USA have always had a nation segregated by racial and ethnic groups, both due to the action of their governments and because immigrant communities tend to isolate themselves within their groups, neither in Spain nor in Latin America (which, despite having a certain history of segregation) has a much longer history of mixing, Spain cannot separate its culture from Arab, Visigothic or Roman heritage in the same way that Latino culture (which is mixed by it's own definition) is impossible to separate from both its indigenous, Spanish and even african heritage, that is something that USA americans and their concept of nationality, race and culture will never understand
@toxicanalytics9966
@toxicanalytics9966 Год назад
Probably one of my favourite things about latino music genres is how you can clearly recognice just with the rithm and instruments which ones have more spanish, indigenous and african influence, and even if you analyze where they originated you can clearly see which one of those groups had more cultural influence in each country of origin.
@soloheroina

@@toxicanalytics9966 i think you are mostly correct, but the context is important. the spanish promoted race mixing in LATAM as a form of "diluting" the black and brown people, to bring them closer to being white.
@toxicanalytics9966
@toxicanalytics9966 Год назад
@@soloheroina Of course, as I have said, there was segregation in the viceroyalties, the governors were generally Spaniards born in the peninsula, the empire was reluctant to even give government posts to Spaniards born in America even if they were white because they trusted less in their "fidelity to the crown". But for example, in the poor neighborhoods of the viceroyalties it was not uncommon to see a mixture of whites, blacks, mestizos and indigenous people, unlike the racial ghettos of English colonies. And even to a much lesser extent, there was also indigenous nobility, mainly Tlaxalteca and other tribes that maintained their privileges for (basically carrying out most of the conquest because the Spanish alone would not have achieved anything without their help) and lived with the Creole and Spanish nobility. Obviously they had less privileges than pure Spaniards but I am not saying that it was a just or egalitarian society because obviously it wasn't I am saying that it was a diverse society and more used to cultural mixing.

The thief actually wants to get better at art but is not confident enough in their current skills, and impatient to reach a point where they'll be able to "draw like that other artist". The Puss in Boots case really surprised me as a Spaniard. The cat is Spaniard, Spanish from Spain, since is based on Spaniard soldier. And he is, more concrete, sevillan, from Andalucía. You know this for his accent when he speaks. I thought everyone knew this, but it seems many gringos think that Spain is in Mexico, that Spanish is a South America only language when is even talked in Africa and the language comes from... well... Not mention also that Spain has TONS of other heritages from Morocco, Portugal, England and France and many other countries. And they are teaching this bad on puprose. Just see what Alfonso Borrego, descendant of native americans, says about the colonization. He says English were at fault for massacring natives. Spanish didn't do that bc they mixed. The problem is that gringos are teaching latinos their low education quality, and are feeding them lies and bad education.

I LOVE that Puss in Boots fanart, it's an incredibly good interpretation of the character and it bothers me that a lot of people knee-jerk assume that being Spanish or Latino automatically means dark skin. I'm far from an expert myself as I'm neither of those things to my knowledge and it's not my place to speak on behalf of those communities, but if I'm not mistaken, a good adjacent example of this would be Dib and Gaz from Invader Zim, who as far as I'm aware are/were intended to be light-skinned Mexicans to reflect the creator, Jhonen Vasquez, but are generally assumed to be white simply because of their skin color. It's really unfortunate honestly
@toxicanalytics9966
@toxicanalytics9966 Год назад
i am no expert myself but i Guess i can give a point as an spanish. Basically this Puss in Boots is a parody of El Zorro, which is mexican but most of its stories occur during the Virreinato de Nueva España, and during that time LATAM was just as diverse in skin tones as It is today as el zorro was part of the nobility, that makes him probably White (even if he is an invented character). The other part is that as the puss is voiced by Antonio Banderas and he uses his andalucian accent and he makes some jokes referencing Andalucía, so that makes the character obviously non mexican anyways, but the thing about that interpretation of the puss of the movie is that he isnt supposed to be neither spanish nor hispanoamerican, as neither of those places exists on shrecks world. This Puss in Boots is more like the personification of hispanic character during viceroyalties, It embraces hispanic characteristics from both Spain and LATAM as one identity from a time in which those two identities were not separated. My point is that puss being mexican or spanish is irrelevant, because the importante thing is that he has hispanic culture, and hispanic culture is not exclussive to any skintone or race.

