The Dead Sea Scrolls are the greatest archaeological discovery of all-time. But, what does this discovery practically mean for Christians today? In this video I'm going to explore what the Dead Sea Scrolls are, how they were discovered, what exactly was discovered and why this discovery is so significant for us as Christians today.

@@thebeatagp I think there are some textual variants with theological significance in all manuscripts including the Qumran scrolls. On a related topic, have you ever considered addressing _theopneustos_ and why we have two different versions of Jeremiah? Jeremiah in the MT is one-eighth longer than the LXX and the order of the chapters differ dramatically. Was a scribe, after the time of Jesus, really inspired by God to rework and add to the sacred book of Jeremiah?

Why shouldn't we argue with people? I mean... you learn a lot from a debate, and can master different POVs to help you with converting people. Not everyone ought to argue, but some people are gifted at it, and that's part of their ministry is breaking down Satan's strongholds.
@twashington9983
@twashington9983 8 месяцев назад
@@BKNeifert Explaining and arguing are two different things. Explaining can easily go into the direction of arguing when emotions get involved. In a debate, two or more people have an equal chance to express their viewpoint on a topic in an attempt to win through persuasion. In an argument, 2 or more parties just want to be right regardless of if they are actually right or not.
@BKNeifert
@BKNeifert 8 месяцев назад
@@twashington9983I guess I'll accept that definition. I do think "Debate" is a sin. But, I also think when sharing the gospel, you're going to encounter debates, just like Jesus did. So, I think it's nuanced. I think the sin, as you mentioned, is not understanding the other point of view. As you see Jesus responded directly to the points his adversaries were making. He appropriately addressed the thread of the conversation, and the context behind it. Which is how we're supposed to address atheists, as there's no way they're going to be saved--some of them--unless they have their strongholds come down.

The more I've read about events like this archeological discovery, the more my faith and confidence in scripture has grown. I know I stand on solid ground and the Bible is reliable. The differences are just in translation and they tend to be so minor. The good thing about having different translations is it can help to understand a passge. For eg. suppose all we had was the KJV. The language is often times so archaic its hard to grasp the meaning of certain words. Comparing it with a modern translation like the ESV or NLT is beneficial personally - especailly when doing bible study.

You should read early church history. You will then discover that the early church believed the same things the Catholic Church believes today.
@MastaE2288
@MastaE2288 8 месяцев назад
@@stymiedagainfrom got questions: The Roman Catholic Church contends that its origin is the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ in approximately AD 30. The Catholic Church proclaims itself to be the church that Jesus Christ died for, the church that was established and built by the apostles. Is that the true origin of the Catholic Church? On the contrary. Even a cursory reading of the New Testament will reveal that the Catholic Church does not have its origin in the teachings of Jesus or His apostles. In the New Testament, there is no mention of the papacy, worship/adoration of Mary (or the immaculate conception of Mary, the perpetual virginity of Mary, the assumption of Mary, or Mary as co-redemptrix and mediatrix), petitioning saints in heaven for their prayers, apostolic succession, the ordinances of the church functioning as sacraments, infant baptism, confession of sin to a priest, purgatory, indulgences, or the equal authority of church tradition and Scripture. So, if the origin of the Catholic Church is not in the teachings of Jesus and His apostles, as recorded in the New Testament, what is the true origin of the Catholic Church? For the first 280 years of Christian history, Christianity was banned by the Roman Empire, and Christians were terribly persecuted. This changed after the “conversion” of the Roman Emperor Constantine. Constantine provided religious toleration with the Edict of Milan in AD 313, effectively lifting the ban on Christianity. Later, in AD 325, Constantine called the Council of Nicea in an attempt to unify Christianity. Constantine envisioned Christianity as a religion that could unite the Roman Empire, which at that time was beginning to fragment and divide. While this may have seemed to be a positive development for the Christian church, the results were anything but positive. Just as Constantine refused to fully embrace the Christian faith but continued many of his pagan beliefs and practices, so the Christian church that Constantine and his successors promoted progressively became a mixture of true Christianity and Roman paganism. Following are a few examples: Most Roman Catholic beliefs and practices regarding Mary are completely absent from the Bible. Where did those beliefs come from? The Roman Catholic view of Mary has far more in common with the Isis mother-goddess religion of Egypt than it does with anything taught in the New Testament. Interestingly, the first hints of Catholic Mariology occur in the writings of Origen, who lived in Alexandria, Egypt, which happened to be the focal point of Isis worship. The Lord’s Supper being a consumption of the literal body and blood of Jesus is not taught in the Bible. The idea that bread and wine are miraculously transformed into the literal body and blood of Jesus (transubstantiation) is not biblical. However, several ancient pagan religions, including Mithraism, which was very popular in the Roman Empire, had some form of “theophagy” (the eating of one’s god) as a ritualistic practice. Roman Catholicism has “saints” one can pray to in order to gain a particular blessing. For example, Saint Gianna Beretta Molla is the patron saint of fertility. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals. There are multiple patron saints of healing and comfort. Nowhere is even a hint of this taught in Scripture. Just as the Roman pantheon of gods had a god of love, a god of peace, a god of war, a god of strength, a god of wisdom, etc., so the Catholic Church has a saint who is “in charge” over each of these and many other categories. Many Roman cities had a god specific to the city, and the Catholic Church provided “patron saints” for cities as well. The idea that the Roman bishop is the vicar of Christ, the supreme leader of the Christian Church, is utterly foreign to the Word of God. The supremacy of the Roman bishop (the papacy) was created with the support of the Roman emperors. While most other bishops (and Christians) resisted the idea of the Roman bishop being supreme, the Roman bishop eventually rose to supremacy, again, due to the power and influence of the Roman emperors. After the western half of the Roman Empire collapsed, the popes took on the title that had previously belonged to the Roman emperors-Pontifex Maximus. Many more examples could be given. These four should suffice in demonstrating the origin of the Catholic Church. Of course, the Roman Catholic Church denies the pagan origin of its beliefs and practices. The Catholic Church disguises its pagan beliefs under layers of complicated theology and church tradition. Recognizing that many of its beliefs and practices are utterly foreign to Scripture, the Catholic Church is forced to deny the authority and sufficiency of Scripture. The origin of the Catholic Church is the tragic compromise of Christianity with the pagan religions that surrounded it. Instead of proclaiming the gospel and converting the pagans, the Catholic Church “Christianized” the pagan religions and “paganized” Christianity. By blurring the differences and erasing the distinctions, the Catholic Church made itself attractive to the idolatrous people of the Roman Empire. One result was the Catholic Church becoming the supreme religion in the Roman world for centuries. However, another result was the most dominant form of Christianity apostatizing from the true gospel of Jesus Christ and the true proclamation of God’s Word. Second Timothy 4:3-4 declares, “For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”

