Western Sahara, South-Sudan, Central Africa, Azawad-Mali, Yemen, Tigray, Kivu, Armenia, Burma, Peru, Colombia.... so many conflicts and wars going on...
To be fair most of those wars have been going on for almost as long as many of us have been alive. Burma/Myanmar has been ongoing since before independence and that started right after years of fighting during WW2. The wars in Columbia and Peru have been going on since the USSR started the communist guerilla campaign. Similarly the CAR/Kivu conflicts are continuations of the Congo wars which started in the 60s while the Belgians were still around. If i remember right the Western Sahara's war originally started when Morocco and Spain started fighting when Morocco was still a colony during the early Cold War. Crazy how many of todays problems trace back directly to European imperialism, you'd think we'd be well past all that by now seeing as most of the population of these countries werent even alive during colonial rule and some of these wars were started before the soldiers fighting in them were even born yet.

@arthas640 its due to many of the problems being fundamental to the countries now. After foriegn rule left they werent really set up to deal with independent rule plus many of the nations are those that wouldnt exist as they are naturally.
Yemen deserves more attention - the level of malnutrition among children is insane. It was the largest humanitarian crisis in the last 5 years (depending on how Sudan’s situation pans out)

I was about 14 when I first learned about the Darfur genocide. I highly recommend reading "They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky" by Alephonsion Deng, that's the book I learned about it from. Truly harrowing stuff, and the photos really hammer it home. I still can't get some of them out of my head 15 years later.
A large part of the lack of attention is probably the "boy who cried wolf" effect. It's one thing to be upset about a terrible war... But it's harder and harder to really care about the next one. And the next one. And the next. And the next. And the next. And the next. And so on... When they've been mercilessly slaughtering each other CONSTANTLY OVER THE COURSE OF DECADES, people start writing the whole thing off as a lost cause.

A more important reason is the lack of a good guy vs bad guy projections, in this conflict the raf and saf are very similarly horrible, but in other conflicts like Russia Ukraine and especially Israel Palestine there is always a side that either agrees with your ideology or is a part of your group and a side that opposes it, so it's easier for a lot of people to care about these two wars because they can project their support to whichever side aligns with their values/project their hatred to the side that opposes it, another reason is that there is things that can be done here, by pressuring your government to support a side, meanwhile your government likely doesn't care about sudan so it makes you feel powerless and thus apathetic, other reasons would be racism against Africans or feeling that this region is pretty much hopeless
It's not just western media, I live in Africa and it still is not talked about at all. We thankfully have a few charities that help but they never become well known. The world still does not care for Africa.
Charities in the west aren't looked favorable on anymore as they were in the 1980s or 90s because a lot of the money went to waste and local corruption frustrated donors. Basically, people got tired of donating to things that never improved.
It is not the world's responsibility to care for Africa! And stop using the excuse "we were colonized that's why we are the way we are" - are you just going to use that excuse for the rest of your miserable existence? Or some other excuse why you can't progress out of the hellish pit that a lot of you are in? Maybe try these: - stop fighting each other, - stop stealing from each other, - follow the rule of law, - have discipline, - stop making too many babies, - invest in institutions and proper infrastructure, and not in lavish palaces and sports cars, - stop with this deity nonsense, - be patient for at least 20 years.
Unfortunately, to be perfectly blunt, the other side of that statement is that Africa doesn't even care for _itself._ Why should the world help nations that so violently and consistently abuse that help? Why should people donate aid when so often that aid is wasted, stolen, or misappropriated? I had a sister who once sponsored an African child at a Christian orphanage. The program was supposed to keep her nourished, educated and supported until she became an adult and learned to take care of herself- instead, she dropped out at 14, disappeared with a boyfriend (I think he was a pimp,) and was never heard from again. That's a _microcosm_ of the rampant corruption charity donations and aid get subjected to once it gets packaged and sent abroad. If someone abroad sent a hundred million meals to Sudan, I wouldn't trust them to get out of the port before they were stolen and resold.
This may come off as harsh or uncaring, but I just wanted to say this. If a nation state, especially one with many groups of different peoples, cannot truly provide for all of its peoples without showing contempt for some, then those who deem themselves able to run their own affairs should have the option for independence. I'm not calling for every country to shatter into smaller nations.
Balkanization is not a bad thing usually. It just won't work here. They already consider themselves to be separate countries, separated by cultural lines- this is pretty much a colonial war. They even have privateers.

