As a Thai, I don’t think the word ‘Farang’ is used to look down foreigners at all. It’s just used to identify the race of caucasoid. That’s it. Besides, most people in countryside, they can’t understand English, so they often embarrassed giggle and laugh because they don’t understand your questions. You might wonder why they giggle and laugh. It’s because of Thai’s nature. People try to make the chilling atmosphere between others to avoid being awkward, so they usually laugh, giggle and smile. On the other hand, westerners who are not native English speakers they might not care about your feeling and walk away.😅 This is only my opinion.
There is no such race as caucasoid, unless you read unscientific papers from a century ago on phrenology. Westerners and caucasoids are not the same thing, because one exists and the other doesn't exist. There is no scientific data that shows there are human races. It doesn't mean foreigner at all like the narrator said, because Thais don't use the word to refer to Chinese foreigners, Filipino foreigners, African foreigners, Arab foreigners, foreigners from the different culture groups in Myanmar or India. They only use it to refer to whites.
Enjoying Nature frequently can: 1) improve your mood. reduce feelings of stress or anger. 2) help you take time out and feel more relaxed. improve your physical health. 2)improve your confidence and self-esteem. 3)help you be more active. 4) help you meet and get to know new people. connect you to your local community. We all need to recharge often…schedule it!
Beautiful life you have living in the village. My half Thai husband and me live in Bangkok with our two children. Sometimes we get so tired of city hustle. Just a week ago we escaped to Koh Samui and it feels so good. We also share our life here on RU-vid ❤
When I first came to the village it was funny. I'm the only farang around and when I took the kids to school the other kids would stare a lot. After being here 14yrs I am just normal to them. Last year I was having a beer at the local village shop where I sit sometimes a little girl approached me. She looked at my face and said 'mi contact mai?' She had never seen anyone with blue eyes. I laughed and replied 'farang mi ta si fah'. I don't mind being the only farang about. The local people have never caused me any grief and are always polite and friendly.
By far the most down to earth vlog about Thai life I think I have seen. My life in Thailand has only just started this year after yearly visits since 2016. Immersion is definitely the way and the rural style is so cool , just a fair old learning and adjusting process to work through over the coming months and years.
It's always a joy seeing your vlogs, I only recently discovered your channel, and I am going through the older vlogs but decided to watch this one, so I could leave a comment, my mother is from buriram and moved to Sweden a long time ago and married my father, so I grew up outside Thailand, however I did spend a couple of summers in buriram during my childhood and your vlogs bring back some very fond memories of said childhood.
Thanks for another wonderful vlog Damo and Ryan! I really enjoyed seeing a bit of the town/city; there's always more to places than you think! Those cafes looked quite nice! Great tips about learning the language, I'm doing a sort of immersion (as best I can in my small Canadian city), so far it seems to be going well. I always try to listen to any Thai in your videos, without looking at the subtitles, to see how much I can understand. Much love ❤

You always manage to produce fascinating vlogs Ryan. I love the fact that in a short vlog you manage to catch the true essence of rural life in the Buriram area of Thailand. I love the much slower pace, the cows trundling along the road, the wildlife, the plants and trees etc. Those turkeys are big boys now, isn't it amazing that you hatched them from eggs. I think Damo enjoyed being pampered at the salon. Otis's education is coming on a treat, as he loves to learn and have a little joke along the way. God bless all 4 of you 🙏😃❤️
Love seeing the local villages Otis is such a thoughtful boy thinking of his mum you are both raising your kids in a beautiful way thank you Ryan Demo and Otis
We like rural best. Having lived in Chiang Mai 6 years was nice but we like our country village life better ..As you said learn some Thai is key too. I found early on by going to Payap Uni & learning to read & write really helped because I can sound out words I see. Although I dont write often 😉 Also just try & speak is the best way to advance yes? You folks have a great son! So cute & smart👏 Thanks for the video
What a lovely video. The backdrop and life just exudes calmness and peace. Away from the stress and send strain of mainstream life. And yep Damo you have such a sexy voice… you are a great family…enjoy your peaceful life.
Hang out with cheerful/giggly/sunshiny folks….laughter is truly the best medicine. Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain. Activate and relieve your stress response.
The mulberries r yummy 🤤. The nestlings r cute . The villagers giggle when chance upon a farang simply bcos of language barrier. 😄Oh ya, beautiful turkey.👍
Well done Ryan, the video quality is top draw!. Your lovely little family do you proud. I really like the look of your minimalist lifestyle. We in the western world seem to have forgot what life is all about. Keep up the good work. Best regards Andy.
I used to like crabbing and fishing in the rice paddies and ponds....Tis might like it...beetle and Beta fish fights from our local finds...simple local entertainment.
Thought the word farrang came during the Vietnam war , obviously wrong, your place looks nice, both of you should be very proud of yourselves, song = The Sound Of Silence = Simon & Garfunkel.
