You're missing some big points in that comparison. 1. This is a tritoon design which is inherently going to ride better/faster/safer than 2 round, non lifting toons. 2. This boat does not require an additional 3' of storage space for the outboard/well. 3. These are very lightweight, towable by most 3 row crossovers.
Yes you could tune the 1630 from 100hp to 170hp naturally aspirated. Slap a supercharged setup and another tune and you could get 230hp to 300hp. A lot of manufacturers do it. Kawi does it with the ultra. Same motor just a supercharged added and tune. Yamaha 1.8l supercharger and tune. It’s nothing new. I’d be more curious what it would cost for the supercharged setup for it.
The fact they made deck configuration changeable is about as huge as it gets for me. When you can go from cruise to fish in less than 5 minutes or really even at all, I am SOLD! Too bad the big toon builders never in all their years came up with that yet seadoo does it on their first toon. Once again.....Sold! Thank you SeaDoo!
as to your last question: the answer is: YES. please purchase 2 of these. one being the lowest end, the other being the 230HP. and i promise to sub and watch the comparison drag race between a tuned up 1630 ACE 100HP and a 1630 ACE 230 HP! can't wait.
Even after I clicked build and "pre-order" at the end of everything it still turns out to be 21k, obviously this is going to be 17.9 from dealers though... I got it after though
@@jRoundHouseNinja yes they do, i recently built another and sent it over for quoting. calling up the dealer this weekend and maybe sending a pre-order for the 5 person 100hp switch
its probably a cam and tune, but and this is a big but if you can find a totalled rxpx and get the cams and supercharger do a rebuild on the supercharger maybe see if the waterflow on the cooling is different get that 13 foot pontoon to 350+ hp
@@WeTryMotorsports also you can do the tried and true gear change on the supercharger and probably blow the engine up but try for 400+ hp especially if you go to a machine shop and have them grind you a hotter cam maybe do some overlap and new headers for the exhaust
The Bass pro shop pontoon is junk compared to the switch and has HALF the horse power!! I think they look AWESOME! A lot more of the younger crowd would buy these because of the "cool" factor I believe
My concern would be if I purchase a switch rated for 100hp and then aftermarket tune it to170hp 250hp or 300hp am I compromising the structural integrity of this vessel putting my friends and family at risk of a structural catastrophic failure at 50mpr. Before I got on the internet and claimed this was a good idea I would want to ensure that motor bolstering and structural design of all the switch models are identical regardless of the HP ratings.
100 and 170 internals are exactly the same. 230 may have very slight changes via torque specs and mild upgrades internally, but mostly everything is the same. I ended up getting the 170 instead of the 100 because the add-on items to the sport were the same cost, plus the Bimini will be like 2500 alone. Anyways I put a few newer videos out on it
I was able to get the configuration at $17999 so I’m not sure what you were missing. I think you inadvertently reselected 16ft as shown in your video when you get to the pre-order screen.
They changed the site following, I'll do a follow up video but before when you clicked "customize" it would only do $21k minimum. It was fixed a few hours later
@@WeTryMotorsports awesome! Thank you. Where are you located? Perhaps we could collaborate and we could try foiling behind it? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tgG35D1S1rI.html
I think people are going to tune them and super charge them. I'm gonna have to have the sport compact and just as soon as the warranty is out it's on from then on I'm going to have more power 😈
I have a story regarding the switch that I ordered that I think you would find very interesting. I was wondering if I could explain this to you by phone, or at least by email?
I just read your email and I have an extremely similar story as well. In fact it is almost identical, however I tried with multiple dealerships. I'm debating putting out a video but it will do dealers and Sea-Doo a disservice but I am coming from a customer point of view that I want to get this point across. I'll certainly use you as an example if you are okay with it and if you'd like I can also shout your channel.
problematic carbon seal, Clear sides that are made like Jeep wrangler soft top windows that will cloud up over time, over priced accessories, handle bars? why not a nice steering wheel with paddle like shifters for braking? pontoons are for kicking it and cruising NOT driving it like a motor cycle.. It's a nice try but needs way more thinking to make it right..
yep the accessories remind me of EA - add ons can be stupid expensive. although pontoons are for leisure, why not make a high performance one? i think it would be a blast lol. going to see a lot of these upside-down though haha
Probably simpler and more cost effective to pull from their already in production parts than stock dealers nationwide with all new replacement bits. The pontoon seems to be a major improvement on production time and costs using injection molding and synthetic materials over hand built/welded aluminum and marine plywood
Ace Ventura?! A.C.E. stands for Advanced Combustion Efficiency so it's more an acronym than a word. If I called it Ace like a name, I'd get far more hate lol
Turn it into a fishing platform with spot lock trolling motor, shallow water anchor, fish finder and i-Pilot. SeaDoo could knock a home run by offering a state of the art fishing package from the factory. Imagine how inexpensive it could be if SeaDoo negotiated the right deal with Minn Kota, Hummingbird and Motor Guide. Before long there would be SeaDoo fishing tournaments. SeaDoo could put pressure on the entire leisure boating industry with this innovation.