that is the true problem indeed. Africa's population, especially in the Sahel zone is exploding. Most of these countries have populations that they have no hope of sustaining by now. Things are hoing to get lot worse.
That's not gonna happen. Alot of those nations either get food Imports or fertilizer Imports. With the population crash happening in the west and east, economies will suffer and those Imports won't come in.
I highly doubt it will actually happen. Maybe double but these situations will persist and the reproduction rate will drop intensely. Malnourished people cannot make babies or bring them to term. We will see wide generation gaps and probably see a great reduction in population growth estimates

Ok, but lets take a look on it from historical standpoint, here me out. For generations that country and multiple other countries wanted to be and tried to fought for their independence, be it violently or not. Then for decades after colonial powers collapsed, each and every attempt of doing ANYTHING in those countries by western countries was portrayed by public oppinion as something bad. That west should stay out of africa and do not meddle with it. Multiple humanitarian attempts like mosquito nets, feed the poor, the well digging was sooner or later described as evil and colonialist. When belgians wanted to shoot down those who perpetrated the rwandan genocide they were shown as the abd guys. So from that standpoint. Why should a westerner care about what is happening there? Colonial era has been depicted as the biggest evil done to africa, while the circa 50 years of independence for most of the countries brought non-stop wars, etnic cleansings and misery. So, why should a western citizen care? Each and every attempt for last 40-50-60 years ended in getting the backlash and being called evil.

Every story about this breaks my heart a little. Had a coworker from Sudan who wanted nothing more than to go home and open a club. I don’t think that will ever happen.
It’s about food. Many of the regions that are spinning apart were pretty awful places to try to survive until the 1990s when the Soviet block fell apart and the world gained access to Russian fertilizer production. This glut destroyed the market and drove the price of fertilizer down for 30 years. This in turn allowed a staggering amount of marginal lands in areas that do not have soil nutrition suitable for agriculture (the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa bordering the Sahara, Brazil’s tropics, essentially of China not in the north plains, etc.). The more food that is produced the cheaper food becomes and the more people that can survive in countries that would otherwise not be able to support more people. Since the war began Russian fertilizer production has dropped by an estimated 60%. In places like Europe the cost of fertilizer has tripled and so have food costs, but they are rich countries and can afford it. A poor country cannot and so food production drops back to 1980s levels, with 2020s populations. The result is massive social upheaval and revolution. Who is in control does not matter when there isn’t enough food. We are headed for an Africa that looks a lot like it did in the 1970s and 1980s.

It's not a "boy who cried wolf" situation, but contrast in patterns is what tends to perk up the collective human spidey senses, so when you're in civil war or fracturing into multiple coutlntries for decades, it won't register to the average news consumer because it won't make it. Best example: The Chinese coast guard has conflicts with the Phillipine navy or fishing fleet several times a month. Almost always the same story. Super important to geopolitics but not covered because it is just repetitive IMO.

Just to clarify, the SAM-7 is a NATO reporting name for the Russian made Strela-2 MANPAD. The Strela-2 is also known as the 'SA-7' in NATO militaries. Which is why the origin of the SAM-7 may have gotten confusing.
I can see why nobody is talking about this, especially not in the West; Honestly, I wouldn't even know where to begin in fixing a mess that's this horrendously bad: You can't send in aid at significant scale, because aid workers will be targeted and aid goods will just be diverted towards sustaining the war. You can't intervene militarily because you'd just wind up endlessly fighting insurgents and guerillas for a decade to absolutely no benefit, like in Afghanistan. You can't pressure foreign backers into ending their support for both sides of the conflict, because one of those foreign backers is Iran who can't really be reasoned with. You can't support one side over the other so that it wins and the conflict ends, because ethics and because both sides are awful; Whoever wins would just inflict unspeakable horrors on the losing party and then do the same to the part of the civilian population that supported it. You can't mediate a negotiated end to the conflict, because as long as there's support from foreign backers neither side will materially degrade to the point where it can no longer continue the war. The only thing to do is to ignore the conflict and wait until both sides run out of men to throw into the meatgrinder.

