Being an employee who's required to wear a uniform myself, I can agree that it takes the stress away from people to decide everyday what to wear. If you decide to wear a same dress everyday, your colleagues start judging and wondering why you never change. With the concept of uniforms, that's never a problem.
@Danilo what I meant is if you really want t wear the same thing over and over you shouldn’t think about what people dm think about you so that you won’t be influenced to buy or wear different clothes
I've done that a few times in New York but was soon discouraged to repeat. In the corporate universe people think you didn't sleep in your own place. Even underpaid secretaries are expected to spend their paycheck on rags and they can't write-off the expense. Disgusting.
As an IT intern at a company, I wore the same 2 outfits every week as it is all I could afford at that time. I got teased. Just shows it doesn't matter what you do, it's who you are that matters most to people. This is why I work with computers and not people.
I work with electronic devices but also with people and honestly I do not care for the outfit. I mostly care on special occasions, meetings or when a dress code is required. Its not about the outfit, its who you are and what you do.
I believe it's because of his minimalism. It's a lifestyle where people own stuff that meant a lot of value in their heart and because of minimalism, it helps someone focus more on the important things in life.
Minimalism in terms of the clothes you wear is bs. Clothes do not distract you from the important things in life. Some people want to express themselves through style because that makes them happy and it is completely fine. We all have different passions. Steve Jobs was simply not passionate about style or fashion.
Jobs was a perfectionist which can lead to minimalism. When you’re picky about the details and have high standards your wants, needs and purchasing decisions changes.
Steve is stated as saying he wore the same thing every day because he didn’t wanna waste time thinking about what to wear every day. He claimed it was wasted energy to do this and that it could’ve been used in other ways in his life. So he chose the outfit that you see right now.
He was a very simple man and after he returned from India where he spent a lot of time and where he learned not to be attached to material things . He was in the creativity field he was a genius working day and night to create and shape the future of humanity .He liked to dress casually . In California young people were dressed casually .
$270 plain black turtleneck with some "elite" brand/signature on it doesn't do it for me. But $10 plain black turtleneck which will disintegrate in the laundry doesn't, either. Because we all know the _Despicle Me_ tight grey turtleneck is the best way to go!
Only the clothes. Not only that boring ‘creativity’ stinked, but probably also his same clothes stinked. And black... sure, the color of death. It is still ‘fashion’. What a horrible world.
🇺🇸 The money of the American contubuable + the benevolence of the rulers + the help of the Pentagon + the support of the devout followers = the incredible story-telling of the world champion of TAX FRAUD. 🇫🇷 L’argent du contubuable americain + la bienveillance des gouvernants + l’aide du Pentagone + le soutien des adeptes dévots = les story-telling invraisemblables du champion mondial de la FRAUDE FISCALE.
nah i see this as over love towards his money his mission is to abbandon his self and his family to make even more money whats te point of saving money if it would take you more than 10 years to spend he money you can make in 1 week ? tbis is the same as mark zuckerberg they never give their selfves reward for their hard works they will rather use their money to make more money and forget about everything important to be a happy person
@@Wasnt-1 Jobs didn’t want to make money the only thing he wanted was to create revolutionary products. If you read his autorizza biography you could also notice how he regret his orribile human being. Also he wore all days the same outfit for 2 reasons: 1) He wanted to be Apple’s icon so he started wearing the same clothes to be immediately recognised 2) He didn’t care about fashion it was secondary for him. Hope this was helpful to you and to the others reading the comment, don’t hate Steve :)
@@mrkschbrg139 even steve jobs says few dahs before he died that he realized he dedicated his whole life making wealth instead of family bonding and taking care of his body he even says eat your food as your medicine causs if you dont youll eat medicine as your food which clearly make it more obvious steve jobs has fully abbandoned his self and his family inorder to gain more recognition and more money
Things that are quality & LAST too! I'm Sure those Jeans & those turtle necks, Never get, old, Never go out of style really,...Classic, even faded, still classic!
Yes... but he wore the same colored turtle neck. Why not white one day? Why not blue another day? The point the video was making was he wanted to create an iconic look as the CEO of Apple, much like how the Sony workers' uniforms gave the company an iconic look.
I worked at an Apple store in the early 2000's. We were given black turtle shirts with the Apple logo in the left sleeve, to wear as the uniform for our store. We were asked to sign an agreement that we were not to wear the shirts outside our working hours. I still have the shirt and wear it on occasion.
I’ve heard that Albert Einstein had a closet full of the same outfits. The reason being that he didn’t need to expend any unnecessary thought on what to wear.
If that is the case, you can have ten t-shirts in different colors and pick one every day without wasting your precious time because you give e damn to fashion. BUT if you buy a black t-shirt, you're following the nerdy trend.
One of my friends who is a huge Steve Jobs fan, after his death in 2011 she wore his outfit for literally two months straight because she was so devastated and depressed at the time. She’s an English teacher and the funny part is A lot of her students actually followed her. Obviously every day it was right in my mind where I don’t think about it, he was truly the greatest Genius of our time.
Einstein did the same thing to stop having to waste time trying to figure out what to wear. Also, one can say of the Japanese, they are a "lock step" country. Mind you, I can see the advantage of having employees wearing a standard outfit at work. It cuts down on having to choose what to wear, it does build a team mentality (if done right) and depending upon the work, the employee does not have to buy work clothes.
