The more illogical he is, the more he appeals to his supporters, who believe logic, evidence, even common sense are the province of liberal intellectuals and prefer wild, inconsistent theories that can't be proved. I guess they didn't have a father like mine, who had to leave school at age 15 to work to support his widowed mother and younger siblings during the Depression, served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and would have seen through Trump in two seconds, like he saw through Goldwater, or a mother like mine, who also didn't finish high school and shouted at Nixon on the TV as Americans kept dying in SE Asia, when he claimed to have a secret plan to end the war (sound familiar? Trump/Ukraine?). "If you've got a secret plan to end the war then, go to the White House, present it to Johnson and save American lives!" Nixon's only secret plan was to connive with the corrupt South Vietnamese government not to start negotiations with the North before the election, allowing more Americans to die.

It seems more logical to bring his sanity into question and put him in a nursing home. That's another way you could stop him without putting him in jail. If he's not competent enough to run a country he's not competent enough to be president and if he is competent that would eventually get him in trouble too because a president is making a promise to obey the constitution not to re write it.

If I were being interviewed for any job and were asked about my ability to work with people who are not my friends or family, stating that I cannot work well with others would reduce or eliminate my chances of being hired by any company. This realization leads me to believe that our intuition about the existence of different rules of engagement for different people is probably accurate. Given that, I can't solely rely on common sense to establish rules, and we need to have constant checks on those people with power and longstanding institutional systems. WILLINGLY.
