Yup 2011 328 N52 engine No probs 220,000 km The usual maintenance over the 10 years of ownership water pump still original recently changed coil pack, plugs , rear shocks looks and runs great love the channel

Try an N55 engine. It's pretty reliable as well. 150K on mine with typical maintenance.

Recently bought 2007 325i with this engine (shame thats last year of 3 series with this engine in UK) sounds good, drives well, insurance is same as for my previous 2005 118i (as far as i know going for 330i would be expensive). I am happy i managed to get low mileage one (60k) with FSH, second owner for just under 5k gbp. Just need to service it now to make sure everything is spot on. I intend to keep it for as long as i can ^^

Great video again! Ever had a retainer spring pop off on the inlet camshaft? It happened to me and of course after the spring popped my intermediate levers also came out and did a little damage on the camshaft :( just wondering if this has happened to you or anyone else

I have a 2007 e60 with n52 and a 2005 e46 with m54. Both are fantastic engines. Both sound and pull well. I would say the m54 edges the n52 on reliability. I do think that alongside the m57, these engines are amazing. Why bmw has 'progressed' to the calamity of its current engines like the b58 which I have also owned. Bmw cannot make a reliable v8 or v12. It should also stop making SUVs but that's a different story.

Nope ! This is a N52 channel my friend your in the wrong channel for that. N52 is the best engine ever produced and it’s a fact the last and the best naturally aspirated engine. Sorry to have to tell you N54 kicked off the whole new world for turbo engines but unfortunately as they kept making the B58 engine BLEW the N54 out the water, it’s no longer the greatest engine. It’s NOW KNOWN AS THE ENGINE NOBODY WANTS !! that’s why there is 1000s for sale here and nobody wants them 😂 But you can’t find a N52 car here in the U.K. not one bit and that’s because it was only sold for ONE YEAR and then stopped as we got the next naturally aspirated engine N53 which produced 280BHP which USA never got

Sigh, i am so conflicted. I approached someone recently who is a owner of a 630i (N52 engine) and he had nothing great to say about it in terms of reliability. He told me he has spent over 8k on repairs and he is still having problems. He has a hairline oil leak that no mechanic has been able to find. It put me off to say the least. But i still really like the look of the car🤦🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

Love my n52 and aside from a cooling system refresh, Vanos solenoids, oil gaskets and plugs / coils, it has been very reliable for over 200K km.

Hi doc, I have the n52b25af with stage 3 intake manifold and it doesn’t use any oil between changes. I’m now on 104k miles. Guess I’m just lucky🤪

This is a great engine. The VANOS and Valvetronix systems are a bit too complicated for what they do. VTEC and VVT do 90% of the same work with far higher reliability.

Got an X3 Si with cooked engine. Easier to find a lump. Current engine is N52K B25A (plastic cover) I have the chance of a metal topped N52 from a 325 Msport. Will it be an ok swap, if not a better option? Thanks Jim

which would be better, an e90 330i non sport, or e90 328i sport? arent they essentially the same, minus the 3 stage manifold and ecu tune? i love those sport seats, and cant see myself without them, plus, 328i is LCI

Doc I am located in the US. You mentioned that the US market only got the cars with the three stage manifold for awhile than we stopped receiving them. How can I know for certain if my car has the 3 stage manifold? My car has the metal/silver valve cover and is it a 530i

Yes I agree it is a good engine but personally I’m a HUGE fan of the M57 myself and will probably get one also n52 engine cars rn are dirt cheap so might get one ☝️

With the turbo i think it will need forged rods. Good to hear about the turbo thou! I found one on the internet the other day for 1000 us. Was a little skeptical since i had never heard of a turbo for n52. 350-375 HP. (bimmerpartswheels)com , stage 1. I don't have a 3 stage manifold(325i) but i saw on Nathans garage a way to install one. Just needs programming. Which he said bmw doctor does. Right now fighting a check engine light 2A15. replaced the dmtl pump and gas cap and now will do the purge valve up front. Hope this solves it.

That sucks that you got the N52 without forged rods. I've got a 2007 328xi e90 that has the full forged internals from the factory; I wouldn't have to crack the engine open. I don't know why BMW didn't go full forged from the get go on the N52. Also on a side note I've seen custom turbo set ups on an N52 getting 400 to even 550 wheel horsepower. Now the one guy that got 550 wheel horsepower cracked a piston but he replaced it and it ran like new again.

