Yes and no. Mitsuri was fighting Hantengus strongest clone. Hantengu himself is actually fairly weak and the other demons that split off all had their powers divided. Mitsuri definitely did most of the work because if Tanjiro had to fight Zohakuten, he's probably lose very fast.

I think the reasons Tanjiro didn’t become Hashira were that he needed to be promoted to the highest level (other than Hashira) and also either beat 50 demons or a 12 moon BY HIMSELF. Granted Giyu did say that Tanjiro had the strength of a Hashira in the fight against Akaza.

Yes! That are two of the three requirements that are needed. The highest rank (below) Hashira is a must requirement, with one of the other two needed.

Sanemi had assistance from his best friend Kumeno when he killed LM1. The only reason I can think of is that Tanjiro didn't become a Hashira because Giyu is already a Hashira and Tanjiro was still counted as a Water breathing user.

Actually Zenitsu did kill an upper rank, SPOILER AHEAD In the Hashira training arc, Zenitsu got trapped in the Infinity Castle. Whilst down there he met Kaigaku, an “upper moon” While his rank was technically an upper moon, his skill was was that of lower 2 (i think) The reason he was upper rank was because Enmu (Lower Moon 1) and Gyutaro/Daki (Upper Moon 6) had recently died, and someone needed to fill in the ranks.

Bruh, he literally was dealing the finishing blow on UM3, while Giyu was getting destroyed. Tanjiro was the reason the half the upper moons were getting killed. He undoubtedly killed over 50 normal demons. He was on the level of hashiras, though unofficially. Getting ranked hashira wasn’t his goal, so he didn’t really care imo. His sister was his priority.

@@gimp7915 That's not really true. Because Koyuki stopped akaza from harming both of them(Tanjiro, Giyuu). And when she appeared in his brain, he was trying to process who exactly she is. Of course, he lost his memories. So he wouldn't process it so easily. But, i'm just going to tell you something, he wasn't a bad person. So, in this fight here, if he 'never' gave up, i don't think so. Because if Koyuki kept stopping/interrupting him from Killing Tanjiro and giyuu, i'm sure he would stop. Because her face would be familiar to him. Kokushibo is whatever. He wanted to be like his brother but became a Monster instead. A monster surrounded by Envy. How could he not be ashamed? His appearance looked ugly. He even admitted it to himself.

So In order to be come a Hashira. 1: You need to killed 50 normal demons or one of the 12 kizuki. 2: You need to kill them with no assistance. 3: You need to be appointed by Kagaya and gain majority votes from Hashira. 4 you have to be rank Kinoe.

@@Igorteddede true but if so muichiro is the only one who's fought and uppermoon solo and won, and Tanjiro is the first in over a century to still kill not just 1 but 2 and in the hantengu fight he did do most of the heavy lifting till mitsuri showed up to hold off zohakuten, so if anything Tanjiro is 100% deserving of the hashira rank with the way he was able to keep up with tengen's speed and had the strength to fight 3 demons with the strength of individual uppermoons

@@Jaythegibberishyou know that kokushibo was the 2nd strongest slayer to ever exist after Yorichi and is the 2nd most powerfull demon in KnY? .He could speed blitz akaza .In Akaza's and rengoku's fight tanjiro said that he couldn't see them because they are moving so fast. So if someone is even faster than akaza and rengoku combined tanjiro is screwed especialy if he uses hinogami kagura or kokushibo notices the hanafuda earings wich would piss him off

There is another reason too. Another reason is that Tanjiro has to be a certain rank AND kill one of the twelve kizuki or 50+ demons. Which he wasn’t on that certain rank.

The wind hashira killed the former lower 1 with his best friend. He survived the battle but his friend died. So only he was promoted. I think the slayers also had to be a specific rank as well as slay one of the 12. With the wind hashira the way he is, I am sure he was insanely efficient enough to have killed at least 50 demons before he got to lower moon 1

Tanjiro is on the level of the hasira the the upper moons but he isn’t quite to the peak yet. We will see him achieve this when he has his 1v1 moment against Muzan at the end.

What about Kanao?even the intro of the current season suggests she’s still a little above other demon slayers but also the Kamaboro squad in terms of skills. Doma even told her she was more skilled than her master Shinobu herself and the girl is still not a Hashira ???

Prob cuz kanao didnt have the chance to kill 50 demons whilst being in the kanoe rank. Also, kanao is the successor of shinobu which meant that she can only become a hashira if shinobu dies/retires.(just like the situation with zenitsu and his gramps) Edit: shinobu prob rose to the kanoe and hashira rank using wisteria poison to kill every demon that she encountered like she did on mt natagumo to kill the female spider demon

Hmm good point. But i think masachika prob defended sanemi with his body without landing any strikes on the demon. This leaves sanemi having to deal with the demon alone while masachika slowly bleeds to death. Thats my theory

He needed Tengens Uzuis help because daki and gyutaro could not be fought alone, Inosuke ended up decapitating daki and Tanjiro decapitated Gyutaro while Tengen was holding gyutaro down

For those saying that tanjiro deserves the hashira rank afternhearing the criteria stated saying he beheaded upper and lower moons. Against rui, nezuko helped him, no upper moon was defeated solo cause they werent changed in over 100 years(exception to the new 6 and zenitsu), and tanjrio did take out a fair amount of demons, but not close to 50 and the demon slayers were disbanded after muzans defeat which was the same time tanjiro was crippled

The thing that doesn't make sense, some of the Lower moons he killed only required the help of one other person which should make him a hashira. If you don't believe me, Sanemi had killed Lower moon 1 before the series with a man named Masachika (Who died in the process, but nonetheless still helped.) Which mentioned in the manga, had made him rise to Hashira level and met up with Ubuyashiki for the first time.

I think part of it too after the swordsmith village arc is that the hashira and kagaya were not focusing on ranks of a demon slayer but more in preparation for the unexplained silence in demon activity

I was saying in another post about how tanjiro cut off the head of upper 6 by himself but had help from Tengen cause he held the demon down, so he's got the requirement of killing a 12 kizuki(which he had done twice) but still isn't given the recognition of hashira even though there was 2 spots available at the end of the entertainment district arc. He just has now gotten strength on par with hashiras in the training arc but hasn't officially been promoted to hashira cause he hasn't fallen with the requirements perfectly to how the DS core would want cause he didn't kill them on his own. Plus he isn't ranked high enough and yet he has been in the hospital ward enough for the kakushi to put a higher rank on his hand. It's a shame cause tanjiro deserves the rank of harshira is SO BAD but hasn't gotten official recognition and title of one, just the strength on par with the hashira

Killing a kizuki without assistance is not a requirement, shinazugawa became a pillar after defeating lower moon 1 with assistance of a friend who died in the fight, and ubuyashiki mentioned that if that friend was alive he would became a pillar as well, meaning tangiro met the requirements for the position of pillar
