I think with 3-4's regeneration, he needed a face to make Sarah Jane happy, as the last thing 3 saw was her crying and his last words were trying to cheer her up.

Hmm. Another thing to remember is that in going from 12 to 13, the Doctor started to regain that youthful energy again. And 13 to 14 could be a nod to when 4/The Caretaker told 11 that he'd "revisit some old favorites", likely pertaining to regenerations.

I like to think the reason the doctor for most of his regenerations haven't been a burst of golden light (1-2 retroactivally fits very well with modern regeneration since its a burst of light) is that from 2-8 his regeneration was slightly bungled from the forced regeneration from the timelords. which is why 8's regeneration made the doctor actually scream in pain since the sisterhood of karn (or however you spell it) kickstarted his body's proper regeneration.

i think part of 12's regeneration into 13 was influenced by bill, since theres that line right before he regenerates where she says "you know how i like girls around my age right? glad you knew that", i interpreted that as a request/suggestion for his next face

Welp, it's pretty much canon that the personality of every doctor isn't random, but it's based on the choice of the previous incarnation, either subconsciously or consciously

As a result of the forced regeneration, I always felt that Troughton’s Doctor influenced the change into Pertwee as a subconscious desire to be more authoritative. It’s similar to what happened with the regeneration from Davison to Baker. This is why both Pertwee and Baker’s incarnations were often depicted as being dismissive of Troughton and Davison’s incarnations, considering them to be more fallible. As for Baker to McCoy, I’ve always related ‘Time’s Champion with unfinished business to take care of' to mid-lives crisis and a response to the instability he had experienced in the earlier part of his sixth incarnation, as well as his ToTL epiphany that he had misunderstood the potential dark side Time Lords and the Universe as a whole. With McCoy to McGann, the decision to become ‘Life’s Champion’ was in direct response to his predecessor’s machiavellian ways. The pendulum has swung too far, and he wanted to go back to enjoying the universe - not controlling it. This also involved becoming a more romantic presence, ushering in some of the changes seen in the revival series.

about the third doctor, it is worth mentioning that the time lords wanted to make a body for action since this would be a doctor to fight against evil in exile

Great video! Trickier to do for the Master because a lot of his incarnations aren’t actual regenerations but body swaps/thefts - and even when the master does regenerate, most of the time I imagine it’s based upon the doctor’s current appearance.

I always wanted someone to cover a video on this topic. A similar topic I would like to see covered in the future is why the Doctor chose their specific costumes in-universe. For example: the Ninth Doctor suffered trauma from the time war so he stuck with a leather jacket just as the War Doctor wore a leather coat, or Rose wore white trainers when she first met the Ninth Doctor, which may have unfluenced the Tenth Doctor to chose converse trainers/sandshoes when picking his pinstripe suit. The Tenth Doctor wore a tweed jacket and bow tie as John Smith in Human Nature/The Family of Blood, which may have influenced the Eleventh Doctor when picking his first outfit as he was living the life the Tenth Doctor couldn't have either as John Smith or the next incarnation. Another two examples: the Eleventh Doctor turned down the tweed jacket for the purple frock coat in The Bells of Saint John as he wore it closely in his time with Amy and Rory so he needed a new look as the loss of the Ponds was still recent for him. Or look at how similar Clara's costume from when she saw the Eleventh Doctor regenerate in the Time of the Doctor, which might have influenced the Twelfth Doctor's first costume. Obviously there could be a simple explanation of the Doctor just finding the right clothes and they just go with the flow but it is a topic worth exploring, and these are just my logical explanations which I'm happy to contribute should you decide to make the video yourself.

I have a theory on the 14th doctor's regeneration: he was the doctor who didn't want to move on so he waited and hid at the edge of existence and went with 13 when she regenerated backward so that's why he aged and then when she regenerated it was into him, and you can't remember your time on the edge if you leave so that explains that

