Referees today have more tools to do their jobs correctly than ever before, but for some reason, they seem to be doing the exact opposite of that. Is the state of officiating really as bad as it appears to be, and if so, what can we do about it?

Sports fans will never be happy with officiating. If its human error, they want it eliminated. If its too slow checking, just have human errors. Repeat that endlessly.

Can’t believe this only has 800 views. Great video. Perhaps putting VAR in the title might boost exposure, since that’s the keyword searched for all this controversy!

I took Dr. Bordner's philosophy of sport class while I was a student at UA. Really amazing prof, super cool to see him here! Great video!

I'm a baseball fan, a sport where a lot of rules are vague and not written in stone. If we take the modern interpretation of the strikezone however there are ways to get it right 100% of the time via technology. But umpiring usually is a tradition that has existed almost as long as sports itself and I would argue that fans actually would not want perfect calls 100% of the time because arguing about borderline calls is a sport in itself. It's just that a few bad actors can ruin the work of the big mass if umps who do their job right most of the time. If you never know an umpire's name than he must be a great one! I think the biggest issue in baseball umping is that you cannot challenge umps on calls meaning a strike called half a foot off the plate will stand no matter what and arguing about it will only get you ejected. That's not right and gives really terrible umps iron-clad job security no matter how terrible they are ☠️

Id like to think that since referees hardly stick to their on field decision after a VAR check, the technology is being used as an option to devolve responsibility of the call.

14:32 I don't think English referees are the most qualified in the world - that's a little over the top ;)

I’d say with the quality of play in league 1, 2 and even the national league those refs who make it up the ladder to the premier league would be the most experienced with refereeing high quality professional matches
