Why the Sith's Version of the 'Chosen One' Prophecy was so Confusing 

Palpatine: "How the hell am I supposed to figure this prophecy out!? Screw it, I'll just recruit the Jedi's Chosen One and just say mission accomplished."

Last I was this early Palpatine and Plageuis hadn't yet pissed off the Force so much it literally made a kid to kill them

It's funny, in a sense the Sith's Chosen One paved the way for the Jedi's Chosen One

I was always under the impression the Chosen One from the Sith is the final Sith Lord, after all these years of accumulated knowledge the stronger apprentice slays the weaker master, when every apprentice is unable to slain the one master, that is the true Sith Lord.

You know I'm starting to think the Sith just take whatever the Jedi are doing, change it just enough to sound sufficiently evil and then just call it a day.

I have to say i really like darth banes approach to the sith code, he achieves freedom through the force while the other sith lords shakle themselves because they are blinded by their ambitions

I like the joke that every single Sith Lord in history is convinced that they are the Sith'ari. The hubris and the arrogance, and now I have an excuse to write a Sith who is convinced that she is the Sith'ari. On a more serious note, ever notice that the two prophecies don't contradict each other?

I always thought that Anakin was the Chosen one of the force, not necessarily the light or the dark. He helped destroy the Jedi and then, with the help of his son, destroyed the Sith which freed the force of all the old traditions and allowed Luke Skywalker to become the true instrument of the force.

Darth Bane: You think you're a sith lord but you merely adopted the dark side. I was born in the dark side moulded by it.

What if the "Sith'ari" and the jedi "chosen one" are the same prophecy, but after thousands of years of mistranslation and bias it became 2 prophecies? Each to reflect light and dark? I've read the darth bane trilogy and while I enjoyed the books greatly (read them all at least 3 times) I never thought of Bane as the Sith'ari

It would have been interesting to see how things would be different had Bane's essence transfer attempt succeeded in his fight with Zannah.

The chosen one, was to destroy both the sith and jedi, but they thought only one would be destroyed, as we saw with anakin.

It’s my personal belief that the Sith Chosen One was also Anikin mostly because that would be funny.

Bane may be the dark chosen one but I think Revan deserves an honorable mention for being so awesome

Imagine a ship is shot down by chance with two Sith lords aboard. Boop, the Sith go by by.

In my opinion Darth Bane does seem to fit the criteria for the chosen one of the Sith best. But I also think this prophecy is intended (not just by writing, but also in the Star Wars universe) to be easily applied on sithlords. The Sith are eager for power. Most of the Sith seeing themselves as a chosen one just fits the way they act and its benefits them. If you want to be someone who can be "the chosen one" you need to become quite powerful, what means many Sith craved even more for power. All of this can create powerful Lords who represent the force of the dark side. In some way it's like an horoscope, easy to be construed in many ways to appeal to as many people as possible.

I’d argue that it was Vader. Perhaps this prophecy of a “chosen one” predates the separation of Jedi and sith from their origin species/civilization. The Jedi thought it would someone who destroyed the Sith. Vader did that. The Sith thought it would be someone who overthrew the republic and destroy the Jedi order. Vader was instrumental with the former and did the latter.

all of this makes perfect sense, in fact as soon I saw translation of the prophecy I was like - Bane as he is the only character I know that purposefully destroyed Sith Order of his time and recreated it, and its thanks to him that Uncle Shiv eventually became the Senate

What’s the Sith’s version? There will be a Darth who says “Hello there General Kenobi?” Because that would be way overpowered

A few of the Sith after Bane did break the Rule: Count Dooku had Ventress while he was still the apprentice to Sidius, Vader had Starkiller.

What if... Darth Sidious was literally every “Sith that came before me” in that every individual in the Banite line of Sith was actually Bane’s soul being passed from Master to Apprentice?

There can be made many reasonable assumptions as to who the Sith'ari is/was. Logic dictates that the final Sith would be the one. The one who destroys all the Sith and then, forever, rules alone, because he has no more need of a successor, nor a need for others to share in with his supreme power. In this regard, no Sith alive or dead fits this promised description. Revan redefined the core ideas of the Sith about what mastership and apprenticeship means for a Sith, but failed to build anything lasting. Vitiate built a long-lasting empire, but ultimately failed when he died like all before him. Bane restructured the Sith and destroyed what came before him, but he died and was not the most powerful. Palpatine brought about a victory 1000 years in the making but a simple betrayal that could have been foreseen destroyed him. All of these would be, at first glance, valid choices for the Sith'ari, but their legacy is, ultimately, one of failure. None of them had perfect power, perfect destiny. None of them build ever-lasting empires, were immortal or unbeatable. They all accomplished grand things, yes... But so far, the Sith'ari has yet to appear, and may never appear.

Ngl, the fact that Bane’s adoration and respect for the dark side of the force is what drove him makes him one of the coolest with lords.

Every sith ever: "maybe I'm him"

When you talk about darth Bane you pulled up an image of darth Malgus, from SWTOR. There is a canonical image of darth Bane as a force ghost/spirit, from the clone wars series, it was one of the final episodes and detailed Yoda learning how to keep his consciousness after death.