First thing I thought of when I saw this. Stick a live well in there somewhere. Ideally down low like their storage locker. However maybe a quick lock set up like the seats. Not sure how they would handle the plumbing to it though. It would make a nice fishing platform. Pretty unique boat that marks a lot of checkmarks on the list. One boat does all kind of design. I see why there is such a demand for these. My wife figures we should wait a couple of years as there is no doubt some improvements coming from the original. Give them a chance to engineer all the bugs out. No design is perfect from inception so in a couple of years they should be even better.
I highly doubt you will see people tuning these to those numbers, and if they do the engines won't last long. The 250-300ish motors are forged internals. Something with 100ish hp is getting cast junk internals
These are gonna sell like hot cakes. A seadoo with seating for 5-9 will be very desirable. If the kinks are worked out, which they should be being the motor is a common lineup, you’re gonna see these everywhere. Seadoo nailed it here.
This boat looks awesome. We can't wait to get to an auto show to see it in person. I think the additional cost is due to accessories they have added like the coolers, storage bags, and console bags. If you take them out it pulls the price down a bit. That starting at price is bare-bones - like no chairs, floor mats, mirrors or anything..
I was able to build one for $17,999. Just choose Compact then click the "Continue without bundle" oval button. You might need to do it on the computer website as opposed to the mobile version on a phone. My wife swears she saw a Seadoo Swith go by on a trailer as we were driving in Pasco Washington today. I barely got a glimpse at it so I couldn't be %100 sure. Looked like a blue Switch to me.
probably going to be around the 170-200hp mark as that would be the same about as the gti/gtx170 that dont have a supercharger, where as the gtx 230 has a supercharger either way going to be fun watching these out at the lake next year. probably could buy the base model 100hp throw a supercharger on it and push 300hp
We just pre-ordered here in Manitoba, Canada Only one dealer allowed to sell and limited to 15 units. I called 2 days after seadoo live video on 2022 models. They already had 10 spoken for, so good thing I called. I had a few builds lined up but realized same thing about engine, so we went with the 18 foot cruise with just about every option and 100hp. So after warranty is over I’ll get it flashed/tuned to at least 170hp and maybe higher we’ll see. But getting the 100hp saved $6,000 right on build package compared to 170hp 🤷♂️
Bass Pro’s boat price excludes the trailer while the SeaDoo Switch includes the trailer so yes, even at $20k, it’s still cheaper. But don't forget that BRP also adds a Commodity Surcharge on all its products. I would guess between $2,500 & $3,500. So while their initial MSRP is low, it still costs you the same in the end. My I/O 4.3 l Merc only does 190 hp so the 230 should move that rig pretty good, but that 300 hp tune would be nice.
i can see these things all over the Gulf coast of Florida as the perfect boats for the rental market. Boat clubs can make bank using these boats. very smart keeping the cost down.... they will change the market.
You won't be able to tune the 1630 ACE Engine to 250HP without a supercharger/turbo. The most you'll be able to get is around 170HP if it's Naturally Aspirated (Which is the highest HP Naturally Aspirated engine in the Seadoo lineup). The 230HP and 300HP 1630 ACE engines are both supercharged I also don't think most people will tune it. Sure, some will tune it, but most people who buy one will have no idea what engine it has, or that turning the engine is even an option
i was under the impression the 230hp was NA (based on the web information at the time). however, the 100/170 will certainly be able to be tuned over 200hp. 250 was an estimate based off it being NA, we're more likely to see 200ish
Excited to say I'm getting the sport 18ft for family fun and I personally can't wait to put to my fishing challenge and I have no doubt it's going to be an amazing machine point blank, have a Blessed day everyone
It’s just different. Jet boat will plain and accelerate a lot faster then prop boats but top end speed isn’t as much. With the 21ft 230HP the top end is around 44MPH which is pretty good for a pontoon. The 170 in a 18ft will be in the mid 30s. I’ve owned a couple Yamaha boats and several jet skis. I think this will be a great first boat! It’s light and easy to tow with most SUVs. I don’t think you would be disappointed.