The folk lore is that he did not want to waste any mental energy choosing clothing. He was notoriously focused. He would sometimes greet his managers with “how many things did you say NO to today?”.
Greg, if there’s one thing I admired about Jobs was his simplistic attitude to life. I like that at my employer even management wears the same uniforms as the regular workers. It helps with team cohesion. (: Good video as always sir.
I did the same thing about 10 years ago at my workplace. I took a page from charlie brown and homer simpson. I settled on khakis a polo shirt (black/blue) and chuck taylors for the summer time and black jeans and a gray sweater and chukka boots in the winter time. I even took a poll around the office when I decided to go this route to see if people approved and to vote on the outfits. I don't think they expected me to last 10 years with the same outfit but I showed them.
I admired this so much in him, very much how I admired it in George Carlin wearing all black in his later years during his last specials. It’s a symbol of mental transcendence and overall awareness I think, not wanting to waste time and energy in picking an outfit to wear everyday.
Nothing wrong with that. Once you find a statement/signature outfit that gives you good social feedback, stick with it. Those good experience will remind you from all around and help boost your confidence. Because you know it works
The clothing was about image and we already know that Jobs was totally obsessed with image. What I will forever wonder is which original ideas were truly his. The more I learn about him, the more it seems that he stood on the shoulders of truly talented engineers and visionaries and stole the best that was theirs. With that kind of thrust, and with due respect to this departed executive, even pigs can fly.
Well, considering how much good ideas he had, he was truly visionary. But nowadays... look at Rocket Jesus (= Elon Musk).... He is literally MUCH WORSE than any CEO or boss, he invented nothing, and the few ideas he had are literally useless and/or a scam, just to get attention and thats it.
Define "really busy" Cuz we all have 24hrs in a day. However, what we chose to do with those hours will vary. Therefore its not about time, its about priority. We all have the same amount of time to do what we please
When I’m on holiday I wear essentially the same style, it’s comfortable, practical and whatever I pull out for the day will do without having to think it through
Just because somebody says something doesn't mean it's true. Just because even an outfit becomes "an icon" doesn't mean it's worn everyday for those who will actually take the time to look at all of even the Apple things that Steve Jobs was involved in.
Jobs did a similar thing with his cars, replacing his given car with the exact same model and color several times. First a black Porsche 911, then a silver Mercedes convertible. I’m not sure when he started doing it, but with the Mercedes, at least, he had a deal worked out so he got a new car every six months. This allowed him to drive a car without any license plates, as California had a law that said you had six months to put permanent plates on a new car. I’ve never seen anyone confirm exactly why he did it, whether he was just being a petty anti-authoritarian, or he had some other reason, but it was probably more the former.
I would be worried people would think I never changed or washed my clothes (or myself). But I did like the Steve Jobs look, it was iconic. I listened to a RU-vid male "minimizer" who wears similar outfits every day, and he says it removes waste time and mental energy. He saves his decision making energy for more important stuff. Job's would have liked that.
There's something missed here: how does it benefit him? Okay, it's iconic. You know it's him. But as a creative, what would benefit would it provide? There's been discussion elsewhere, but in short, it decouples any need to expend the energy to think about dressing to put it into far more (to the individual making the choice) beneficial endeavors. It's also been said that the act of "putting it on" creates a mental modal shift to begin 'the work' or to 'create'. But on a very simple level, having the same means not having to think at all about it. He made a very elegant effort to explore it and developed something he could be comfortable with and then he was done. No more effort needed to decide what to wear, giving him time to develop Apple.
We didn't plan it, and we don't work together, but my husband and I both wear a black t-shirt, jeans, and boots to work every day. No one has ever said anything to either of us. Sometimes we get fancy and wear band t-shirts if we go out, though. Those are usually black, too.
People like Jobs recognized that having one less choice to make everyday will take you closer to your goals. The choice of what to wear is superficial and a waste of perfectly good time. Time is the rarest commodity and priceless. We all need to look into our lives to assess how we waste our time. Will this take me closer to my goals?
Simplification, I have a buddy that has 100 of the exact same jeans and 250 of the exact same shirts, underwear, and socks. 10 semi formal and 5 formal outfits. He does laundry once every 8 months.
Jobs is dressed in dark blue for water and logic and black for the cool night sky, the White/Silver Apple stands for the Moon/Star Light. In essence, Jobs is dressed as a sort of cool beatnick embodiment of Knowledge and His product is Apple - from his tree of his knowledge.
A $175 shirt? That is insane! And as much as $450 resale? What is wrong with people? I have three pairs of matching cargo shorts that I wear every day. One in the laundry, one I'm wearing , and one in the drawer.
Still don't get any answer as to why does the "Apple Explained" channel changes logo too quickly. I mean, why don't you have a consistent branding for about 2-3 months?
The thing is bc of our history and what has happened before, we don't wear the same clothes every single day, bc we get associated, with being poor and boring, which does show that if something, major happens to a large group of humans, it becomes almost like an instinct, to either mock it or appreciate it.
‘Everyday’ means ordinary, mundane, commonplace. It’s an adjective. You don’t mean ‘everyday.’ You mean ‘every day,’ which means each day, all the days.
