When I think of Megaten I definitely think of Ouroboros from SJ and Beldr from Devilsurviver. Both are pain.

I started playing Nocturne and SJR simultaneously; SJR’s story is so much better than Nocturne or any other SMT (and Persona) game I’ve ever played. Thanks for the video, nice content

My first SMT game was the original DS release, for better or worse I'll never forget the gruelling years long journey to finish it, spanning multiple computers, emulators and a couple lost save files. I'm pretty sure this was the game that changed the way I approach challenges.

I'm playing this game right now, I have 4 sub apps that work very well together: 1. HP Recover 1 Restores some of your own HP whenever you walk a set distance 2. Lunatic Allows you to converse normally with demons during a full moon 3. Hayakutaro Lowers the odds of the enemy taking you by surprise 4. Relax Spray Allows you to smooth over one mistake during demon conversations it makes the entire game a walk in the park since you never have to fight unless you want to, even on full moons

I loved both the remake and original of Strange Journey. Can we get a 3d HD remake of Megami Tensei II though. That game is extremely underrated and one of the best megaten games of all time. Imagine a remake of Megami Tensei II looking like SMTV. I'd be going crazy over that.

SJ Redux was my first smt game, and was a ton of fun ; been chasing that high since with smt4, p3, 4 and 5 but nothing has gotten quite to the level of fun of being dropped into a demon-infested shitpit and being told "deal with it - or else".

I emulated SJ on a school pc to survive the boring computer science classes.

Id really like to see a more diverse megaten like strange journey again, i think its really fucking cool as a hispanic man and the whole environmentalism thing was something really interesting im gonna replay sjr and get the 2 other normal endings but strange journey is quintessential first person megaten, i cant decide between it and 4 for my favorite game ever

Now this makes me wanna finish my 2nd run. I already did the original chaos ending now I'm on the neutral path but tried to clear the dungeon for new neutral. I might just go and finish the original neutral then.

I understand people being worried that the game might be made too easy by the new additions but there was a reason why people called the SJ protagonist a vending machine, you were pretty much useless through the entire game in the original. There's a lot to love on SJ but my favorite will always be the dungeons, besides looking cool as shit each one has a fun and unique challenge. The quests are pretty underappreciated too

1:00 Damn and this was my introductory game to SMT 10 years later and I own just about every Atlus game published since 2000 and a handful of the oldest titles as well, the lore and the atmosphere are what instantly hooked me but the difficulty is fucking real had I not been so obstinate about playing the game I wouldn’t have beaten the game lol

Just clawed my way through Oraboros (Luster Candy is an absolute unit of a skill). This game is absolutely incredible! It's my first mainline SMT and I'm very excited to see it though. Awesome video!

I just beat strange journey, ( i like to google opinion videos on games I just finish beating) I had played smt 4 and persona 5 before this game and I loved it. I played the og version and I found the last boss to be the hardest fight. It was really fun! The main gripe I had was that coming from smt 4, I didn't really enjoy the main battle track for this game, but besides that, it was a blast. I'm moving on to try Smt 3 next.

Idk I didn't find Ouroboros too hard when I fought her a week ago. The first few attempts I had trouble and got her to 20% HP once with lucky RNG, but then I went to finish up the Womb of Grief stuff I could and wrecked her because I got a Luster Candy mutation. I think she spams Disaster Cycle if you get any of her stats to -4, rather than using Dekunda like other bosses, so maybe don't do that, unless it's just RNG that made me think that. Resistance to things other than fire doesn't matter too much because you should be using fire anyways. Final boss seems scarier though, I'm in the middle of preparing for her on Neutral

I remember I was angry when it got released because it WASN’T “Shin Megami Tensei 4”! Lol. I love “SMT IV” and also “SMT IV:A” (even though that final boss is some Atlus bullsh*t. I steamrolled everything in that game until the stupid end boss). And I really like the Quality of Life improvements in the 3DS re-release.