Just because Enoch was written long ago doesn’t make it canon. There was countless heresies back then. Ago doesn’t make something true, but the Dead Sea scrolls just confirm accuracy in our current Old Testament. I would do some research into Jewish canon, since they also reject the Septuagint.

@exaucemayunga22
@exaucemayunga22 8 месяцев назад
@MasonStPeter-oe8tu who picked the cannon books? People like you and I. There was many books and stories circulating in the time of he compilation of the Bible, and a group of people came together, picked wich books to make up the Bible and claimed they were inspired by God or the Holy Spirit. That's fair. But you'd think a book inspired by God wouldn't need any change or additions or removal of some texts, right? Guess what happened since then... Now we have different Bible cannons, different translations of those cannons, different bible versions, different interpretations, additions, removals, changes, editing, etc... And all this is done while knowing that 80% of those books are written by unknown authors. Some were even forged (did you know any of this?), how crazy is that? I suggest you go online and do some research on the book you put your trust in. The internet is free.

An excellent video and break down. Many years ago a friend of mine was in a university debate and asked to defend Christianity but they could not reference the Bible because it was not "Peer Reviewed." She was a little stumped by this but i always thought the answer was simple: establish the accuracy of the Bible then you can reference it. In my local church whenever we have an apologetics message or guest it's always incredibly well received and i think this is because Christianity is so heavily under attack and many people lack the knowledge to defend their faith at an intellectual level. In decades past this may not have been necessary but it certainly is now. I'll be showing this video to my life group and will gladly go with more church/scriptural history videos. Keep up the good work! I've recently found your channel and it's a breath of fresh air.

How crazy that the guy’s goat wandered off and by looking for him the Dead Sea Scrolls were found! It's similar to the 99 sheep and the shepherd!

The thing that drives me crazy about the DSS is when I'm trying to smooth out the differences between the LXX and the MT to see which one is more correct in a particular passage, so I'll go to use the DSS as the barometer. But guess what, that's *always* a fragment that's missing!😡

FACTS ABOUT ATHEISM, EVOLUTIONISM, AGNOSTICISM, CHRISTIANISM, and ALL FORMS of RELIGIOUS FANATICISM Atheists, Evolutionists, Agnostics, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and fanatic members of all kinds of Religions in the world are opposed, against, and don't accept that - 1. the Creator is the True and Sovereign God as written in Matthew 22: 37 and John 17: 3 2. Jesus Christ is the One given by the Creator all authority in heaven and on earth and sent from heaven to earth to preach and teach the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead" to imperfect, suffering, and dying human beings as written in Matthew 28: 18, Luke 4: 43 and John 11: 25, 26 3. all imperfect, suffering and dying human beings who freely and willingly submit to the authority of Jesus Christ and obey his teachings about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead" in obedience to what were written in Matthew 28:18, Luke 4: 43, and John 11: 25, 26 will definitely bring themselves honor and the loving, kind, and merciful Creator's favor and reward of ETERNAL LIFE and existence without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and death on a safe and peaceful earth without liars, perverts, traitors, the immoral, and murderers as written in Revelation 21: 3, 4, 8. 4. all human beings have no immortal souls and will just become worthless and useless dusts on earth after their deaths just like the animals as written in Ecclesiastes 3: 19, 20 ; 9: 5, 6 but all the loving, kind, and respectful worshippers of the Creator who died recently and thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Job, Naomi, Ruth, King David, Jesus Christ's disciples and followers, and many others will not remain as worthless and useless dusts on earth forever, instead, in the Creator's right and proper time and as written in John 11: 25, 26, Jesus Christ will gladly and willingly RESURRECT them back to life so they can all happily and abundantly live and exist on earth forever as submissive and obedient subjects of the "KINGDOM of GOD" and fully enjoy his and the Creator's eternal love, kindness, goodness, compassions, generosities, favors, and blessings for eternity under his loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection as the Creator's Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth as written in Revelation 11: 15.

Please do more videos about church history and Biblical archeology. I personally find it most helpful when response videos are given to people that don't give any authority to what the Bible says and would refute that historical accuracy that you're making claim to in this video. Thanks for your work.