@@hobanm45 100hp on a Jet drive vs propeller setup is different Jet setup needs 30% ~ more power to equate to the same level of performance So a 130 hp jet drive setup would be the same as a 100hp propeller setup This is due to Jet drives relying on thrust to get going. Also keep in mind they burn more gas I had Yamaha wave runners and a sea doo speedster 150 - 155
You make a good point. When I bought my Sparks back in 2016 I got the two ups but with the 90HP motors. Not long after there were tunes available from a lot of places that could easily get you 110HP. If I had known then what I found out later I would have ordered the 60HP versions and just tuned them for about a forth of what it cost me to get the upgrade from Sea-Doo
May not be the cheapest but maybe it is. The difference between the Sea Doo price and Bass Pro is the Sea Doo includes a trailer and double or even triple the HP.
Outboard manufacturers have always done the same thing with their engines. Same block, displacement, etc. with different hp ranges. For example, the supercharged Merc Verado pro L6 came in 200, 225, 250, 275, & 300 hp. All had the same specs.
Yes, Bass Pro has a cheaper boat but....... that's not including price of trailer which all Sea Doo pontoons come with not to mention your going to be buying a 60 hp motor and lets be honest who wants a top speed of 15 mph. Also use that Bass Pro pontoon for 3 or 4 years then replace all the rotted wood under seats in floor ext. You will never have to do that with the Sea Doo pontoon. Plus Sea Doo just looks cool.
The engine setup reminds me of the Sea doo speedsters (which I happen to have a 2011 150 - 155hp) They had 155 215 255 The engine setup goes from base with cast internal components and very minimal performance To Forged pistons, bigger fuel rail, bigger injectors, added supercharger & plus size supercharger, Aggressive tune and added intercooler etc. Combine this with wider pump diameter, this allows Sea Doo to make the ‘same’ engine but make it configurable for everyone which keeps cost of production down.
@@WeTryMotorsports but you said in the video that people were going to put a tune on the 100hp engine and crank it up to 250hp. All I'm saying is that's not possible with a na engine.
@@Dshawkins1984 information at the time of release was the 230 horsepower engine was NA, as in the description it was edited based on information at the time. The 100 horsepower engine is possible to tune just over 200. 250 can still be achieved with 100 horsepower motor if forced induction is introduced, either way that little 12 and 1/2 ft pontoon boat is going to be an absolute game changer with that power.
Going from 100 hp to 300, or 230 for that matter, can be as simple as a tune, can it? Even throwing a supercharger on it, and doubling the HP seems crazy.
The 100 is a detuned 170, for production purposes all the Sea-Doo machines use the same motor. The 100 horsepower is detuned, the 170 is modest. The 230 is modestly supercharged. The 300 is safely supercharged. There are differences between the 100 and the 300 internally but not many. Check out the new video on this, the 100 can be tuned to 200 safely.
You can get it for $17,999 I hate it when you think your an expert when your not . It’s called options !!! You delete the factory added options otherwise it’s a $21k boat. They / sea doo is nickel and dimming peeps on upgrades. You got to be vigilant and also know your obligated to get the sun shade $899 upgrade. But coolers and cup holders and all of the in between that’s what makes the boat pricey. As for the $18k bass pro bass buggy - no comparison- a 40-50 hp motor - hated and dated typical pontoon -.money better spent even at $21k doing sea doo cause of the power , outdrive , name and resale. These sea doo switch will hold value way better that most boats.
The bass pro one is not going to be as fast or nimble... Also if you click the continue without options button (right above the 3 packages) it's 17,999$... The packages add creature comforts
I already know the problems with these. You better 100 % get warranty and the best insurance or you will be paying out your ass for shit.. try to get them to tell the problem they discovered. I guarantee you no dealer will or knows.
Hey the price is over $18k because all the options that seadoo pre selected un check the stuff you dont need to lower price i got a 170hp compact sport down to $23k so far the hell that not included the crappy $900 radio 🤣
@@WeTryMotorsports nice in the vid you could explain tunes , pros and cons of x amount HP and supercharger maintains ,wear tear ,gas consumption maybe how much hp to add so the motor last longer etc
I hoping that you realised your error on the video. That you're actually pricing the mid size switch and not the compact. That's why your prices are out of wack. The compact regular switch DOES have a starting price of $17,999
Same block, not the same motor. I believe the internals are different on the supercharged variants. I would expect the NA versions of the engine to last significantly longer than the supercharged versions as the block is overbuilt relative to the power output.
If you get the 100hp version you can’t get a Bimini top. Sea doo made it where the top that fits on the other Switch models won’t fit on the base boat. You gave to get the 170hp sport.
