Calling the psp a failure in any sense of the word is misleading. It outsold both the 3ds and, using the upper estimate sony gave, the gba. The psp may have sold less than the ds, but it was certainly not a failure
Ikr, I didn’t have one when I was little and I always felt like I missed out. Now that I’ve got a modded Vita I’m finally able to go back and play all the stuff I missed out on
Sony was already the leading titan in the home console business and Nintendo’s strengths have always been in their handheld systems anyway, so Sony coming into the scene and still selling about half the amount Nintendo’s best selling handheld ever is by no means a flop especially for a company just breaking into the handheld scene. The true failure of Sony was simply in how quickly they gave up on the PS Vita especially in a console generation that they stood ZERO chance of losing in. It’s honestly quite weird.
It failed to meet sales expectations(Sony, the press, and analysts expected it to dominate the same way the PS2 did) and the software attach rate was really bad(the point of consoles isn't so much the devices sales itself, as they are sold at a loss, but the money they get from game sales)

No it wouldn't. You ignore the the reasons why the vita failed. Modern games take a massive amount of money, time, and manpower. Making another sku that basically demands the same commitment as the home consoles will have developers ignore the platform and just focus on the PS5 versions of games as it's too much of a commitment to make another sku for their games on a platform with a smaller, overlapping, install base. On top of that a mgs machine doesn't move units, mgs is a multiplatform franchise and it's exclusive titles(and price) that motivate consumers to buy whatever consoles they do
@31 gamers are consumeristic pigs now bro, besides sony just has to make it have good features and different varsities to make it stand out and appealing. Stuff like linux support, dev mode, old and new sony exclusives would hit the market hard. Make some third party games available as a single digital purchaes and it be a must have. edit: another exciting feature would be an all out track pad vita instead of right analog.
internal storage of ps vita is a joke and micro sds are overpriced af. only reason the 3ds was popular is cuz of the games but even then you didnt had the second joystick or you had second joystick that was big like eraser on a pencil. also most of the games actually look way better on vita than on 3ds.i feel like now its good opportunity to make new portable handheld for sony since people are getting very interested in them in general.
