WHY THE BILLET FOUR VALVE MONSTER CYLINDER HEAD WASN’T APPROVED FOR NHRA PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE RACING

In this video we have ave interesting discussion in the pits in Australia with Mitch Brown of Monster Race Products, Top Fuel Nitro Motorcycle Drag racer and the manufacturer of the popular billet, four-valve CNC machined, Drag Bike cylinder head. We see the head in use in many forms of motorcycle drag racing, including Pro Mod and Australian IHRA Pro Bike (Pro Stock Motorcycle) Racing despite the head never getting approval for American NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racing. With many NHRA PSM Suzuki racers saying they are down on power compared to the v-twins, would this innovative and advanced cylinder head help even the playing field? Mitch weighs in and so does IHRA and NHRA engine builder and racer Rhett Lougheed. We see the cylinder head up close on Glenn Wooster’s bike and see it in use on Ryan Learmonth’s championship-winning bike. Mitch also talks about what the design process was like with NHRA legends George and Jackie Bryce and Greg Cope. We send a special shoutout to Laurie Dunlap and her team at Web Camshafts who made a special cam for this head. Would you like to see what an American Pro Stock Motorcycle Team could do with this four-valve Monster? Experts say it could really help two-valve Suzuki racers like Jerry Savoie, Steve Johnson, Karen Stoffer and others catch up to the EBR Buells and Vance & Hines Harley Davidson Street Rods. Share your take!

Pro Stock bike should have stayed with 4 valve heads years ago but we all know the NHRA. The issue with heads started years ago, the 4 valve heads were put at a disadvantage back in the 90s. Back then 2 valve bikes could run 1500cc(92ci) but the 4 valve could only run 1294cc(79ci). This was back when Kawasaki's were somewhat competetive in Prostock. So, the GS based bikes went to 2 valve heads. When you think about it, it was a bit of a step backwards. I mean, 2 valve hemi heads are really old technology. Now don't get me wrong, you can still get a lot of power out of them but still.....

Hemi heads are old technology??? Is that right !!? Has anyone looked at a new hellcat lately .? APPARENTLY NOT!!! has anyone been to an NHRA TOP FUEL DRAG RACE LATELY ??? APPARENTLY YOU HAVE NOT ! we got top fuel hemi rails turning 3 seconds at over 300 miles per hour in the 1320 ....your millennial use of the word technology has no meaning when it comes to anything mechanical ...what does a Buggatti have for an engine ? Its four offenhauser four bangers on one v block of a V16 ...in 1927 the miller racing team of indianapolis indiana sold two offy power indy race cars to a french man named Buggatti and the rest is history ...there is no new technology since the industrial revolution of 200 years ago !!! Apparently history was never your best subject and neither was spelling mine

@@CycleWerkz yeah they shortened it to 1000ft because of a really bad accident once the safety tech catch’s up with the speeds the top fuel dragster can go they’ll go back to the full 1/4, in 1000ft there hitting 330MPH in the 1/4 they would be up around 350-370 and current safety gear isn’t rated for that kinda crash

With 4 valves you might only need .550 lift to flow what the 2 valve needs .800 lift and awful heavy springs that pound the hell out of everything and wear things out prematurely.. Having said that the old 2 valve GS likes boost and methanol like nothing else, and with the roller bearing bottom end they can handle it too

For the answer you would have to look at the amount of money Harley Davidson pours into NHRA. You may as well ask another question. Why is there T/F Harley? Yet the fuel bikes that run a half second faster don't have a place to run in NHRA. To my knowledge the only place they make an appearance in NHRA is the U.S. Nationals. I don't know if that's a fact and the biggest thing that leads me to believe that is the fact that Elmer Trett died as a result of a crash at Indy and that i'm pretty sure he was riding a 4cylinder when he crashed. If do, probably a one race invitational.

@taylorgtrotter
@taylorgtrotter 4 года назад
Gregory Timmons that’s not at all true. Despite what you and many others think, it’s difficult to maintain parity between 4 cylinder bikes and v-twins. Given the fact that for 2020 the v-twins got smacked with 15 more labs of weight and the Suzuki’s just got 4 valve heads, I’d say it is more than fair. If it was really fair, they’d let all the bikes run 4 valve heads since the Suzuki’s, Buells, and HD’s all have 4 valve heads from the factory.

The Suzuki’s are “down on power, but do you all forget the Suzuki’s weigh less than the v-twin bikes? It’s all a balance, a give and take. Can’t have your cake and eat it too. I say let the Suzuki’s have their 4 valve heads, but at the same time, let the v-twins run 4 valve heads as well since all three bikes come factory with 4 valve heads. Adjust displacements and weights accordingly to keep the bikes at the same ET and MPH as they currently are.