If you're wanting a Master Timeline I can give you it from the 12th (Delgado) Master onwards. Unfortunately the majority of pre-Delgado incarnations haven't been explored in any media, so no-one will be able to help there. Also, the circumstances leading to most of their regenerations are still a mystery, so this will mainly be a chronological list of incarnations instead of a timeline. Anyway: The 12th Master (Delgado) is followed by the "Crispy" Master (I forget the original deadly assassin actor, he's played by Geoffrey Beavers in all other encounters). It must be noted, this incarnation is the final in the Master's original regeneration cycle, and the decayed look isn't because he's artificially elongated this lifespan, it's a direct consequence of some sort of mysterious off-screen accident that he blames the Dr for. Here's where the Numbering can get complicated, as technically every Master prior to the Alex Macqueen version still counts as the 13th, but to keep things simple I'm going to number them per actor as they all pretty much have different personalities and are known to appear alongside each other in Multi-Master stories as different entities. After Beavers' 13, is Ainley's 14th. This change is seen at the end of "The Keeper of Traken". Now, the 15th is only ever seen in the intro to the TV Movie being put on trial by the Daleks (notably overseen by none other than the Dalek Time Controller, at that point going by the title of the Dalek Litigator) as part of a very fragile truce between the Timelords and the Daleks, leading up to the timewar. Forgive me when I forget the Actor 😅. Then the 16th incarnation is introduced in the same movie, played by Eric Roberts. This incarnation actually properly dies in this outing, but is brought back from the vortex due to shenanigans in the first "Master!" Boxset. Note: this isn't his resurrection by the timelords as most ppl who don't listen to BF assume. That comes later. The 16th master keeps being banished to and then brought back from the vortex. It's assumed that one such banishment will eventually be permanent, leading to the resurrection of the Master by the CIA as "peacetime" tensions start to get... interesting. NEW REGENERATION CYCLE! The 17th incarnation played by Alex Macqueen is recruited by Narvin to investigate and try and control the Eminence, who's existence replaced the daleks within the prophecy referenced in "Genesis of the Daleks". Side note: "Dark Eyes" is great. Also, this incarnation is known to randomly turn up and have encounters with Dr's prior to the 8th. He then regenerates via unknown circumstance, into Sir Derek Jacobi's 18th Master; The War Master. This, along with Missy, is probably the most documented Master. The lead up and circumstance of his eventual regeneration are both fully explored. I want to mention 2 additional oddities that occur during his tenure. The first is the introduction of the alternate "Unbound Master" who is rescued from his own universe by the Dalek Time Strategist to save the primary universe's timelines from destruction by the hands of the 18th Master (see "Anti-Genesis"). This means there are literally 2 separate Masters running around the main universe, this includes during all the events of Nu-Who. I'll let that information sink in for a bit, and then never mention it again 🙃 The second anachronism occurs during the events of "Masterful". That anachronism being the events of "Masterful". SPOILERS: due to the 19th Master killing the 13th Dr and creating a flux level entity that they then loose control of, in the end it's the war master who kills himself, his previous and future incarnations to reset the timeline (in other words; alternate/permanent deaths for most of the Masters involved; 1, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 (missy) and 20.5 (The Luminat) as well as complete erasure of all other incarnations with the exception of the "Unbound" Master who dips to another universe after having a chat with Missy and stealing Kamelion.) Back to the primary tineline; The Saxon Master (19) regenerates into Missy (20) after being stabbed by an older version of Missy during "The Doctor Falls" Here's where the Luminat (20.5) comes in. This incarnation would of originally been the 21st Master after Missy's redemption, however the fatal encounter with the 19th Master cut the redemption short, erasing the Luminat from existence. That's right, in an alternate timeline (the OG timeline) the 21st Master continued Missy's redemption and became a Dr-like figure for good, but all that was lost when 19 preemptively killed Missy. Due to this 21 then became the Dwann Master. It's probable that they didn't start off as we see them in the show, instead slowly decending back into maddness believing the Dr abandoned them after being killed by themselves, then finding out about Division and the timeless child etc (I'm sure this will all be revealed in BF's upcoming 21st Master series) Then we have the tooth.