I’ve bought my 2007 530i close to 4 years ago for a little under 5000 dollar I have gotten to replace some of the issues you’ve mentioned especially the leaks and as if today the only thing I’ve replace is the spark plugs and coils. It’s the same N52 you have I did have to take it earlier this year for the pcv valve cause it did melt so that and the manifold was replace and like I said it runs great. Thanks for these great helpful videos they help me a lot compared to these other youtubers I can honestly say your the best out there by far. Thank again keep up the great work and looking forward to a nexts one and yes my engine is stock what first modification you think I should do to it to gain a little bit more horsepower give me your advice thanks.

The 2.5L n52 in the coupe is different from the ones in the sedan. Stock Waterpump will live longer but still will brake (my broke at 260tkm) and its not burning oil.

I have a 06 330i with silver top. Bought it for 2000 with 180k. Just passed 200k with no problems with the engine. Very little oil consumption between oil changes. Put $1000 in new oem shocks and lower control arms. Reset all adaptations and it Drives like new.

ya I gotta agree I went from a 2005/6 330i 4 door to a 2007 335i so thats 40 hp more. Swear to god the 330i felt so much faster, holds your arse right to the back of the seats and feels MUCH faster than my 335i. at the end of the day the 335i will take over eventually but at that point you're already both over 130mph and you're both getting driving bans lol. 3330i is also mega good on fuel compared to a 335i. like im talking 24 mpg to 40 ish from the 330i. I also couldnt even sell my 330i for less than 2000 when i got it for 3000 from a dealer. and the 335i convert was like nearly 6 gs. so yeah owned both engines, if someone would trade me a 330i convertible with excact same spec as my 335i convertible id do it in a heart beat. love the vids dean

Dean I have a question had a630i in the shop today with n52 engine car automatic gearbox is stuck in 3rd gear ⚙️ and won’t shift up through the gears will go up to 3rd but and down from 3rd but won’t shift any higher than 3rd gear the lads are saying it’s electronic selector but I’m asking you since you are the expert please help doctor dean??

N51 ALL DAY. Already comes with the 3 stage intake. All you gotta do is tune it for the intake. Plus the extended 15 year warranty on the N51's will save you thousands of dollars!

I still have my 06 330i N52. The last of the breed. No turbo but the power and smoothness is just amazing. At 145k still going strong. Not in my life am I selling it. Lol

@@BMWDoctor I'll take it. Its one of the most awarded engines BMW has. Look it up. Far more refined that N52 and more powerful and economical. Granted it isn't naturally aspirated. But that in a 330d manual; awesome. I am not the only one either. Far from it. You said that about the M5, now you love it.

I agree it has won awards its a good engine, just not for me and I wont be getting any of them back on this channel I had it and just not for me. I'm not there for budget performance car if I want something powerful, well I have the N54 N55 OR B58 I still wouldn't go to a diesel I'm a petrol man. and yes there is a lot of people out there who has them but most its because they cant afford anything else so they want cheap bang for there buck, but realistically I dont need to be cheap as I can buy any car I want. lets face it you guys only see what I show you but I have 3 cars BMW E60 M5 BMW E60 530I MERCEDES C63 AMG which the C63 is my daily the rest are channel cars I'm not broke neither desperate to have to do that engine I did that engine in the start to drag all the subs and watch time needed as I was a new channel but now I don't need it any more. and the way things are going I doubt you will ever see another diesel on here again ! and also the majority that own that car either are working a regular job struggling and cant afford fuel costs , insurance , road tax costs and most are on council estates so I THINK NOT ! the same way the E46 got scrapped after I finished with it and made my money back was the same way that 535D got scrapped !

@@BMWDoctor i think you have some weird idea about how people perceive you. I am the essex man living in the USA. I've never had a problem buying any car I wanted. I bought a 330d in 2005 when I lived in the UK. It wasn't because I was cheap, I loved the sound of the 3 litre diesel, the power and the economy. Unfortunately I cannot buy that vehicle in the USA because of the shitty EPA. Buying a vehicle for fuel economy isn't just because I wanted to be cheap. Diesel is a much more efficient fuel and its a shame America hasn't embraced it, although they are starting to revive diesels here with the Chevrolet pickups now getting an inline 6 engine. I now have a 2007 530xi n52 and a 2005 e46 m54 330ci zhp. They are both excellent vehicles, however I still prefer the simplicity and power of the diesels. I used to have 335d too however I couldn't keep it because there's only so many cars I can have and after moving to North Dakota, I couldn't keep 2 rear wheel drive cars and to get the 530xi to get around in the nasty winters we have. So your reasoning why most people buy diesels is a poor assumption. Petrol here is about $2.20 ish premium a gallon. Its cheap. I don't hanker after a diesel because its cheap! Please understand that.

I have N52B25 in my e60 525xi 2005, and i can say, that it is the most shit engine from the bmw.. If you don't know what to do with your money, buy a car with this engine..
