This is what an awful lot of people will end up riding in the near future. Not so good for the elderly and disabled. With thousands of battery’s being charged overnight in flats there will be lots of fatal battery fire incidents, but I suppose saving the planet is worth it. 😐
@@Mezman999 Sounds like you need to make your mind up about who needs saving more - the 8 billion and rising on this planet in general, or the 10% house fire fatalities due to electrical faults, of which battery fires are a smaller portion. Ideally both eh? Let's have some investment in education about battery care (not to mention regulation of manufacture) maybe and the rest will follow.
It doesn't get people into cycling for real! The electric engine can do most of the muscle work. Besides it has a ergo-anatomic problem: you can't set the height of its seat, in order to pedal without hurting your knee joints' structures and without shorten your lower limb muscles, on the long run. That means, the taller the rider, more tiring & unconfortable it will become to pedal unless the person only resorts to its electric engine. Cheers!😉
Thanks for the entertaining video. In the USA this frame style is called a scrambler or cafe racer, also known as retro ebikes because they resemble the Schwinn Sting-Ray model from the 1960’s. Some call them mopeds, but a true moped has a gas engine. A Cruiser style, aka Beach Cruiser, looks like what you might call a “Dutch” bike but with fatter tires (not to be confused with a 4” fat-tire ebike). The principle difference is you can pedal a Cruiser but the ergonomics of Café Racers are usually not comfortable for serious pedaling.
I ride a little 14inch ebike with some mods. .. I get stares, random convos, people take out there phones... I even been caught on a local Livestream lol... Ebike's are siiiiiiick! 💯😁🤙🏾
Instant sub. I love my Super 73 S-2 and quite enjoy checking out all the different models coming out more and more and frankly I could watch you talk for three hours about the origins of the shoe horn I wouldn’t care you’re like a living sunny day, even in dingy London.
People are social creatures. I live in central VA, USA and have several Studebakers from a 1953 truck to 1963 Cruiser, a 1977 Wagoneer, and 1992 Subaru SVX in my fleet, along with more mundane dailies. Several times a year I get stopped by cops who just want to check them out and chat and have a random person come up to me probably every third fill up because they don't know what it is, know someone who had one, have always wanted one, etc.
I do love the minimalist design, there's a lot less wires than how I've customised my Mate x... I was looking at building a custom Super73 but this looks like a great alternative for a base bike to start my next project
I want one of this style with a big range, could be a cool utility bike that could even lend itself to some rough cycling and lightweight camping gear to disappear off into the wilderness. Cool af.
Just watched the vid of the guy in the US who modified a similar design to go along disused railway tracks. Surprisingly handy I reckon! His has a like a 100mile range IIRC. I tend to dislike designs where you can't stretch your legs out properly but these things seem like a different creature where you accept a different approach. Interesting!
I didn't even realize that she was riding a bike 😳 really I like the little more now than at first..that would be a great little bike for young people...she done a good job 👏 👍
Love the look of a cruiser bike, so cool... unfortunately I'm sixty five later this year so I think it might look less cool with me on it 😂 If it had been called the 149 or the 279 I might have been forced to get one though as that's the number of the buses I used to drive way back when they were both rear platform with conductors on the back! Those glasses are a great idea, being an ex-bus driver I always need to know what's in my rear view and that's the one thing I find hard on my e-bike even with mirrors but....do they make them for spectacle wearers?! Your videos just keep getting better Eilis, well done.👍😌
Don't sell yourself short old man I bet you would look great as anyone would riding this bike. I'd ague that this style of bike is better suited for older people as it's such a comfortable riding experience and has a classic refined look that screams British. I'd say to book a test ride before you make any more presumptions but wait for some better weather first.
It looks cool, but how repairable is it? Can you get replacement parts at any bike shop or do they have to be special ordered in from the manufacturer? How adjustable is it? I mean it’s obvious the seat won’t adjust to accommodate longer or shorter legs, but what about handlebar height and tilt? Can they be adjusted to fit differently sized riders or does the rider have to adjust to the bike? Personally I’ll stick to bikes that every bike shop will have spare parts for. My step through granny ebike might be boring looking but I can add baskets, parcel racks and child seats if needed. I can get replacement parts and servicing at any bike shop and it’s easily adjustable to fit every person in the family who might need to ride it.
My thing with nearly all electric bikes is cost and security. These things are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Yet most come with next to zero security. No built in trackers, no remote disabling, no alarms no anything really. With so many bikes being stolen, especially in the capital, most of the current offering leaves a lot to be desired imo.
Get e-bike insurance and a good grinder resistant u-lock like the Litelok X3 or Hiplok D1000 and you will be fine. Not cheap, but still a fraction of the cost of a car or even using public transport.
Love the cruiser bikes. A nice laid back fun bike. Looks much better than the 345. If I remember correctly your 5ft 10. How would a 6ft 5 rider fit? The seat doesn't look adjustable? It is a fair weather bike as it doesn't have mudguards. Those tyres are gonna throw a lot of water up. Proper job!