the idea that Spaniards are darker skinned (compared to other europeans) is because of Moorish heritage (unsure if that's the accurate word or just old fashioned). basically having lots of north african ancestors because of all the north african people who moved into spain starting back in medieval times. not all spaniards of course, but some can be more tanned with dark hair and eyes and mediterranean features. in western ireland, people with a natural tan and dark hair and eyes are called spanish irish because they likely have family from the spanish sailors who used to harbor in western ireland as a major trade route. that idea that spanish people may be darker skinned is not a bad thing nor is it untrue per say. it's just not true for everyone in spain. same with italians. many in the south have north african and arab heritage when many in the north do not. it's ok to say youd like to see human puss and boots featuring antonio banderas more southern european looks. but the ginger interpretation is accurate too and fundamentally the artists choice. it's fun with his orange kitty cat fur 👍 and probably is a good reminder of the ethnic diversity in spain.

@@clarehidalgoDude, this happened to me but backwards! I’m Mexican and got told by a Puerto Rican lady (co-worker as well) that I was embarrassing myself by claiming to be Mexican when I was “clearly” not. Although she didn’t just bring up that I was white looking, she brought up my height and basically said I was too tall to be Mexican (I was a 6 foot tall 18 year old girl so to her that was “suspicious”). I don’t think I said anything back. I had really bad social anxiety back then so I was about to cry when this sweet old lady popped up out of nowhere and asked if she was bothering me. Then told her to leave me alone. Talking with her I found out the rude lady was her daughter in law and that she was also Puerto Rican. For the rest of the time I worked there she’d talk to me in Spanish because apparently her daughter in law couldn’t speak it and it made her super paranoid. She was super insecure and that was probably what lead to the whole thing in the first place now that I actually think about it. The older lady was really sweet. I often wonder what’s going on with her since I haven’t seen her since I got fired several years ago (not for being a bad worker, I just got hit by a car lol).

The person is literally not here anymore to even defend their work, and the vultures come out of hiding to start profiting off of the legacy of these artists. I don't even know how you could stoop so low. It's unbelievble. The moment these artists pass, someone comes along and spits on their graves. It's just insane, dude. Idk if you play this game, but the same stupid thing happens in the Genshin art community. There’s an area based off of middle eastern countries called Sumeru so of course the characters are constantly drawn with a different darker skin tone than their design. As people in these comments pointed out it’s an ignorant assumption that they “should” look darker, but it’s also a Chinese anime game. Most anime characters are white, why would an anime game be different. It’s not totally related but your comment reminded me of the Sumeru skin color drama. Edit: IS THAT A SAKI PFP I SEE?

The post Ross made about someone stealing Qinni's (her real name is Han Qing, thus her username is pronounced Chee - Knee) isn't even about the NFT stuff. Some online stationery store started selling a notebook collection with her artworks as the covers just days after her family announced her passing. Many people raised concerns about it and they _claimed_ they discussed it with Qinni the previous year. But in the DM they showed, all she responded with was basically "I'm still sick, so let's put it in the backburner". That's not an ok, she was dealing with cancer.

When I first watched the movie I was in awe to see a character from the same place as me and with the same accent, since andalucia's accent is normally mocked or we are asked to speak "normal". Unsurprisingly, americans had to demonstrate their lack in knowlege in geography because "Spanish= Mexico, and Mexico black bc we americans are the only white saviors of the continent". Let me be clear, more people in Andalucía are Spaniards and/or Moroccan, we are either white or brown, but more usually we are white as milk, maybe in summer we tan a bit

I'm also pretty sure that people with red/ ginger hair often have lighter skin most of the time, so him having lighter skin as he's an ginger tabby actually makes sense.
