This makes me want to make a bulky hazard team with perish song. Not sure how realistic it is with all the legends running around, though.

Wolfe Glick got second I believe at a Worlds during gen 5 with a perish song team. Don’t underestimate it!

ill try my best to add to the idea a bit and maybe another can finish it up you could mainly use the toxic spike hazard, and have a few fighting pokemon, to help get rid of normal and steel types that can learn rapid spin, and make sure most of your pokemon simply have protect, fly, dig, wide guard, reflect, etc, to keep blocking, and kill your opponents with poison, maybe a steel type we just need 1 more person to make the ideal team, and fix up my mistakes

In theory it would be very cool but perish song would only be used as a worse whirlwind or roar. Perish song would be used as a tool to pressure mons to switch out but why use perish and let the opponent switch on their own terms and in a specific position when you can just force it out? Also perish song won't ever prock in this team

Stealth Rock could have seen some use in Series 12 with Charizard, Shedinja, Incineroar and Focus Sash mons in the meta but unfortunately there were no real good non-restricted setter in the format (because obviously you want to deal hard damage with your Groudon, Dialga or Necrozma)

I messed around with Mudsdale and he honestly can tank anything but a Kyogre and if you don’t have an apparent weakness policy stamina combo people fake it out or just ignore it which is why I run inner focus. He was a consistent rock setter. Rocks plus stab high horsepower and inner focus kinda shut down incineroar

You say but in double ubers my dialga with trick room stealth rock eq and protect does hella work. (Remember this is a 6v6 format so there is just more opportunity for stealth rock damage and with focush sash calrex shadow being so dominant as well as yveltal it brings a lot to the table

The distribution of stealth rock is rare and you want it on support Pokémon: too bad regileki, whimsicott and gtimmsnarl don’t have it

@@lawtonadams4235 dialga in vgc was an auto lock for dynamax sweeper and rarely even flexed trick room onto its set.

The pokemon limit to 4 per team also means there's less switches to be had, so you would on minimum number of switches in VGC only get 2 instances of damage with a hazard, versus a minimum of 5 in singles so even if the opponent doesn't switch in on super effectives you're doing more than double the damage per hazard and that's not even factoring in how good the non damaging hazards are in singles, who needs tailwind when sticky web is basically free priority

given incineroar's overwhelming usage and it's reputation for pivoting I'd think that trainers would look for every opportunity to limit it

That does make sense at first, but then you realize that even incineroar will come in maybe like 3 times in a game. Due to how short matches are and the fact that one of those will likely be the first turn before rocks are up, you could do way more than 50% damage to that slot, whether it’s by setting up or just eq’ing, that the rocks would do to just incin

Imagine this scenario, you see I have incineroar on my team and use you first turn to go for stealth rock, while I double into your partner and knock it out, you’ve just completely lost momentum in order to set up something that will deal damage the 2 or 3 times I switch a Pokémon out this entire game. It isn’t worth it.

and then, there is this fact that the incineroar is a lead pokemon, which goes first, does its thing and leaves the scene. its presense on the field is more important than its average HP, which would keep it alive until incin's teammates pick you up.

Also games are much shorter and so you won't have that many opportunities to force a switch, or benefit from the enemy being dissuaded from switching.

also, because 2v2 so much more offensive oriented since you can double on a single mon, the chip damage from stealth rocks is not as valuable as an actual attack or support move

I hope in scarlet/violet hazard moves deal damage when used like in Arceus especially since Hisuian (Decidueye) pokemon are able to be in it

Only pokemon that could hope to do this is Glimmora with Toxic Debris. Even then its hidden ability, Corrosion, is a better ability by a long shot

@@TheDreadfulGhost Thanks for the tip! I appreciate the info. I'm still not sure that setting hazards manually in a 4 v 4 VGC doubles format will be a good use of a turn. It'll be cool if these new methods become popular but I don't really see the move "Stealth Rock" itself becoming popular in a 4 v 4 VGC doubles format. Looking forward to all the cool stuff you mentioned though!

Yeah, Kleavour and Samouratt-H are definitely going to see some use when they are brought over. Also the mon with the ability to set-up toxic spikes by getting hit is gonna be insane.

The fact that they had to add an entire item just to prevent damage for one move is pretty telling. Especially since there was the whole period where literally every single Pokémon on a single team would run boots.

Haze was super niche. Used on Murkrow sets back in early Scar/Vio to counter Tatsu/Dondozo.

Dont even bother with hazard teams in Gen9. Iron Bundle, Roaring Moon, etc all obliterate either way. Its just silly what the competitive scene looks like right now

If you’re referring to singles then hazards are currently in their strongest state since like pre Defog. There’s no defoggers and hardly any rapid spin users in the game and with the offensive mons and ghosts in the meta game it’s so hard to get rid of those hazards once they go up. Hazards + strong sweepers basically makes anything die outright.

I used it during the no dmax format where incin/rilla/tsareena were everywhere. Not nearly as effective because rilla was rampant and grassy terrain sort of neutralizes stealth rock but at least it makes gettjng rid of incin easier.

Takes too long, poison in general is practically never used, if you want status your time is much better spent on para for speed control, burn to limit their damage output or sleep cuz sleep is busted, all 3 have much much more value when matches are so short compared to doubles