I always interpreted it as two different prophecies from two different orders about the same person, the Chosen One and the Sith’ari are the same person and the Jedi and Sith predicted the same events, they just saw it all through different tinted glasses and their interpretations were wildly different. So the answer to both prophecies is Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. More interesting/amusing to me are the internal conflicts over the Sith’ari prophecy within the Sith orders, and how just about every new faction of Sith would disavow the prior incarnations as limp-wristed poseurs while they were the REAL Sith and their leader was of course the Sith’ari. Many Sith claimed the title over the years, because they all have such egos they couldn’t even conceive of anybody coming after them that might be better, so surely they must be the pinnacle of Sith achievement themselves. lol

One huge fault in Darth Bane's philosophy of the Rule of Two is that it still doesn't fully prevent the lesser apprentice from murdering the greater master using external means such as poisoning, hiring contracted killers and private armies. Darth Sidious resorted to getting his master drunk and killing him in his sleep, for example. Blatantly ignoring an honorable challenge to fight to the death, where you'd fully test your powers against your opponent, may the strongest Sith survive and reign as Master. It's likely that Sidious trajectory of power is still lesser than that his master would've had, had he not been killed in his sleep. The rule of two also puts huge risks of extermination of the Sith order, as also shown when Sidious had not only murdered his master, but sent his apprentice off effectively to his death, leaving Sidious as the only Sith for a while. This same risk he took again later, when ordering the killing of Count Dooku. Had his plan failed at any time or had he accidentally died due to any unforeseen health complications or a stray assassination attempt, the Sith legacy would've stopped dead in its tracks, partly fault of Darth Bane.

Darth Bane and Darth Malgus aren't exactly the same guy.... also, Revan. I think Revan fit both the Jedi chosen one and Sith'ari at the same time. He brought balance to the force by starting and ending the Jedi civil war, and directly leading to Vitiate's destruction, destroyed the Sith under Malak, but it was his teaching that made Darth Bane make the rule of two

Hey, thanks Geetsly, I was just wondering if the Sith had a Chosen One Prophecy.

Even before the video started I declared Darth Bane as the only sithari. And to discover myself correct was amazing. Bane is the best candidate because he destroyed the old sith and created the new order that would finally succeed.

Agreed Palpatine also meets this, as he created a way of immortality with his power in a way he couldn't be stopped for both himself and an apprentice.

It’s funny How the Jedi created their own enemy the Sith. The Sith one day had a “chosen one” who Destroyed the Sith only leaving a few survivors. Only for the Sith to create THEIR own enemy By accidentally creating the Jedi’s “chosen one” who ended up Destroying the Jedi Order leaving only a few survivors. You touched on the prominence of "The Chosen One" trope in media but if you accept Sith'ari Bane as canon, it does open up a slightly more unique take on the old cliche. The Chosen One ALREADY happened, a derivation of the trope that we rarely see. And with that perspective, we can view the events that led up to Sith'ari Bane and the effects their power left on their universe.

I was under the impression that it was Darth Malgus. He was the embodiment of what the sith wanted in an individual. He was thought dead twice and kept returning. As well as he was not afraid to tell the dark council what he thought, and even made his own “true sith empire” when he thought the current one was to weak and political.

this taught me something of sith history that i didnt know. btw that wasnt bane you showed that was malgus. its easy to confuse the two. nonetheless awesome video. appreciate this sith Knowledge.

The sith seem way more complicated than the Jedi tbh I didn't even know they had a prophecy

My issue is that during the thousand years of the rule of two there must have been other dark side force welders to arise. My point is that in order to maintain the rule of two a Sith lord would have to fight both Jedi and those who have fallen into the dark side. Plus having to hunt down and assassinate other up and coming dark siders.

I always figured Anakin was chosen one for both sides. He brought balance to the force by getting rid of the jedi and ultimately emperor palpatine removing jedi and sith from being the deciding power in the galaxy (then episodes 7,8,9 came out)

I recently listed to the Bane audio novels and while you listed the candidates of Sith saviors. I though to myself, Bane is unequivocally the Sith chosen one. Bane in every aspect embodies the Sith traditions and culture. Proven by growth, ability to recognize the weakness and betrayal the dark brotherhood disgraced the Sith in and of itself. Alway down to his master making excuses for B.O.D corruption for the sake of peace and pin pointer at that moment his master was a fool and no longer a master. Bane is the Sith chosen one.

Neither were really correct. I'd like to know if the Grey Force wielders had their own version of the Chosen One. I feel as though it would be much more accurate, as they chose the Force to guide them, rather than using the Force for their own will. Also remember that, when under the ideals of a prophecy, you do what you think is right for the prophecy to come to fruition. This creates a self-fulfilling prophecy, rather than a true one. The Grey Force wielders wouldn't do what they thought would assist in the prophecy, they'd do what the Force requested of them at the time.

Death Bane is my favorite character in Star Wars. The bane trilogy is just 👌 I love the evil side of Star Wars

Immediately I thought bane. He literally trapped the entire brotherhood of darkness and part of the army of light into the thought bomb. The way its deacons in the book is very bone chillling. A fate worse than death.

There's so many characters that fit the description for the Sith'ari that it's unclear who it actually is just like the Chosen One prophecy was unclear until those events transpired. Unlike the Chosen One prophecy though, there's a lot of events that match to the Sith'ari prophecy that it could be either one of these candidates: Darth Revan, Darth Vader, Darth Bane, or Palpatine So it really is up for debate if the Sith'ari appears whenever there's an imbalance in the force or that it's only one being like the Chosen One prophecy? (I know I mentioned Darth Vader on my list, but for all we know the Sith'ari and the Chosen One could be the same person?)

We all know that the chosen one sith Lord is Jar Jar.