So if NHRA is fixing the race so only Harley's can win .THEN WHY did NHRA rule that the Harley team had to add 20 more pounds of weight to there bikes.? And why did NHRA rule that Harley was not allowed to use a harley v-rod engine in a Harley v-rod pro stock motorcycle ? But instead Harley is required to use the same engine as all other v twin brands have to use that is a OHV version of a push rod engine with one intake and one exhaust that is unlike any Harley engine ever but looks more like a two stage air compressor. And there are specs written by the NHRA for this v twin of theirs ghat are held to the closest tolerance of no mods by any if the teams at all.. So far all the comments are vicious lies aimed at destroying the sport for everyone cause every time one of you stupid faggets open your piehole claiming it's all fixed for only Harley to win you just ran off 1000s more Suzuki fans thinking they are wasting their money to even show up. Have you looked in the grand stands lately.? Keep running your cocksuckers and pretty soon there will be no Suzuki or Harley fans in the grand stands.. They are the ones who pay the bills so you stupid bastards can have a place to play.. And when the spectors are gone. All you butt hurt Harley haters will be gone forever no matter how big you build your busas.. And if you DO NOT believe this can happen TO YOU, it's motherfuckers like everyone of you cocksuckers here today killing the sport is the reason we don't have the famous Indy mile dirt track race no more as the last one was in 2015 ..all because of idiots claiming the AMA fixes the rules for the Grand National Championship #1 so only Harley can win.. And fans of the other 7 to 8 brands of motorcycles stopped going to the AMA GNC-1 and 2 races... Today the NHRA Pro Stock allow only two engines one is a DOHC 2V four cylinder, the other is a OHV push rod V Twin, both engines resemble no manufacture built to spec by Vance and Hines in their Indianapolis headquarters of brownsburg located just north of Lucas oil race way home of the U.S. Nationals with the track minutes away the two engines of 4 and 2 cylinders are tested regularly dynoed to the same horsepower as close as possible with the weight of the bikes adjusted for any differents and after Harley was forced to add 20 more pounds because of all you but hurt Busa Sissy bois the extra weight only gave the Harley more traction and lower e. T.s and more miles per hour and another championship all because of you fucking faggots crying like babies every time Harley lights up the board first.. Here is the offical NRHA rules as the specs for two and four cyclinder pro stock bike engines and why they don't use 4 valve heads as no one in this video or comments has a fucking clue www.nhra.com/news/2019/inside-pro-stock-motorcycle-engine Now get your dicks out of your buddies mouth and save this sport and start acting acting like men instead of crying like babies. When I go to watch top fuel bikes, and Busas with massive turbos, the crowds are watching. Nobody watches all that bracket racing stuff. Personally I appreciate the tech in pro stock. I'd like them to even the field by setting the displacement and weight the same for everyone. Let them do whatever they want normally aspirated and spec fuel. @@CycleWerkz if you set displacement and weight the same in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycles the V-Twin would never win . Its all about moving large amounts of air flow...take two engines the exact same displacement a four cylinder at 14,000 rpm moves a lot more air than a V-Twin at 10,000 ...the V-Twin will lose every time ..is this what everyone wants to see ? If so i would give it about 3 runs and NHRA Pro Stock motorcycle racing would be all four cylinder bikes forever ...have you seen any honda shadows out running a yamaha R1 ? NO you have not and you never will! But if both bikes have the same horse power at the rear tire, now you will see a race you can bet money on as it will be a riders race and not a demo ride of air flow between a four cylinder air compressor vs a two cylinder air compressor .... As far as the comments i see are from wannabees who have never raced a pro stock bike of any kind or anything else for that matter... And yes team harley has 10 years of championships in a row , for one reason , Andrew Hines cuts perfect lights again and again and again every year ..and his team mate Eddie is number 2 at cutting perfect lights ...when you see reaction times that start out with a decimal point followed by zeros you aint gonna beat them boys no matter what you ride ! APPARENTLY NO ONE WAS WATCHING THE MOST EXCITING NHRA PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE RACING IN THE HISTORY OF THE SPORT .. 1ST ROUND WAS A TOTAL DISASTER FOR TEAM HARLEY ! ANDREW HINES THREW AWAY CHAMPIONSHIP #11 it was andrew vs a little girl of 22 years old rookie as it was her first year riding a motorcycle of any kind at all and ended up in finals riding a four cylinder Suzuki Hayabusa , cutting lights like andrew , turning in the 6's during practice runs ...apparently causing andrew to flip out... ...in the first round she freaks out andrew at the lights , and andy fuckin RED LIGHTS AND BLOWS THE CHAMPIONSHIP...and team harley has nothing to say to the cameras as they all seem to be avoiding . Its the biggest hoot in history off all drag racing as this little 22 year old girl goes on knocking down rider after rider in the finals as more red lights engine failures she can not be stopped all day taking the championship ....so all you harley haters can quit your crying and shove it up your butt hurt ass ...eat shit and die

