SONY made a personal, wearable air conditioner for the 2020 Olympics that you HAVE NEVER SEEN. They expected to sell millions. Was the product a failure or just bad timing?

Sony executives have no idea how well this would sell in the US. Especially in the south with the brutal summer temps. I have just ordered one on eBay. It will be mid July before I get it. I get extremely hot and uncomfortable along with many others. Sony would struggle to keep up with demand. I see the battery is just under 4,000 mAh. I have no problem running a cable down my back into a small battery backup that is 8,000 mAh. That will give me all day power.
I agree, I have no idea why they haven't brought them here yet. All those silly little acs that don't even work, this one actually does. Seems like a huge opportunity they are missing
@@SilverCymbal I wish I had resources to help me design something similar. This invention would make someone a lot of money. I would make mine with a slightly bigger battery, and the ability to use it without the need for an app. Basically all it is, is a fan blowing over peltier cooling plates. It's so simple, but very effective.
They chose the next because your veins are close to the surface there (like your wrists) so it’s the ultimate spot to cool a body down. Like they do between rounds of mixed martial arts and boxing.
I could give a bleep about the heater, even in the Inter-Mountain Pacific Northwest. I am EXTREMELY happy & interested in this product. Having heat stroke at least 3 time, exhaustion 8+ times, etc., I have a screwed up heat/cooling system. Even when I was shoveling and blowing snow yesterday, I was drenched in sweat & quite literally steaming hot at 34° temps. Thank you very much! I may have finally found a form of relief!
I’’m extremely interested in this product, as I can’t stand the humid heat in SE Virginia,. It’d be perfect to do all the garden chores during late Spring/Summer.
I’m curious... how did you get the app for your phone living outside Japan. It won’t let you download the app to use it in the United States. You can’t operate the a/c without the app.
Thanks for the review! Does it only work when in contact with your skin? Can it reduce the temperature of your surroundings, eg if your chair retains heat and you wanna cool it down, would it work?
They were on Amazon briefly but gone now, chec ebay I have seen them there for much less, even as low as $100. Still expensive but it's definitely a one of a kind item from a real company.
You have to create an account on the Japanese app store, its free, download the app then go back to your old account and it will stay on the device you loaded it from the Japanese store.
@@SilverCymbal I was born in Falmouth hopsital and grew up on the cape. We had a boat in the Sandwich marina for decades and still have a house down there. I go down from time to time to visit the family. You got a great channel. Hope all is well and stay safe through this wackiness.
I’ve been wanting this since I heard about it but I haven’t seen it available. I live in Israel and die of heat every summer. This is a dream tech. Where can I get it from? Is Sony still producing it? You didn’t exactly answer that title of your video? Did it really fail??? Maybe they didn’t market the right regions! Thanks
You need to logout of the US store create an account on the Japanese store, free no credit card required. Download it. Then you can go back to your US account and it will still work. I didn't see this shared anywhere and what I just showed you took a ton of time to figure out so I hope it can save you some.
Here in India I'm sure they will sell like hotcakes despite consumers being so price conscious. The heat with or without heat wave is already too painful in most parts. 40 degree centigrade is the norm for at least a month. I wish it had a slightly bigger surface area but I would assume it would mean larger battery. If there's a way to put battery out of it, that would be even better.
You have to create an account on the japanese store with a different email address, its free, download it. Then once the app is on your device you can switch back to your us account
@@mihalyshilage5826 LUL but a fan moves air, whereas a conditioner removes heat from air and vents it somewhere else removing the hot air from circulation reducing the surrounding temperature. Looking back on this video it seems very unlikely that this would be practical in a pc as the hot air would have nowhere to go other than right back into the PC, but the question wasn’t (entirely) stupid lol
Thank you about the video but for the cooling /heating it's more than that these use the peltier effect so they actually get cold & hot. I didn't want to go too deep into the science of this in the video but you can read more about it below. While this effect isn't new what is impressive is how Sony was able to make a device do this and be this small with a battery. See more here: ii-vi.com/how_do_thermoelectric_coolers_tec_work/
meh who cares about the heating? Heating yourself up is easy. The big engineering challenge is finding good ways to cool people down. Sometimes it's hard to escape the heat...
it didnt fail they are on the reon 4 now which means they must be selling well enough because sony drops things that dont sell well like a bag of shit but here we are on the 4th model
Seems like they didn't consider women when designing this product, especially since the tee shirt designed for it is very masculine looking. Plus, wouldn't you think you'd feel even hotter having to wear another layer under your shirt? If they designed it with women in mind, and a way to wear it without another layer, such as that tee shirt, I'm sure plenty of menopausal women would consider purchasing one. Just saying :)