Great memory! You might be alright as a 6ft5 rider (hollar at my fellow tall people!) The seat isn't adjustable but you can push yourself back to accommodate those longer legs. You're definitely on the taller end, though!
I have one like that different brand but iam 6.2 lukely i have a trothle. Without one you get pain in you're knees in 45 minutes so if you want one take a test ride first before buying one
Might be nice to make a helmet that could take a rear mounted Raspi Pi with camera, and a small screen HUD. Aside from just being able to view behind, it could gain smarts to give audible warnings of approaching vehicles, add additional flashy stuff to alert drivers of your presence, signal your left/right turns, etc. It could alert you to accident prone spots, help route you to better streets,... Would make a great addition to the accessories list.
@@Electroheads :( Not available to me in the US. It is usually the other way around. The US gets the better bike and you get the restricted slower version.
yes 2 up one could pick up girls for joy rides they would sell millions - I used to have a big fat tired bike and the amount of attention I got especially from girls
I test rode a Super73 OG and experienced the same. Ended up buying a Fiido M1 and two years later people are still asking me if it's electric. Like you said I can see them looking and looking and then they comment on the tyres and it's really quite positive. Sometimes people want to talk to you for quite a long time when you want to go home 😆 🤣 😂.
I had my Newgen 345-S delivered on Monday. It’s the most amazing piece of kit, so happy with it. Just praying for better weather now 😂. Very helpful customer service at Newgen too. Thanks Santi 🙌🏼
Got my newgen bike last week 345-S. Been riding on the road legally as I entered the code in the settings (hold the menu button and go to the extra settings then it asks for the code) I reduced the speed limit to 15.5mph and disabled the throttle so now it is legal to ride on the road and bike paths. I can always change it back whenever I want which is nice.
6:05 a shotgun XD i like how that man thinks lol. my only concern i guess would be the lack of seat height adjustability. im only 5'4 and like 120 lbs so im curious what the ride comfort would be between someone my size and someone like 6'4. very cool bike, and video! thank you for sharing ^_^ 💕💕
Thank you so much for adding imperial mileage statistics,so weary of mental math formulas to get a better idea of range while watching these e-bike reviews.🧐👍
Lol - I'm enjoying the description of utilitarian grey primer as 'beautiful colouring'. To be fair if I was getting one of these I would probably go for that colour.
Good morning from sunny Thailand, Why not put mirrors on it?. I have a Bafang BBSHD powered mountain bike here in Northern Thailand. It is just great to get out into the mountains around here and simply see absolutely no one. Besides, it gets me out of the way of the gran kids. The bike you are reviewing. Looks a little like a Raleigh Chopper. But not for me. Too slow.
Interesting design and just wonder how it is to ride and how comfy it is never mind those massive wheels and the amount of rubber with the friction. Reminds me of a bike from the 70/80's that looked similar but without the electric assist, you had to pedal and it wasn't light as I remember trying a friends out but it looked like a motorbike but was pedal powered.
Style wise I'm sold. I can't help wondering how one of these would deal with hills though (especially the single speed version)? Also style wise I might be being thick but the elctroheads shop doesn't seem to have the option of choosing frame colour or the mentioned larger range version
The moped style ebikes are better left on the flats. The 750w Bafang hub motor is very common on premanufactured ebikes. However, this moped style does not have an adjustable seat, one size fits all. That means for taller riders you either need to stand on the pedals or have an awkward angle for pedaling which makes it difficult to add your full human power to the mix. There are also many ebikes of this style with a lot more power and range for the same or less money. I'm not sure what's available in Europe, but for £2600 ($3200 USD) you could get a moped style ebike with 2 x 1000w hub motors and likely a larger battery. For $2000 USD you could get a 1000w hub motor moped style ebike. If you want to climb hills direct drive hub motors (the Bafang 750w is geared) can handle gobs of peak power given you have a battery that can supply it. Another route is converting a bike with a mid-drive conversion kit most commonly from Bafang or CYC that can utilize the rear gearing on the bike and deliver up to 5000w depending on the model.
The more things change the more they stay the same, this is a suped up old Huffy 😃. Looks like great fun! But gentle fellows, that shelf really should be gauged to tote a sixer.
I get looks when I ride my Fucare Gemini. In my area of the US commuter bikes are rare. On the weekends I see road bike snobs so when my 6' 4" bald self goes cruising by I get a lot of smiles and occasionally I get kids yelling out their car windows. Mostly though it's honest curiosity. Old people occasionally try to run me off the road because they are miserable, crabs but I really enjoy riding my bike.
Awesome video. I can't agree with the suspension comment though haha...accidentally hit a small pothole half a dozen times and tell me you feel connected to the bike.
Years ago I would get snarkie comments from "cyclist" saying I was cheating!!? I would tell them I did not know their woman. But today throughout my town and on the path I see more and more E-bikes. I tell folks if I want exercise I will walk, but for getting to the store or just joy riding you can't beat them. I build my own generally to keep it light and more like the bicycle it is. But your E-bike is clean for a fat tire most are really designed to look like a motorcycle which to me is just to clunky. I really like the fact your frame is more tapered and the way they utilized the open frame for storage. PS you could also add a second battery there if you wanted to for more range. But thats me looking to take it ever further.