@@donniebaker5984 Some say the first to throw personal attacks have lost the debate. There're many errors here. I did watch the Pomona race and was hang'n around the pits that day. Miss Jianna Salinas did win the race at Pamona, she did not win the championship. She did NOT intimidate anyone as she only qualified on her forth and final qualifying round with a 6.972 ET and an 040 light. I may be wrong but I think that's the first time this team has been in the 6's. She cut a .116 light in E1 but Hines did blow it crazy bad with a -.135 red light, I'd say that's pretty far away from a perfect light for either. IMHO I don't think it was nerves as much as complacency as he didn't seem to be the least bit nervous. Don't get me wrong, I think Miss Salinas is altogether awesome, but she didn't intimidate anyone. All three other E rounds were lost by her opponents due to breaks, none were red lights. They were won by Salinas and team by not breaking and not red lighting. Alas, Andrew Hines still won the championship as Jerry and Matt both broke. If either of those guys had won this race, they could've taken the Championship from Andrew. BTW her engine is not a Hayabusa platform none of them are. You are only allowed to run platforms NHRA allows. Busa's and V-Rods are not on the list. The Zuks are stuck with the ancient GSX1100 crankcase but the twins get to use a billet unit. Without that, I'm afraid 10k RPM wouldn't be possible. You actually admitted the V-Twin design is inferior to the in-line 4 design. It's good you see that. You'll notice no stock Harleys running past stock R1s on the street. NHRA is now trying to keep the groups equalized to keep it exciting. I just don't like the way they go about it. I would like to see everyone going faster so silly limitations on both sides are a problem. It is interesting to see who wins the championships as they suffer through the ever changing minefield of rule changes. I'd prefer they just simplify the rules. Like I say, max weight, area and fuel specs, and you gotta run a platform that is or was in production I think this would encourage manufacturers to provide much more awesome bikes so they can win races. If Harley wants to win in PSM, they'll need to design and sell to the public and engine platform that'll do it. IMO, calling the class Pro STOCK today is misleading. No I don't want to see Harley fail at the track. I want to see them produce better machines for the consumer. .It's really sad when a GSXR600 will blow by Harley's fastest offering. Even that wouldn't bother me if they did make people think they were buying a powerful brand. If you want a Harley because of the name, history or culture I think that's great. Do enjoy. Just don't even image you'll outrun any crotch rocket.

@@henrytyson3219 aparently you dont have a clue what the word prostock motorcycle means to the rules governing NHRA sanction events ..first off back in 1983 when pro stock bikes finally had some organization came under the same types of modification rules as pro stock cars that were anything but what you could possibly buy beg steal or bought off the showroom floor ...you are like a lot of young know it alls today that dont bother reading the rules of the game first but start your complaining about conditions prices and contruction of the motorcycle its self never was allowed or is today not allowed by the class rules of NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycles ....if you make all the changes to Pro Stock as you claim it was or should be there wont be any Pro Stock bikes at all ... There is a class for all motorcycles as you claim Pro Stock should be ...NHRA calls "Stock" and "Super Stock" same goes for cars ! Until you can figure out what i just said ,your butt hurt whining is useless ...and those poor old racers who are always changing the rules in their favor are the hobby racers who have not upgraded their 4 cylinder powered sleds in over 10 years with already lighter minimum weights than any of the v-twins and those wanna bees all have white collar jobs in the five digits and do no home work on their bikes but cry when they lose and the top 20 who race pro stock to feed their family are the ones who are penalized for doing their job under the rules .so today if the professionals go too fast they get punished by the NHRA as it is you and your cry baby uneducated mindless understanding of the game who pays the bills that keeps the tracks open buying tickets so telling the world of drag racing today as you posted what you will for the unknowing as the NHRA is seeing less tickets sold as your own bullshit is costing the sanction and running off people just like you with no knowledge of what you are saying is wrong that in real time has nothing to do with the class ... your explainations that dont mean shit as it is you telling me and the rest of the world that us Hoosiers did not write the correct rules for a game we invinted first ..thats just too fuckin bad chump!.. If it was not for people like you we wouldnt have people like you fucking shit up to point no one will win .as it is the v twin teams racing on their own and still trying to scratch out enough money to feed their face suffer the most as the NHRA thanks to the whiners like you of yamazuki butt hurt , the NHRA in order to keep the gates open and the ticket box selling tickets keeps demanding the private teers and the only factory backed team has to keep adding dead weight to their bike that already weighs over 640 pounds vs the yamazukis that are under 600 pounds and the NHRA just told the V&H / H-D Screamin' Eagle Pro Stock Drag Racing Team they will have to add another 15 pounds to their bikes next season to qualify ...or should i go visit eddie andrew and matt , they are only 50 miles east of my house in the racing capital of the world where i grew up racing motorcycles and cars as us hoosiers have all done since the early 50's and tell them boys to make their bikes weigh an even 1000 pounds or henry tyson is going to throw another fit and scream like eagle only going backwards spinning his wheels Someone said " it can never be done" Harley said " we are glad we never listened" Someone said "when pigs fly" Harley said " NOW THEY DO "

NHRA is so rigged. Let Busa's run prostock. A prostreet Busa would eat those V&H vacuum cleaners.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Pro Stock is a naturally aspirated class. Pro Street uses power adders. Take the power adders away and those Busa-based bikes wouldn't even be close. The Busa will never be competitive in Pro Stock because you can't get the displacement needed to be competitive.
