Great review of my favorite movie musical!

I’m an American who was working and living in London for a year in the mid eighties. This movie was, of course, nothing like my state-side life, but I never felt more homesick than the time it was shown on television.

At no detriment to the film as a whole, my favorite thing in it is the dance number “the Shipoopi”…it may have been the 11 o’ clock number in the Broadway show- a rouser meant to signal immanent plot tie-ups-but in the film it’s a choreographed, lightning- paced wonder.

Sinatra wanted to star in the movie but Jack Warner was smart he went with Robert Preston

Paul Ford was hilarious in this and in The Russians Are Coming he was great in these roles.

This movie should have been a cautionary tale and they missed the entire point because in the 1960s they had to have a happy ending... There's no "happy ending" with trump.