Stunning, reflective analysis of a new way of getting about, very enjoyable and visually appealing. A tiny bit light on technical stuff, weight, lifting it up a few stairs sort of thing, it looks bulky and difficult to store. I am thinking about the price- and assuming it is Eeeek...The luggage thing is a pretty trick but of limited practical value. If you could push that panel out the back over the wheel and to enable wide stuff to be carried there, that would work. Like the rocker switch, that brilliant saddle and the low line of the bike for smaller folk. Not quite with you on the road rage thing, the angriest people I see are men dressed in lycra on racing bikes tearing through the traffic and red lights daring anyone to stop them and intimidating pedestrians with "death or move" stares. Could you do a few test runs in the rain, to help us get the whole world of cycling in perspective? Love the specs, one of the best things I have seen, need a few more designs though. Thank you, great work.
I've have a FatBoy for a few years now, and It still turns heads. Your looks like the original Reilgh Chopper bike from the 70's, probably why People of a certain age are checking It out
When I saw this I first thought that the mid frame platform was a skateboard. When I realised that it wasn't I started to wonder why not? Use an electric skateboard built in to power the bike and the skateboard when it is unclipped. What do you think?
It looks like a fine bike if it's what you like. I'd take full suspension everyday over something with no suspension. Again not saying it's bad just not for me.
@@Mezman999 Less so than you might think, as we have dedicated bike lanes. But yeah, underestimate the speed and usually not wearing helmets. crashing at 45-50 kph is NOT fun... Fortunately in our cities, in most areas they can't really go anywhere near that fast...
@@Mezman999 Ouch, that's horrible! Well, I always loved going to the UK and Ireland, but man, there's traffic EVERYWHERE! And bikes don't really seem to be normal yet. So I can imagine... Hopefully things will improve rather quickly...
The only concern I have going 2UP on a bike like that are the breaking capabilities vs the weight of two riders at high speeds; especially for people who don't keeps their bikes as well tuned as we should (hand up being guilty of that on occasion myself).
It appears that New Gen has ceased operations (Sept. 1, 2023). That's a pity, because it is a sweet-looking bike. - I looks like it would weigh very little. How much does (did) it weigh? - I like those handlebars and that seat. - The under-seat rack makes it look like someone stole the battery, LOL.
I just couldn't pedal something with a seat that low. My knees would be screaming. I am always raising the seat on my Brompton when the seatpost slips. BTW, "cruiser" denotes a completely different kind of bike here in the U.S., just as "pants" means a different type of garment lol.
It needs fenders or you will be very wet. It also needs a longer seat with foot pegs in case you want to give someone a lift. And finally you need to say the price. Please get back if you can. Thank you.
Looks cool, just need to have saddle height adjustment. Seems cramped when you are cycling and you are near the middle to rear of the seat, wouldnt do much good for your knees.
Why is the saddle so low, so inefficient if you do want to pedal because your knees would break not have a long enough power stroke! Can you raise the saddle????
few issues I anticipate with this design, no guards mean getting sprayed up the crotch and back on wet roads. Lack of seat height adjustment lends to awkward position for pedalling. Heavy tyres and frames are mitigated by electric assistance but are difficult to pull up if you need to mount a kerb
I say, the more of these low maintenance e-bikes the better. We need more of these designer bikes to entice more people to ride, although personally I'd prefer mudguards on my bikes. 😀
There are a lot of e-bikes that have very small frames and this is one of them. Also, the chain isn't guarded so expect trouser legs to get some oil on them. No mudguards, expect to get a damp bum. Apart from that it's great. 😐
Maybe it's not an issue given that pedalling is only a hint to the motor, but the distance between the crank and saddle appears to be non-adjustable. That means your legs never extend fully and so a lot of effort is going to be wasted.
About 2 and half grand 🤦🏻♂️ for that you could get a real bike with a decent mid drive Bosch motor, much better battery life, XT groupset, magura brakes and a set of rockshox forks. Good luck upgrading parts for this monster if you do invest lol.
For just over 2k it's not so bad. But personally it's good. But for me I would go with a small cargo E-bike or just go crazy and go with the Tern GSD because carrying stuff is better. With this Cruiser it looks good but sometimes you need to pop to the shops on the way home and need to carry stuff. But it's nice and suits a lot of people. Just for the price and as a car replacement a cargo E-bike would be better.
My PEV's keep my depression at bay more than any pill ever could. Gets my old butt off the couch and everyone wants to talk about it or ride them. Cool
This style of frame compared to conventional style of cycle frame. I was always of the belief that each leg should be more or less fully extended at the bottom of the power stroke. On this bike frame it’s not possible to stretch the leg (the leg is very scrunched up). I wonder if using such a bike on regular longish distances will take a negative toll on one’s knee joints ?
Just while I have you. Private eScooters are now allowed (with restrictions) on roads here in Melbourne Australia as of 4 April. Great news. Now for the road infrastructure!!
