Obviously I know the time-vortex changes as technology and the show advances, but this is an in universe explanation/theory as to why! (I've made a video like this before, this is the modern version! :D )
it's actually because the time vortex is an ecosystem seperated entirely from space and time. many beings are shown to be capable of entering and exiting the votex at predetermined points (daleks, people with vortex manipulators, the forests of androzani minor, and most notably, timelords) but there are also various other creatures that live there like for example the time reapers shown in fathers day. we're simply just shown different areas the doctor travels through
There is an explanation from one novel The time Vortex is infinite, as it has no bottom, no up no down , and made of infinite levels that are stacked above each other The doctor is just traveling in different parts of the Vortex
You know. Have you ever noticed that the only time we see the time vortex in 12th doctors era (aside from the intro) was when he used an old TARDIS in Hell Bent? Or am i just dumb

I always thought that each vortex is each TARDIS ' way of interpreting it for the pilot. You cant view the time vortex directly, so a computer interprets it for 3d brains.
It's cool that the 14/15th doctors time vortex is similar to 11s, especially since the music is also similar too, so that kinda adds to the theory too!!
Hmm... The Doctor has many pair of eyes . 10 th said it best : I never seen the Universe with these pair of eyes , everything new ... Besides The Tardis is alive , and passing through The Doctor to wherever he wants or needs , it adapts to the Doctor s theme and mood of his personal journey.
2:46-3:01 That and the whole 'cracks in time' story ark probably didn't help. Also the 5th Doctors Time Vortex might not have been so calm since we know that the Flux damaged it and at the end of the 4rth Doctors era a similarly destructive event occurred in the form of an entropy wave that destroyed Logopolis, Traken and a very large chunk of the rest of the Universe and this likely wasn't an already established event as it was the direct result of the Masters meddling.
Nice theory. My head cannon is the appearance of the time vortex reflects the Doctor/Tarids that's travelling through it. That there is some sort of subjective two way relationship. We have seen in the 50th that different TARDIS's/Doctors have different vortexes at the same time.
@@forcedalek 9/10 is up there, also 13 but we don't get to see that much of it. The War Doctor as well. It's all just head cannon at the end of the day.
Oooooo i really like this theory! You keep coming up with some super cool stuff, i see this also linking in with two other theories iv seen online tho they are more based on the theme tune of the show being the actual sound of the vortex itself but here they are if your interested 1 - the theme of the show / sound of the time vortex is the actual name of the Doctor, given how the look and nature of the vortex changes with him so does the name for exaple at the start it is calm simply the good old early doctor going off too explore the universe nothing too impactful yet but after the time war the doctor is traumatised and angry and thats why the drums of 9 & 10s themes are so loud chaotic, 11s is calmer because he's moved on more and 12s is back to being almost athereal because he knows he's saved gallifrey now, but then the flux happens and damages the doctor once again causing 13s theme to be loud chaotic drums aswell tho not as bad as 9 / 10s. 14 / 15s seem to be a mix of calm and chaotic representing 14 still having lot's of trauma but slowly moving on, if this is actually on purpose by the showrunners and Ncuti gets a new theme i expect it too be the calmest one yet but it will never be like the original, the older the doctor gets the more complex the theme and vortex becomes tho changes dependent on how he feels, mybe you could even go as far as too say the Doctor created the time vortex to begin with or with his constant medling became the string that attaches the universe toghether that being the string of time / time vortex itself which he sorta weaves through the universe. 2 - The "sound" of the vortex is a result of the time lords sending the Masters drumbeat back throught it, it slowly getting louder and more chaotic leading up the end of time where it becomes where we can hear it the clearest, then slowly clearing and healing as we get into the post 10 incarnations, no explanation for the drumming in 13s theme tho Sorry i know that was super long but hope it was interesting, can't wait for future vids!
