Hello, to the best subscribers out there! In this video, Gels gets personal with his love hate relationship with the Rotary Engine. Especially the one in his Mazda RX8. All jokes aside, the rotary engine is one for braping. Its loud, fast and sounds like nothing you've never heard before. Mazda really neutered themselves trying to meet emissions standards. Rob Dahm's channel is super enlightening on even small things that can basically double or triple the life of a rotary.

Owning an RX8 as a first car was so much fun and I haven’t had anymore fun in any other car!!!… but 😂.. owning a rotary is such a pain that I won’t get another one because we’ll I don’t feel like dropping so much money lol and doing constant maintenance!.. still will be forever a great car that I got to experience 🫡.

The level of maintenance alone would detour any casual car person. A friend of mine foolishly bought one and didnt even know you're supposed to warm up the engine before driving. I dont drive rotary and even i know that.

My Rotary engine, is still alive and kicking in my RX 8... You just have to know how to take care of them, and yes they are not ideal, as a daily driver.

Mazda had to conform to the pathetic EPA crap to be able to continue the rotary vehicles hence the redesign of the engine and no turbo. I was never super keen on the RX8 but it grew on me slowly until a year ago when I bought one. It’s better than the RX7 once you transplant a 13B REW. It has better safety, better tech, more comfortable, quieter, more room and looks not quite as sexy as FD its not a bad looker

The rotary engines does not have a reliability issue. It has an “amateur can enthusiast” ownership problem.

Actually the RX-9 came way before the RX 7 in the form of the Mazda Luce/929 with the rotary engine. But back then it wasn’t called like that 😂. I am curious though if Mazda will follow suit with the rx-8 body and either a newer rotary or a piston engine, preferably from the Mazda 6/3. In my opinion the 3 has the body of the 8 while the 6 has the power.

Ik that the rotary is wanted for the next sports coupe from Mazda but y not look into the turbo inline 6 from the cx90, could be potential there even if it’s a suv but that engine couple be a hidden gem👀

Last i checked, the rotary for that design was only meant to act like a charger for the electric motors. It wasn't meant to actually power the car like an engine would. It could have changed since last i checked though. Its been a while.

Because old people remember rotary engines being where the cylinders were in a RADIOUS on aircraft and early early (like 1890-1920s cars). Those were the original and definitionally rotary engines, wankel would be more genuine and more honest to what that man designed.

The main issue with rotary engines is the idiots that treat them like piston engines, this is what leads to reliability issues! Just think the mazda lemans car ran for 24hrs without any engine wear, where as the piston engines required rebuilding.