any humanitarian aid that gets sent to virtually any African nation gets sequestered by a warlord or 'government' and then taken for profit. There is no point in sending aid to that region or.. to most regions for that matter. Even locally, most large charities have to pay for their overhead costs and that's almost all of your donations. Why donate?

No it is a very valid question. Historically middle east was very stable and had empires that lasted for like hundreds of years, like the ottomans or Ummayads or Aayubids. In fact it is just recent that the middle east faces unstability which is to say more specifically; after the fall of the ottoman empire in ww1, many greater empires like the British and French simply wanted to exploit the middle east (since the more the land the better ig). Anyways to sum it up, trashy borders drawn after independence lead to dispute on land and lead to people distrusting the government put by the colonialists, which lead to revolutions and the ones that didn't like the revolution form terrorist organisation to plan for a another "better" revolution and the creation of isreal was a major catalyst for instability, because basically most of the terrorist organisations in the middle east almost always have the goal to remove isreal. Terrorism is bad for the middle east and now one wants it, however it improves weapon trade with USA or Russia or even EU, therefore having terrorist that buy your weapons is basically and economic advantage for the west, and no one in the west is sadly denying that, therfore maintaing the instability in the middle east is very important for countries that manufacture weapons even if it is immoral and inhumane. Also note that gulf countries are currently very stable and are living currently in their golden age due to oil obviously and trade with gold. I hope this helps!

How many westerners know that the Tigray war is so far the deadliest war of the century at it's peak 1000 soldiers were being unalived everyday, it's total cost being 600,000 people...
How about asking anyone outside of eastern Africa. What could the average Liberian, a Nepalese, a Korean or a Syrian tell you about this war? Don't put your frustration on "the west" in this case as they have no real ties to this conflict.

Is the Ethiopian crisis and now Sudan really reported and followed in India, Japan or Vietnam? I suspect the west is still more conscious of those areas from past historical entaglements and a sense or responsibility (from when the west dominated 95% of the globe).
I remember Sudan being mentioned in the early 2000s, it was like a failed state similar to Somalia back then - maybe actively engaged in a civil war, not sure. But it was a royal mess and then reporting about it suddenly stopped 🤷🤷 Didn't expect it to improve, to be honest. To much difference in culture, ethnicity and probably language and religion. As a South African, I feel sorry for ordinary citizens in that country. We’re hosting a lot of them at home. They never mention it for some reason, that goes for the rest of other African nationals in SA. Maybe I’m ignorant but….. I once met a girl from Sudan… I guess she was a refugee or something. We chatted at a bus stop. Said she was from Sudan. I said it must be nice with the warm weather there… she informed me Sudan is not a nice place and I wish I never asked about it
All dictatorships are democracies. Therefore, when the factions and this conflict say they're going to reinstate democracy. They are technically being correct. North Korea is a democracy, The Congo is a democracy, Eritrea is a democracy, Turkmenistan is a democracy.
Most dictatorships claim to be democracies, you mean. Some others claim to be communist. Some claim to be monarchies. It really doesn't matter what a ruling government claims they are.
@@CheezMonsterCrazy there's a really good reason why the founding fathers of the United States refuse to use the word democracy. They use the word Republic because it has a lot more restrictive definition than democracy.
This is mad. I havent even *heard* about that war in general media. How can the world go completely bananas about the Gaza conflict, but not mention Sudan every at all? This world is so hypocritical. You can literally only stay sane if you choose to ignore it and that makes it even more horrible.