❤️🙏🏻Ryan. Always find Thai people so kind! I call them the Sunshine people they spread positive energy whereever you go. Sounds perfect place to be. 💞💋💞💋💞💋💞💋
Ah! So wonderful, a great relationship of both husband and wife in equal terms must always precede before a real 'Date'. May both of you continue to aspire Thais with family to nurture togetherness relationships. Go on, Lead the way! Any future family counseling must involve your spouse presence.
The word "farang" is assumed to be derived from Arabs, Iranians, Persians who came to Ayutthaya in the past. To call the Europeans who came to live in Ayutthaya as Franky and have transmitted this language to the people of Siam. Which Siamese people would like to say short words for ease of communication Therefore, it has been called " Farang"since the past.
Another interesting video on rural life in Thailand - How do you like your Isuzu truck ? I will need a truck when I come over and the Toyotas seem very expensive. So i have to do a little research> Thanks
great to view your interactions between youself and the locals and how innocent their intentions are.... living in Mahasarakham has been an amazing experience.
Lovely ,i don't care iv'e be laughed at in Thailand (Been a few times over the years i'm sure of it with me trying to put two Thai words together 🤦♂)They are Lovely people ❤And watching your life says it all ❤
Asking Thai farmers/vendors about why/how they react to farangs was brilliant. Agree, immersion is the best way to learn a language. Those turkeys are majestic and colorful yet a bit scary looking for me. Lulu hangs out with all the animals
I always loved travelling around the villages on a motorbike and being asked to join families to eat.. It's the most amazing way to make friends/contacts and get to know each other ( a bottle of Lao Khao also helps), but like in every culture, be aware of crocodile smiles!
I live in a rural area, between two small villages, 45 km NE of Chiang Rai. Not many farangs but you can usually spot us at the local 7-11 buying necessities!
Your BEAUTIFUL Wife should go and get her Nails and toes done EVERY Month….She works so HARD and Deserves to get these things Done she is a Young Lady… Always watching from Virginia 🌹
Hi guys as we want to come to Thailand next year (2 senior people)what is the address of your area as we would like to come there.hopefully your neighbors accommodation will be ready as I'm always admiring the tranquility of the place.thank you
Never take oneself seriously. You are an assist to the your family and community! The last laugh is yours and it is the best! Enjoy the ride as the past is gone.
I've spent some time now in Thailand and my Thai wife is also the same. Thai people smile and laugh when they are nervous. They smile and laugh then they are embarrassed. They smile and laugh then they are humiliated. They smile and laugh when they're offended. All in all, they smile and laugh. And you have to look at the very very subtle differences as well as learn to read the situation. There's even that need to learn to read the nuance in the things they speak - Thai people are never, ever direct. They never say they don't like something or ever say no. So reading reluctance is a big skill we Westerners must learn, as we are so used to people speaking directly and plainly, and we are much less concerned with offending in favour of truth and clarity.
Thanks for addressing this issue, it was really starting to get me really pissed off when I'd hear Farang 10-15 times everytime I was out and about. I will be sure to remember what I learned from your video! Thanks dude!!
Why does it upset you when you're here, it means nothing to the locals when call us farang, they will call each other black or fat and not get offended just because they're put a bit of weight on or been in the sun, they just talk straight without offence, it's not like back in the west where it's offensive
Ryan , I was watching a blogger , been in Thailand 26 years , he said there are things about Thailand that will Piss you off , but you have to get past that , if not , it will not work for you , I understand what is his point , Peter Sukhothai
Damo, Ryan, and family, It was good to see you out getting a manicure and pedicure, Damo. You work very hard and you owe yourself a bit of time for things like this. 👍 Ken
Would you say that Thailand is pretty cheap cost of living wise? We've been researching on which part of Thailand is more affordable but there are so many mixed reviews.
I like this little Coffee shops, in all Thailand they have so many stuff, in Europe you can not effort even one employee. Everything is to expensive, even if you work alone as a owner is difficult to survive. It's a very sad story, but reality.
Dano’s new truck , nice ,let me let you in on something, the Persians were Aryan and that is the reason that you sometimes see a Buddha with Blue eyes, it was probably the Indo-Aryan tribes that built giant Temples like Ancor-Wat and others in Thailand and China, all over Asia and the world for that matter, including Egyptian Pyramids , Gives a different meaning to the word Farang
Top guy but I remember when he did a video with Jonny he said he speaks fluent Thai but when he’s talking with the street sellers that’s not fluent Thai all. Just some.
Good vlog Ryan, you are right the change of pace would probably shock some people even though they think they want it. Tis has a great personality, you have done well mate.
The word Farang came from the word FRANCE , means French person . Many Laotian and Thai have problem to pronounce the letter R and Z . Instead of saying FRANC for a French they pronounce Flanc not FARANG like yu said . Every White person is a Flanc , the word now means White Westerner .
