For anyone watching in 2023 thinking of buying one of these, do it! I've had the '05 model since 2006 and it's hands down the best guitar I've played. Comfortable to play with the cutaway, great pickups and solid tuning stability. The neck for me though is the kicker, feels great to play!
I just found one in my country second hand for $2300, should I get that one or a brand new Sterling by Music Man MAJ200XSM which comes with Petrucci's pickups as well and save 500 dollars compared to the Jp6?
I agree with this. I run a compressor in my clean channel to help even it out but without a compressor it is very noticeable. That’s one thing that PRS does a little better than most companies. There’s less of a noticeable difference.
Hey Zack, I just started following your channel, I really dig your tour vlogs. You should do a video on your In Ear rig and how you guys do your monitors when playing different venues.
Thank you so much for following! Love doing the tour vlogs. Yeah I can fit that into the vlog for next month for sure. I’ll run down the system for you.
Cool video. To be completely honnest I'm not a huge fan of your rythm magnetic tone here (the crunch lab had way more low end in my memories) but the cleans and piezo combined are out of this world. The Count of Tuscuny is one of my all time favorite DT song and I'm glad your picked some parts of it for your demo.
The Count of Tuscany is my favorite DT song❤️ And yeah tone is very subjective. When double tracked with bass you get a much bigger sound for sure. I always low pass 60-80Hz to prevent any mud and flub from getting through!
So far, it's stood the test of time. I was concerned putting my JP6 BFR in C-standard from the crunchlab being more muddy then his other dimarzio's. But if you have a good amp and setting, the guitar can bring you back to the early 2000's Petrucci sound. Was so impressed I had to do a review with it.
Definitely still lives up to the hype I have the jp BFR 7 aswell as 2 majesty 7’s and I find myself still playing the jp7 just as much as the newer models.
100% agree! My majesty has been my main guitar for over 3 1/2 years, but after having this for just two weeks or so I can easily say that it’s one of my favorite guitars ever!
I had my JP6 built to order in 2017 with Chrome hardware. I got my JP7 2019 which was an in stock model with the flat black finish hardware. The JP7 felt pretty stale out of the box until I did a full setup.
@@ZackSeifMusic I bought my JP100D used (perfect condition) at Guitar Center out of impulse about a year and a half ago or so. Boy is it fantastic. Tuning stability is PHENOMENALLY better than I would've expected for the $600 I spent. Mine can take quite a bit of abuse before being much out of tune. I've changed the tone pot out with a push/push for coil split for even more versatility. I've purchased numerous other guitars and kept some, but sold many from PRS, Schecter, Ibanez, Epiphone, and more... and I can tell you if I had to get rid of all my guitars except for one, I'd be stuck between the JP100D or my Majesty 6 and 8 string. I think there's a reason they don't make the JP100D anymore, and it really sucks. They were just that good.
💚I got the identical JP6 as yours one year before, are you sure the bridge PU is not a D sonic instead of a crunch lab? mine is a D sonic. Ours in the years, somewhat overlap the d-sonic BFR Crunch lab swap. I wasn’t even aware that ours had a crunch labs swap, is it even true? Any info? The JP 15 on the website states it’s a crunch lab I believe but since ours are the original I would assume it’s a D sonic. Edit. What I explained about the pick ups is sort of the same story with stainless steel frets. are yours stainless steel? because mine is in the shop right now, and it is been brought to my attention that mine is not stainless steel.
Hey there! I was able to identify the pick ups because I took them out of the guitar when I got them and the numbers match according to DiMarzio Also I know that mine has stainless steel frets, because there was absolutely zero wear on them when I got it. If they had nickels, I would've absolutely seen some signs of wear considering the guitar was thirdhand by the time I got it, plus it was around a decade old.
