It was in the second Lego Indiana Jones 3DS game and that's where I first heard it so whenever I heard it I was like "why is everyone copying Lego Indiana Jones" 🤣
I remember “my leg” mostly from spongebob, then I was surprised later in life when I started paying more attention to sound effects and shit when I heard it fuckin everywhere
I've had many sleepless nights, where I just hear it... Over and over... It's taunting me... haunting me.... I wake up, shoot up to sit straight in my bed, sweat running down my back and I yell "WILHELM!" Duh, of course it's just hilarious bruh, because it's so out of place makes it funny.
Hilariously, I heard it recently in Admiral, a Dutch war film (A guy lets out the Wilhelm scream as he's blown off an enemy ship from cannon blasts). This joke is no longer limited to Hollywood or America.
Ikr. I caught it unsuspected during the final twilight movie. Made my night honestly. And I got to tell my gf about it right after the movie. She loved it.
The Wilhelm Scream is more than just a sound effect, it's part of traditional movie culture passed down from movie to movie. It's part of the cycle of life.
Any shot in a school today always has to use the same obligatory bell sound to signal "school", even when kids are just hanging out by their lockers. We like to call it the Wilhelm Bell! It's also related to the Wilhelm Cat used for jump scares.
It's weird how it always feels slightly out of place these days in most modern and some older films, but the first use of it seems to work extremely well.
It has gotten a bit crazy, but still one of my favorite sound effects. It being so stupid and goofy is part of what I like about it. But I don’t think it needs to be used in many modern films. It definitely fits certain ones more than others.
You'd never notice it because it's brief and used in segments where you won't pay too much attention. I didn't realized it was used in infinity war until I saw this video..
Honestly, this scream doesn't bring enjoyment, on the contrary an irritation, cuz it way too overused. I think this scream should be avoided, its a bad taste, and ruins the immersion into the movie immediatly
I've heard this scream everywhere, even in videogames. I had no idea what it was called, so i googled "That one scream" and a ton of pages about the Wilhelm scream came up!
they answer the question at 2:02. The answer is: its easier to use an existing sound effecting rather than recreating it. feel free to skip the whole useless video
i doubt that modern day directors actually use this sound effect to save money lmao, they invest millions and millions of dollars into movies. i most definitely see it as an inside joke between directors, it’s hilarious to hear it in a movie, instantly recognizable and funny
Honestly that scream effect bothers me, since I hear it so much it tends to make the movie seem lower budget, there's like a million different scream effects they could use and the AUGHH is what they choose even today
VICTOR Å he mentions in the vid that people at first used it as a recycled sound but now people use it because it’s well known and you wouldn’t expect it in many situations
There's an "ooof!" that pops up repeatedly, too. Usually when somebody falls down. And, for the record, there's a kind of metallic "zing" used far too often when anybody draws a sword. Or a dagger. Or a bowie knife. Or any kind of knife including butter and putty. Or a screwdriver. Or a letter opener. Or tweezers. Or a golf club. I swear I heard it when somebody removed a kebab skewer. "Got a paper clip?" "Sure!" Zing. I don't care where that sound comes from. I just want it to stop.
@@megazoned3973 I get it. But, really, there is one specific zing I hear over and over and it's so overused it's hilarious. Somebody pulls a screwdriver out of a tool belt... Zing! In the 90s I saw a catalog of thousands of sound effects on maybe a dozen or more cds available only to pros. Probably in there somewhere. Still like to have those.
Since I discovered this years ago, I always get a little smile whenever I unexpectedly hear it in a movie. Like an inside joke and little wink from the director to the people watching that know of it. I put one in my fan fiction audio drama :p
I think it fits in its original scene from 1951, and in no other movie ever. It’s too long for quick deaths nowadays, stands out too much in the many layers of sound design modern action movies have, and it feels like the movie isn’t taking itself seriously. All in all, I both really like it for its iconic status, and really dislike it for everything I just said
I heard the scream before but after seeing this video I hear it in soooooo many movies now its like if a movie doesn’t have this scream then the movie is no bueno!
