There are some people who love long distance cardio. For others, cardio is mind numbingly boring. It really has to do with your neurological profile, but what exactly about the neuroprofile causes this difference? Listen now to find out more.

I'm part of these people who love cardio, and I never thought about it that way, but that's true: I can spend 40-50 min just running on the treadmill and it won't be boring because I have so much stuff to think about at this time, and as the blood circulates faster when you run, it's actually the best time to come up with some new ideas or plans.

But I’m telling you I would rather stick needles in my face than do that. Your descriptions made me laugh! Type 1 matches me perfectly 😅

That explains so much. I used to do alot of cardio, and enjoyed it. It relaxes me so much. The part about thinking during cardio is so true. The only reason I don't do it anymore is the concern of losing gains, since I've been lifting. I also have no interest in competition, only in self improvement.

Same here. Can’t lift heavy everyday, but crave some sort of objective (not necessarily competition always, but sometimes) and love Hiit cardio/interval work. I can’t max on strength, but I can during explosive interval work. But I hate steady state cardio unless I bring my phone w me and watch Netflix, but love hiking and taking walks. Idk 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve been thinking after watching these I’m somewhere between the very low-end 1B ranging to the 2A, all the way to the high end 2B. Just not either extreme.

I'm a life-long anxious person (at times it's debilitating) but I find strength training to be calming and cardio over about 30 seconds to be irritating and draining, with the exception of 3 mph walking or slow bicycling. With strength training I can either let my mind wander or be present and focus on every detail, depending on my mood. But a medium or long cardio session leaves me feeling tired and feels like wasted energy.

Omg. Love this clip. I’m an introvert with chronic pain secondary to ehlers danlos syndrome. I love doing MISS cardio. It’s meditative for me and helps my chronic pain levels due to endorphin release. This is the time I use daily to watch RU-vid videos, phone calls, scheduling, emails, research, reading, etc… I do about an hour in the morning and 90min in the evening. Also do full body strength training 3x/week.

I'm an introvert and I HATE every second of a run over about 100 feet. It's simply a miserable activity. But I can walk for hours or go for a long bike ride and it doesn't bother me at all. Walking is so relaxing that I don't even consider it to be cardio. But even 5 minutes on an elliptical trainer or rower feels like an eternity and I count every second until I get to stop. #CardioSucks

I understand what you are saying and agree with it in principle. However, I also think there can also be an ebb & flow. What I need during each day might be different. I have always enjoyed cardio. Cardio was always a mood regulator for me and still is. But I see it more for brain and heart health. Having said that, there are some days when I kind of don't feel like it. With resistance training there is an amazing sense of achievement, a different kind of enjoyment. I enjoy both in different ways. Thank you for your presentation. it was great.

I'm introverted, very quiet, and love routine, but also adventure as long as I can have a fair amount of control/predictability/safety. I usually see a lot of possible dangers, where most people seem to see fun. For example, a tropical beach and blue ocean and coral reefs. Well, I think there has got to be sharks everywhere, even if none can be seen. Also, what if there's something lurking in the sand, or what else is there in the water? This stops me from doing a lot of things. I'd be somewhere off to the side or in the background observing. My first sort of athletic activity was running (of course). I didn't get bored doing that activity at all. I stopped running, though, because of an overuse injury. I then learned running for long distances is prone to overuse injuries and so I don't see it as healthy at all and I don't miss running for long distances. I overused a quad tendon and that was very annoying: tendinitis (hint: rest will make it worse). Otherwise, I'd still be running races, I think. However, my steady-state 'cardio' of choice now is walking, which I do see as healthy. I can do this for hours and not get bored at all. This is indeed because I am the sort of person who thinks up stories all the time, such as imaginary girlfriends, hahah. I walk outside the gym. To me, a treadmill is artificial and thus not my cup of tea. If I were to believe in its effectiveness of, say, becoming more healthy, I'd for sure walk on a treadmill and not get bored. Even if the gym were to be devoid of people and deathly quiet, I'd still run or walk on a treadmill and not get bored. Now, as you will probably see coming, I HATE such activities as a typical Crossfit WOD. Anything that gets my heart rate way up is something I don't like. When I first started lifting weights, I started doing so under the eye of a personal trainer. That was fine. It was slow-paced and highly controlled. I questioned the exercises and worried about how to execute them perfectly before even doing them. I then went on to join small-group training, and I dreaded it. I hated every second of it. Since, I have never even took part in something like that again. I'm also by nature highly anxious and particularly in social environments. Your description makes a lot of sense and I now think my character is not like there's something terribly wrong with me per se. Maybe there is, but it's more common apparently. As I do suffer from my own worries and such and am very susceptible to an increase in stress, I had myself tested, and I went to psychologists. I may have this anxiety thing in a strong form. Anyway, as this is the internet, I'm not going into full depth here, but I got to hear it's Asperger's Syndrome, but only after another psychologist said I'm not autistic, just socially anxious. Well, I guess everyone could be stamped with some sort of label or other, definitely if you keep looking for answers; and it sure pays for the psychologists and whole industry around them. I never went on medication, but this was recommended me a few times. It is big business to label people and have them swallow pills and be a victim. I love strength training, which I started doing myself right away after first encountering it courtesy of that personal trainer. I decide what I do, how may times, how heavy, and how. I am told my execution of the lifts is very good and that I seem to know exactly what I am doing, as I always bring a book and pen and have things thought out in advance. I wish I had discovered this much earlier in life, like in high school, which is when I was bullied for being weak and different. I read books and went to catch frogs and newts after school. Looking back is easy and 20/20, but I can picture a story in which I learned much earlier to take care of my body, to challenge myself physically, to persevere, and to build some muscle. The things I learn lifting weights are perfectly applicable to the rest of my life. It's the same principle: set goals, have a plan, be consistent, change the plan when necessary, keep learning, do the hard stuff to grow mentally and physically, et cetera. It's too bad most of the so-called fitness world is filled with ego-tripping and douchebags and just general stupidity. This is also why I can't yet picture myself working as a personal trainer, because I have zero interest in lying to people and making them do stupid stuff, which most trainers are dooing, I am convinced of it. Even if they may think they're helping, in most cases trainers are just making their clients move a bit, get them into a sweat, and have them feel good about themselves; and that's fine, okay. It's just not what interests me. Also, really good gyms are very hard to find. Most gyms are money-making machines and cater to the lowest common denominator and deliberately want to keep it like that. Maybe I am overthinking again... End rant.

I am the typical chill out, confidence guy that loves extreme and contact sports and used to hate cardio. Yes, it could be 2 min running and I started to want to kill someone. One day, watching philosophy videos I saw one video talking about the taoist meditation. It is a meditation that begins like a mindfulness one and you try to imagine that every stimulus that comes, like an sound, it is something positive. In the first session I was surprised that my brain transformed the sound of a motocycle accelariting into a sound of someone laughing. At the end of it I was extremely happy. Then I tried to apply this prínciple to cardio and worked so well that I started enjoy it. It is like a challenge to trick your mind to be happy in a really disconfort situation. But I still prefer doing HIIT and sprinting :)

Psychotherapist perspective: I don't think this is true at all. Introverts and not more anxious/stressed than extraverts, there are many cool chill introverts in their heads. Extraverts need stimulation, they don't get over stimulated. Physical stimulation is processed the same as psychological stimulation. Cardio is highly stimulation, makes deep thought harder, and it's for a prolonged time... Extraverts are more likely to endure cardio, Introverts are more likely to hate it. That's my theory and personal experience.
