Why Splatoon 3 is SO GAY 

The self-expression capability in Splatoon is great. There's nearly endless possibilities from only the three gear slots alone, and when combined with everything else there's almost quite literally infinite possibilities. It's a quite robust system, and that's a big part of the charm of the game. I can be literally whoever I want as long as I have the gear pieces.

Note: You can customize Agent 3 regardless of whether or not you've played Octo Expansion and linked your Save Dada with Splatoon 3, but you can only do it in the crater and it's rather hidden. Also, Captain 3 isn't actually mute, with Marie constantly relaying things to Neo 3 (explicitly saying "oh Captain 3 said so-and-so") and such (which makes me wonder why they didn't just make Captain 3 talk if they were gonna consistently have them use Marie as their spokesperson)

Fun Fact: In Splatoon 3, Captain 3 isn't decided on past games! (Same with octo expansion tho if you did play the original that may sway you a bit) While still in the crater if you go up to Cuttlefishes lil tent you can see a drawing of 3 he made and it allows you to change their look- So my captain had the more masc hair Just wanted to put this here :>

You can change captain 3’s appearance, if u go to the zap fish plush you can return to the crater and you go to cuttlefish’s tent and change it from there

Captain 3 is just a blank canvas for people to add their personality to. They are supposed to be you. Just like the other custom characters in the game. My Captain 3 22 y/o straight woman with her boyfriend being agent 4. So it really doesn’t matter, as all the characters are whoever you want them to be. That’s what i love about splatoon

The very concept of Inklings & octolings, is like relatable to nonbinary people, probably not intentional, but the idea of being a shapeshifting squid person, where things like gender is purely expressive. Is like very appealing ..

splatoon has had the most accepting fanbase ive ever seen in terms of outside the game. As someone who never really played many multiplayer games growing up (s3 being my first step into pvp actually), its still frustrating from time to time after only playing games like pokemon and other pve's. but knowing that on the other side of the game is someone like me and just has a sheer love for this game, makes all my gamer rage worth it lol. ik its not pride month anymore but happy pride anyways, great video :)

The main reason Agent Three has they/the pronouns is because you can customize them to be a male or female. You can do this in Octo Canyon by interacting with a poster of Agent 3. Your character is also not specified to be male or female to be more accepting of LGBTQ.

honestly i disagree with the fact that when you come out you have to be as over the top about it as possible, you had a pretty good reason but it just isnt true. its totally valid to be completely chill about your gender identity and/or sexual oreantation. you CAN be over the top about it, although you might be a bit annoying. just saying that was a bit of a misconception. nice video tho!!!!

I love Pearl and Marina, their relationship is so wholesome and I love customizing my octoling based on OCs and a new self insert who themselves are queer.

Also note it doesn't have traditional communication methods like other shooters do. Smaller in comparison, but you're far less likely to get called a slur for, say, having a feminine voice in a game that doesn't have easy access to synchronous spoken communication, which makes it friendlier. You can turn off voice in other shooters, but there is sort of a standing expectation that voice will be on, where there isn't such in Splatoon.

I love splatoon cause it so gay. I love the plaza posts w lbgtq stuff on it, it makesme feel more happy knowing others like me play that game. I love knowing how acepting the community is. I love all the customizing options. I love the gameplay. I love pearlina. All in all I love the game

As far as im aware the only ship in Splatoon that's both straight and doesn't involve player characters whose gender can change is Hironika 😂 and that's quite possibly the smallest ship the series has unless there's one between manga characters.

(Accidentally wrote a whole essay whoops.) I absolutely ADORE Splatoon. I’m gay, trans, and autistic- Splatoon happens to be my special interest! I love the idea of a world where you can just… be whatever. The recurring theme (especially in the third game) of free self expression is so beautiful to me. AND THE MUSIC. OH THE MUSIC. I just love this franchise so much. I love seeing that being fruity and nd is a lot of more common in this fan base than I thought lol. Sure, there’s a lot of weirdos (and people who just hate gay and autistic people who are pretty much the majority of the fandom what’s up with that) But it makes me happy that there’s so many people like me here too. Even the characters. I fell in LOVE with Callie and Marie at first sight. I projected onto them HEAVILY lol- As a kid, in my mind, Callie and Marie were always Asian-Latina, Callie had ADHD, and Marie was autistic. HEAVY self projection, sure, but for some strange reason these characters made 10 year old me feel so seen. And, yes, incredibly cliche, but as an envy I heavily project onto Shiver. Technically uncanon, at least in the American localization, but the idea of a cold, sassy, vigilante enby character makes me so happy. As soon as i heard Harmony refer to Ryan as “they,” I felt like it wasn’t real- was I dreaming? Surely they wouldn’t… but nah, it’s true! I then heavily attached to them even though they’re an incredibly minor character. And Acht! Acht makes me so happy! I love them. This franchise has and will always be a part of my soul. I’m always ecstatic to meet someone with a similar interest in Splatoon.