Great things about Strange Journey are these 1) no "Japan center of the world" problem -this is more of a refresher in other SMT games it is always Tokyo at the center of things like in DESU 1 God locks off Yamanote Circle what about other Countries then you decide fate of Humanity you ought to include whole world or how in Nocturne it is Japan deciding new world I understand it is Japanese game no issue there but it is refreshing to see that change there it is worldwide crisis so crew is from different Countries and MC is a military badass no Highschooler 2) surprise -in Antlia you fight Morax standard thing just a Boss in Boots there is Mithras who loves to experiment on human after that is Orkhus who literally ate the ship you can hate Eridanus all you want but man is that anticipation great "what they will throw at me now?" 3) Voice Acting - many hated the fact that there won't be English Dub but that turned out to be blessing in disguise becaus Japanese Voices are a dream come true for a JoJo fan half if not more characters are voiced by JoJo's bizarre Adventure cast Arthur for example is voiced by Takehito Koyasu fricking Dio Brando what else do you want? 4) balance - game mechanics such as Sources and Command skills really lift up the frustration plus this game is great in dificulty spikes it is not as Merciless as Devil Survivor or weird like SMT 4 where at the beginning you are weak but in the mid-game you kill everything

Hot take but Strange Journeys infamous difficulty comes from its exploration and map layout not the combat, the actual combat id argue is one of the easier non persona megatens. Demon Coop makes the game easier because it inherently makes random battles easier. When you encounter a new enemy with press turns there’s always a chance that you might miss your attack and lose turns or accidentally trigger an enemy drain or block, lose all your turns and lose the fight, demon coop has no such issue outside of a small handful of demons with tetra or makarakarn. If you miss or trigger a block in SJ what always happens is that you just take some easily healable damage an move on, there’s no snowball effect it’s really not that punishing. Random battles in SJ are a complete joke outside of some obnoxious demons here and there hell you can straight up auto battle your way through half of em without much thought it feels especially since Physical Demons feel stronger compared to other games in the series most likely to compensate for the new battle system (crits can’t activate demon coop after all which clearly had an effect on balance) and unlike press turn it’s not like the enemies can use demon coop against you so there’s no more of that interesting “enemy plays by the same rules you do” gameplay too. You can honesty straight up ignore Demon Coop too as it’s actual effectiveness decreases as the game goes on giving diminishing returns, you simply can’t say the same for press turn. The only exception to this is maybe the fiends and some optional bosses (non mandatory content lol) and ouroboros who’s one of the only bosses that utilizes demon coop in an engaging way by being a dps race. plus since maaca is a non factor in the game due to analyzing and forma farming you can just spam mitamas until your demons are at a way higher level in stats. Serioulsy you can get an absurd amount of maaca in the game in no time at all

Is the original sj worth picking up? Liked the remake but I wanna go through it again.

I’m 10 hours into Strange Journey DS and haven’t come close to dying yet. No demon passwords, no grinding. I died in SMT 4 on the 3rd random encounter after a failed negotiation. Not convinced SJ is the hardest at all

Excellent video, my man! On a slight tangent about SJR vs the original: The biggest problem I have with SJR is that Alex is fundamentally linked to the new endings. I fucking hated Marie in Persona 4 Golden and they just *had* to do the same thing in that they made an obnoxious character vital to new content. I really love the idea of Shekinah, but I *cannot* get on with Alex as a character in SJR no matter how much I want to.

Imagine them making a rererelease just cuz it's atlus, i want to play this masterpiece but i neither have a DS or 3DS so i just hope that happens i guess.

Strange Journey was the last good SMT game for me. I prefer the original, but Redux new endings its way better and the Womb of Grief was a blast to explore. Amazing video! (sorry for my english)

Coop is a neat idea but doesn’t feel as central or interesting as press turn. Coop damage kinda falls off past 1/3 of the game and by the end it’s like the game forgot about the mechanic entirely since it only scales off of STR which is a major oversight basic meaning any magic demons are useless for coop. If they had another game use demon coop I can see being improved but I doubts that’s ever gonna happen

I love strange journey,but i dunno it's not that hard,it's kinda easy besides that fucking final boss that honestly is one of the hardest in the series,but besides that i think it's a very begginer friendly game,must of the stuff that makes smt a hard pill to swallow was the clunkiness and wtf design choices of the older games like smt 1 for example,most of that stuff is absent on SJ, making it a fun game almost the entire time