1-2=As you said surrounded by young people he went from mid 50's to physically late 30's-mid 40's and his personality went from old grandpa to the energy of a young early 20's rich party kid, wisdom of a 70 year old+ and attitude of a late 30's early 40's man 2-3 The Timelord's made him very physically able but also physically mid 40's to early 50's and his Personality a fancy, classy, clever responsible quick witted wise man surely meant to have the mental age of an old man but due to the Doctor being rebellious his mental age was more mid to late 30's with the wisdom of someone in their 70's+ and sass of 60's+ 3-4 He went physically to mid 30's-early 40's, intentionally instead of just trying to change look like a funny good time dude, and had his mental age be the attitude of a mid 30's to early 40's fun dad and energy/sass of a teenager who thinks there all big and wants to go mess around 4-5 Surrounded by so many people he tried to make this face as kind as possibly and human as possibly while still having his alien features, in the same way he's physically mid to late 20's, mindset of a kind hearted simple early 20's sweet heart but still that old man logic which can bring out his anger 5-6 seeing as 5 was not really a man of action he took inspiration from General Maxill a soldier which gave him full on action packed rage filled man but with Doctor aspects so the anger and charge of a soldier+the charm and humor of a funny teacher/dad leading him to have the physical age of mid 30's-early 40's, mental age of mid 30's-early 40's, the wisdom of a 50's veteran and a tad of teenage sass mixed with like I said dad humor, oh and loads of confidence/ego 6-7 He went a double sided coin, on the one hand he seemed like a mid 40's seen it all funny teacher/clown who could cheer you up and on the other he was a couple centuries old being that could manipulate anything into his favor, awhile physically being active but not looking it and going for that early to mid 40's trusting teacher look who's clearly retired but seen a lot 7-8 He went for a early to late 30's Charming handsome ready to adventure romantic lad who you could have a chat with a the pub for hours, sprinkle in some alien-ness, centuries of knowledge and some bluntness and there you go 8-Warrior The Perfect Mid 30's Soldier with Doctor like features Warrior-9 He went for a late 30's early 40's Sassy War Veteran Dad who loves a laugh and after what he's seen just wants the fun in life but when he's pissed you know he's pissed 9-10 He went for while looking early to mid 20's actually mid 20's-mid 30's early 20's college mindset Romantic Fairy Tale Hero right out of a book mixed in with what he thought would he Rose's dream man all into one with some Autism, Alien-ness and Centuries of knowledge sprinkled on makes the base of 10 however when he has no one to be the dashing hero to he loses the facade and becomes an angry, bitter, trauma filled, no nonsense destroyer of worlds ready to conquer the universe if pushed 10-10 The same but I feel like due to still be Regenerated slightly and losing Rose the facade slowly died and his under side became more predominate 10-11 He became an early to mid 20's Man with the Personality of nothing matters anymore only got a couple months (actually hundreds of years but you know) to live and's gonna make the most of it no matter what of course this doesn't always work as when he did get attached he went into retirement post leaving but due to his own mind he couldn't help himself get out of it 11-12 He became a mid 50's blunt, no social ques special needs alien filled but with centuries of knowledge old man who still tries staying hip with the youngsters and tries sparking up life every now and then with a spark of late 30's early 40's mid life crisis lets get this party started attitude and a teenage sass swagger to him 12-13 A younger early to mid 30's mix of Missy and her other selves predominantly 10, 11 and 12 which until Big Finish or Russel prove other wise made her not the best Doctor 13-14 was when the Doctor just needed a break so by taking the face that has the most unresolved trauma now physically aged up to early 50's looking worn/matured, with the mental age of a early 50's person instead of a early 20's college kid, and with all the vanity, issues, darkness replaced with being emotionally open, more relaxed humble man he also is just made to be a therapy face you can tell, also by how much he loves everyone 14-14/15 15's brought from the future to split off 14 14-15 He went for a with no trauma, no problems, happy go lucky ready to explore the world super energetic young chap also someone you could spend hours flirting with or talking to at a club or bar/pub

I disagree with one of those. The “older” Doctor, Peter C, the episode right before that was with Bill sort of coming back and our very first Doctor. In that, there were many, what we consider now to be sexist, comments he made towards Bill, which PC heard and commented on. I always thought that his regeneration into our first female Doctor was because of that. Because he realized what he had been, what he had thought, what he had said, etc.

nice , now wat about the personalitiy of each face he gets, for example 5 was very kind and 6 was very rude, 11 was kind and thoughtful of others yet 12 was drawn back and a lil rude but changed to be more open later. is it just regeneration that makes the personality that way and he has to relearn to become more then the preset of the regeneration he gets or could there be some sub thoughts on how he should behave once he changes, perhaps he was tired of being nice and wanted to try being rude subconsciously therefore thats wat he became? let me know what u think in terms of this.
