a car crash.

The real answer is that Kojima didn’t have the idea for CQC until MGS3, which technically stars Big Boss rather than Solid Snake.

Freaking LOVED the concept of CQC. It was a little flashy but quick and effective in the game. So awesome

to everyone saying Venom was the one training David, in MG2, Big Boss tells David to switch frequencies. that's where the switch between BB to Venom could occur. after that, Big Boss only tells Snake bad advices in order to try and get him killed

Snake was definitely using cqc, even though miller called it cqb in mgs1 n mgs2. He could choke till knock out or snap neck and judo throw. Also could punch n kick while in msx metal gears he only punched. Thats due to hardware limitations

Remember the basics of CQC folks!

The real reason is because cqc wasnt designed until Snake Eater 😂

This is why MGS4 is the best game ever, also because of these explanations which go deep into the relationship that Snake had with his father, and the respect he has for him. It moves the player deeply in the core. We can also see Snake paying respect to Big Boss in the intro and in the outro, he chooses his grave as place to die. Also in chapter 2, when you have to track Naomi, Snake says that he's not good in finding trails because "he's not Big Boss". But what Snake didn't know is that he became better than his father, indeed in the end not only he managed to defeat him and all the other enemies, but we can basically say that Snake is the clone of the "good side" of Big Boss, his recessive genes, the ones that led him to act as a hero until MGS3 (because Big Boss changes already since Peace Walker), and Big Boss acknlowledges that and respects Snake back "If you were in my place back then...maybe you wouldn't have made the same mistakes that I did". The two guys have basically gone through the same traumas, but Snake kept being a hero while Big Boss eventually sold himself and his comrades. This is why MGS4 is amazing, and this is also why I loved MGSV, because that game shows the player just that, going deeper in Big Boss' betrayal and selfishness, without trying to fix things like many Big Boss fans hoped. This is also why MGSV has been hated so much. I wonder why some players play games if often they can't even understand a story which is perfectly explained in every chapter.

This was a pretty cool explanation of why Snake never wanted to use it.

...Well if CQC in gameplay is just punching, kicking, grabbing, and throwing an enemy soldier, then Snake totally had it in MGS1.

I get this wasn't in earlier games as they probably never gave it mu h thought. But that minute of conversation was well written. Makes total sense and when snake uses it he just embarrasses his enemy. Can't wait till October. Also currently play through MGS4 on emulator and I am absolutely loving it. As always keep up the amazing work

Kojima is the master is coming up with convenient story explanations for more simplistic game mechanics in previous games

Close-quarters combat, punching, kicking, grabbing choking and throwing, where in MGS1, not that fancy like in MGS3 but was a feature back then

i mean definitely head cannon here but i’d assume that snake uses cqc in outer heaven (mg1) but not in zanzibar land right? i’m pretty sure the ‘betraying his unit’ is a reference to his betrayal in the msx series, not him abandoning the US after snake eater

funny… replaying mgs3 rn and cqc was in game the game. SOLID snake first used cqc in mgs4 SNAKE uses it in mgs3

They could've just said pressing circle repeatedly in MGS1 was using CQC all along By the way, using Twin Snakes footage is cringe, even MGS4 shows stills from MGS1 (and even a whole playable level...) when it comes to showing flashbacks from that game

Id rather they just say that primitive tech made his cqc look ass i always assumed he was using cqc in mgs 1

I heard that the reason there were no bullpups in MGS4, was because of the CQC animations. They couldn't do it for programming reasons. Also, this is just a guess, but in MGS1, maybe there was no CQC because they didn't want to go down the motion capture route. It was already ambitious enough as it was.

I prefer the style Solid Snake used in Twin Snakes more personalized.

I wish I could’ve gotten into metal gear solid 5 because I love the series! It’s always been my favorite! But the series, just kept getting more and more stupid with anime elements, and I’m not a fan of anime

Given that they don't really do much to define CQC technically, this really comes off as Otokan asking a man who regularly did shit like kick guns out of people's hands when he learned to fight. Solid Snake has been diaplaying skills that could easily be interpreted as CQC since the beginning of the seies.

SPOILER ALERT!!! The truth is, Venom Snake is not Naked Snake. He was Naked Snake's medic, but the chopper explosion erased his memory. After a nine-year coma, the medic underwent facial reconstructive surgery to retain the appearance of his mentor. Venom Snake, officially known as Ahab, would escape the hospital with the real Big Boss, now known as Ishmael. Naked Snake faked his death and went into exile, but Venom would eventually learn the truth and carry out his legacy, such is the tradition of FOXHOUND. Venom would be defeated by his son, and his successor Solid Snake, and pass the mantle of Big Boss on to him.