To me, the time vortex acts the same as those A.I "lobotomy core" videos where nothing makes sense. It evolves, it has no shape, picture or colour. It's beyond universal understanding. Any time we see something relatable to earthly occurrences like thunder clouds and lightning (11th Doctor Series 5/6) it's what our minds would view as something we're familiar with seeing, when in reality it's a cluster of time and space. Same goes for the 12th Doctor's clockwork vortex. The only thing that can be perceived by the human mind for what it is on the outside is The TARDIS, due to the fact it is an earthly object as police boxes were around in the 60s. Yes there's space that can be seen in intros but that's because space is within the universe. It exists. Where as the vortex is basically the fibers that make up time and space and all of the above. The only true to form title sequences that show the accuracy of the Whoniverse Time Vortex would be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 8th, 9th/10th and 13th as they have a consistent aesthetic of wormholes, time tunnels, folding space and odd patterns scattering around, dancing and unraveling.
this actually is pretty interesting in theory, I have a bit of an idea for you, why does the tardis change interior and exterior? Like IK probably because of the chameleon circuit and all but why does the overall police box design change into something different, and how does it know what type of interior to change in to based of the doctors personality? Like for example when 11th first came the tardis made a new interior based on the doctors personality, then the same for thirteenth then fourteenth
I'm fairly certain that the first three howlaround intros are not supposed to be vortexes. I believe they were intended to just be graphics to match the psychedelic vibe of the show. We also see in episodes like The Chase, The Web of Fear, Claws of Axos and The Time Monster that the Tardis mostly travels in either space or a Vortex that looks entirely different from the howlaround intro
I always just thought the Time Vortex is inperceivable to our primitive human minds, so it changes over time. This has a slight meta element as the way it is picked up by the film and vfx crew's equipment changes each time they replace and improve it
My interpretation is that the vortex doesn't have any real appearance. The background radiation forming the tunnel is just represented by the TARDIS' translation circuit and turned into a visible reality both on the TARDIS screen and in the eyes of those who travel with it. When the TARDIS changes its appearance, the vortex does the same.
this is such a cool theory! I've got an idea if you don't mind adding to your list: why do similar faces occur so often aka reused actors, that weren't already explained like 12th doctor or Gwen Cooper
Tennant returning can be explained by the Curator in the Day of the Doctor saying something along the lines of "you'll revist some old faces, mainly the favourites"
great theory that makes a lot of sense and we know the vortex is the doctor's face from late 4th doctor to 6th why else would space extend the face towards us? (sorry too good of a joke to resist.)
@@forcedalek well, it starts with my TARDIS in a Greenisch Vortex and then something Dark/Black shoots the TARDIS out of the Vortex and The TARDIS "crashes" in another Vortex, where it changes its Exterrior to the TARDIM from TARDIM (might change some things in the finished result)

Time had been frozen thanks to the monsters of that story, meaning the vortex temporarily altered to compensate two Tardis from different time streams, making it a time tunnel shape with a slight storm but lacked colour
Time is a little more than one thing it's many things constantly changing every moment a thousand clocks tick at a minute past an hour a time changes a vortex is just one it's millions of viewpoints on different aspects in time and space a living area of time in a bizarre way a Tardis can use any vortex to journey back and forth in any direction in a plink of a eye so to speak. Vortex has developed through eons of realities then came Omega he taped the dark matter of a black hole to channel a brech through it and in turn found the vortex as he did so he discovered this vortex had strange abilities he had found an tunnel through which to journey the corridors of time and space, but the vortex was hard to control it seems to have a intelligence system something that has been around for many years so Omega released this could help in building a artificial time machine. You see the vortex and Tardis are connected the head is the Tardis and her mind is part of the vortex every Tardis is part of the vortex a life born of time lords technology and time knowledge but their ability comes from something a lot older than the universe a vortex and a black hole and a living Tardis connections with every vortex or the same one?
This is absolutely ridiculous, the first 7 doctors ‘vortex’ was just a title sequence. The 8th doctor had the first proper vortex, that is when we saw the tardis travelling in the vortex outside of a title sequence. Even then we saw the first doctor’s tardis in the series 7 vortex and the series 10 vortex, so the intention is that the vortex has always looked the same, just we see it through a different fx lens each time. It’s like trying to explain why the doctor who universe gained colour in the 70s, nothing changed in universe, it’s just our perspective changed.
@@gerrardjones28 I am sorry you feel that way, I just feel that the creators don't have any intentions on the changing vortex effects as being a canonical evolution, if they did then the first doctor's tardis in the name of the doctor and twice upon a time would be flying through the black and white steam vortex. Perhaps the vortex depends on the tardis settings, but it is a grey area when it comes to canon. It would have easier if they kept the RTD vortex to add consistency like they did with the regenerations.
