Have you heard of the mud flat near Anchorage? When the tide goes out, people get curious and start walking on the mud flats not knowing how dangerous they can be. People have gotten stuck in the mud and needed to be rescued before the next tide came in.

Be very careful, especially around Turnagain and Anchorage. If you want an Alaskan beach, go to the Spit in Homer, anywhere in Southeast or West Alaska. That "mud" is silt deposited by the Glaciers that permeate the region. Anchorage is built on this stuff and we have earthquakes, so, no tall buildings.

There are a couple of freaky stories that I heard as a kid. One was about a duck hunter that sank into the mud. His last desperate effort was to break his double barrel shotgun and use it for a snorkel. The other story was a rescue attempt using a helicopter. They tossed the guy a line which he tied around himself and when they tried to pull him out, he was torn in half.

I've lived in Alaska for 57 yrs and not once have I ever been stupid enough to walk in the mudflats because it's dangerous and has been deadly. Anyone on here that says its safe and to "stay calm" is out of their damn mind. This shit is no joke and those who claim to have done it have been unbelievably lucky. Best advice: JUST DON'T DO IT, PERIOD, esp if u want to live...🤔

Man the mud flats are somethin else. I remember when I was little we used to ride 4wheelers with our aunt, we went out near a river and had to go over a mid flat. As we were turning around, the 4wheeler got stuck, and we spent around 6 hours waiting to get picked up. During the process, we got another truck stuck in the mud from the front wheels, and that also had to get pulled out. By the time we had gotten home, the 4wheeler was completely sunk into the mud, and my sister lost one of her shoes