I have a JP60 I owned since 2020. Good guitar though ran into some fret sprout issues. A guy I bought a Carvin DC400 from is selling a candy apple red JP6, though it's well used. It also has dot inlays instead of the shield inlays. Wondering if I should purchase it, really tempted cause I really do wanna see how good a real deal JP6 is
Fret sprout is common in most areas especially as the humidity and weather changes. Any competent tech can clean it up for you :) $2500 US? Too much for a JP6 in North America. Depends on where you live.
just found your channel - excellent content, keep it up! I own a majesty and in general I am a big fan of music man guitars. Would love to own a JP15 7string!
I've been lucky enough to try top tier PRS and Parker but i've never traded my JP6 since 2008. Perfect electronic but the real deal is the neck. It's even more comfortable (to me) than the brands i've named. Also have a JPXI-7 and bought, 3 years ago, a Cutlass Jason Richardson 7 that i even feel better with. And just because i'm insane i just received a JP15. Same feeling with the crazy neck. The illuminator pickups seems more precise to me. I've been struggling between JP15 and Majesty but finally chose the 1st one because i prefer natural finish when it comes to the back of the neck (feels quicker to me and must be the main reason i didn't have such a crush with the JPXI-7). To put it quick MM guitars are god tier (sure not cheap though...) and i'd be curious to try the Luke and Kaizen models.
New to your channel and enjoying your content! What are your thoughts on the piezo trem systems on Prs and music man? Specifically sound of the piezo and stability/functionality of the trem?
Many thanks Jamie!!! I enjoy the Musicman JP piezo over the Majesty. The PRS was very rich as well. Trem stability is all in the setup! I love how my JP15 and CU24-08 play.
I just found one in my country second hand for $2300, should I get that one or a brand new Sterling by Music Man MAJ200XSM which comes with Petrucci's pickups as well and save 500 dollars compared to the Jp6?
I also find the center single coil position sounds best on the JP6 than any other model. Love the guitar love the pickups. However I'm still not 100% certain what the bridge pup is on mine. I think mine is a 2014. Do you know?
I've heard they also used the D-Sonic in the bridge pickup and that's what I'm wondering about. I want to slap the original Jp6 pickups in a Custom Shop Agostin LP but I don't want the later pickups. I found a D-Sonic and crunch lab, so I'll try them both to see which it is.
Tremolno It is a device that allows you to keep the tremolo bridge from moving, kind of converting into a hard tail guitar, however it's probably the worst device I've ever used and I recommend using an alternative method to do this
@@ZackSeifMusic the funny thing is that I asked Music Man and they claim the neck carve thickness is the same and that only the radius is different. I tried a Majesty, JP15 and JP6 and they all felt different to me. Even trying three different JP15’s the neck carve all felt different. I guess because they are hand sanded in the final stages.
Granted I’ve never played custom shop instruments so I can’t compare to those but there is no production guitar that feels better than a JP I’m gonna be in the market for a 7 stringer around March and I’m not looking at anything but a JP7 because my 6 is just too good The only exception would be a Nebula Majesty but budget will not allow for that 🤣
Musicman guitars are such high quality they blow some of my customs out of the water. I WISH I could afford a Nebula lol😂 Best of luck on your search!!
HI Zack! Im trying to decide whether to buy JP6 (used 1500€) or a new PRS Se Custom 24 08 (899€). Do you have any advice which do you think is better and why? Supposedly the JP6 should be better because of higher price. But ive heard and read so well about the PRS 24 08 and that your getting a guitar that is worth a much higher price than their asking for. So they seam to me to be in the same league! Since you have both Can you offer any help? Thanks in Adavance
Of course! So I own an American Custom 24-08 (see my latest video!) and of course the JP6. The JP6 is a bolt on, the CU24 is a set neck. The CU is easier to play on the highest frets. JP has lower action. JP may or may not have the acoustic piezo. PRS has the coil tapping for each pick up. This makes it more versatile. The JP pickups are pretty hot so they aren’t so good for lighter styles of music. I think they’re both fantastic guitars and both will help you achieve great results musically. I enjoy both guitars a lot. I think the PRS is the better buy, but the JP6 will play a little bit better. Either guitar will be a great buy. All depends on what you’re looking for in a guitar and what you’ll use it for.
