Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell The only key to a peaceful world is love. It is realizing we are all human and accepting each other for who we are. Everything in this world is connected. For example the high unemployment rate directly connects to the suicide rate. Untreated mental, psychological, or social emotional issues connects to the gun violence and homicide rate. You think about gangs and gang violence and there all in the poorest most forgotten communites in the country. When you say something mean to someone they take that bitterness with them and spill it on to others. Most of society today are confused on how to approach this thing called life. Some people believe in diffrent gods others believe in science and some people believe in nothing and this is place where we all are divided and begin to clash but the truth is right in front of us we are letting our beliefs and opinions that weve learned tear us all apart coupled with things like race, politics , age , financial status, and region of the country we are constantly being divided. Which is making a stable society further from our grasp. It is amazing to me how we are in the age of the internet, and space stations but we still havent figured out a peaceful way to live amongst ourselfs. You see in a perfect world people are supported, loved , and given a sense of belonging. But it cant just be the lucky few it has to be worldwide. If we can somehow across continent to continent realize we are all the same and treating eachother as brother and sister instead of a bunch strangers then we would be on the correct path. Also financial stability can you imagine where the human race would be if it wasnt just a few major countries with space flight capabilties but the entire continent of africa and south america had the same advancement in technology as the usa did today? People who normally would have been refugees, victims of poverty , people who would have been busy searching for a clean water source would know be invested in something to help change the world and bringing in new ideas and concepts to the world. It really isnt radical to believe its possible if we could all just love and help one another and combine all of our might this world would be immaculate.

So basically, this entire thing is like that one headline: *"Man tries to commit suicide, fails and gets a death punishment"*
@wowverynice6732
@wowverynice6732 3 года назад
@Drukstylz Not quite. That man should be helped out of suicide instead of being locked up. Also, we see in this opioid crisis these people were simply trying to get medicine to reduce their pain and because of big pharma's lack of foresight or simple greediness led to many getting addicted. They weren't trying to join any suicide cult-like, and like many who use drugs, they were instead to distract from the pain.

I think we should make a law that says possession of certain drugs is still illegal but: 1) If you complete treatment before you are arrested on a possession charge, then you can't be charged for possession. 2) If you are charged and convicted of possession, then your punishment is confinement to a treatment center until a psychiatrist determines that you are low risk of getting back into your vice.

President Nixon responded in part to this highly publicized death: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diane_Linkletter Which was probably not due to LSD, but rather mental illness. However her father campaigned against street drugs, failing to consider that his daughter would have likely become ill regardless. Yes, bad LSD has caused mental illness, but that is not likely. Want to know what is fucked? A guy goes to work, makes good money, pays 20-30K in taxes per year, works hard, has a social life, friends, a girlfriend at home.. Then, once in a while this guy decides to roll a dube and smoke one to relax on his porch in the middle of no where. He is caught, he gets a big ass fine, he loses his job, he is labeled as a criminal, he can't get a new job, he jumps on welfare and ends up working at a small low paying company because the big ones won't take him in anymore, he loses his house, then the stress and depression makes him lose his girlfriend, his life is destroyed. Now, some would say "Weed is illegal, he shouldn't have smoked it" whereas others would say "Smoking that plant, on his own time, at home, on his property, with no one around but himself.. who in the fuck is he harming? Who is he hurting? Who is he affecting? No one. Not a single soul, he is just relaxing. He isn't even harming himself, its a joint. Now the 20-30K in taxes have all but disappeared because of that 1 joint. So now this "war on drugs" is costing YOU money. Ridiculous.

@RoflZack

I mean... he is harming himself a little. It's misleading to say he isn't harming himself at all. But alcohol is worse. Smoking is worse if you use a bong/vape instead of a joint. Those are both legal. And McDonald's is bad for you (depending on what you get there and what you mean by "bad for you") that's legal.
@harrypalmer2174
@harrypalmer2174 8 лет назад
I disagree. The individual made the decision to use a banned substance, and must have understood the consequences of his actions. He made his own evaluation of the situation and the government, who is responsible for all peoples within a country and arguably has better access to data than the individual, came to their own - more accurate - conclusion. By disregarding this the individual is directly contradicting the government and must face the consequences.
@sacr3
@sacr3 8 лет назад
Harry Palmer But you see, that is the issue - why is it illegal when in this context? Why throw a man in jail for smoking a joint in his own time? What benefits does this have for society or our government? All it does is take a tax payer off the streets because he chose to smoke weed on his own time A drug that isn't lethal, a drug that has less effects on the body then alcohol, a drug that gives no hangover, a drug that isn't addictive, etc, etc. Do you not see the joke here? But, with that said the choice to use something illegal is definitely something you have to accept the consequences for. But, we all do illegal things here and here, driving/texting, pirating games, music, etc. We claim they're "harmless" crimes just as this man smoking a joint assumes. But all are just as illegal as the next. So aren't we all hypocrites when we say "ITS ILLEGAL! HE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!" ?

Honestly I think putting non-violent drug users in jail is bullshit. If they haven't harmed anyone, why do they need to be locked up? That's pretty much like putting anyone who has a gun in jail for fear that they might shoot someone. Honestly it seems like a lot of countries have forgotten what the purpose of the justice system is. The justice system is about protection, not punishment. The point isn't to punish the criminals, it's to prevent them from committing more crimes. If there's someone who's taking drugs but hasn't committed any crimes under the influence, then why should they be locked up? Send them to rehab, don't ruin their lives and waste taxpayer's money on keeping someone who isn't dangerous in prison.

Politicians are just gangbangers in suits, if you think any of this is an accident you are flat out wrong. It's not that countries "forgot" what the justice system is, it's that the people in political power across the world realise they can abuse the system to get almost whatever they want as long as they can convince the people it is for their own good. The crazy part is that it takes people so long to realise that the wool is pulled over their eyes. I work in the service industry - culinary to be exact - so I know a lot of Filipinos, and over the weekend I got their opinions on the new President - whom is basically slaughtering anyone who is accused of involvement in drugs. Literally 5/5 were in support of the new president and were all elated at the lengths he was going to to extend this war on drugs. Granted, they're all quite ignorant to the political world, but that is the issue. It's an easy sell when you're pitching a perfect society with no drugs, it just takes a little logic to think it through, and honestly a bit of compassion for the people suffering because of all this turmoil. Unfortunately they all grew up in the Philippines, and if you know anything about the Philippines you know their drug problem is massively out of control. But the idea that this is the solution is so lazy it makes my brain hurt just thinking about how so many people accept it as their reality. /rant

@lotus1528

@Samuel Bilskie The money is paid by the government to said prison system which holds an ass load of private prisons which are paid based on how many people they have in them. Not by how well they are treated or how low a chance they have of going back after release. Prisons are paid more by keeping an inflow of people which gives them no incentive to help people sent there from coming back, and they make as much profit as they can by cutting things from their budget which would help them stay out of said prison. So yes, we are wasting government funds on this but only because we elected corporate shills into office in the first place.

We now know the CIA was involved with the drug flow into the US. It was all about money. The US saw this enormous amount of cash that the cartels were making and wanted in on it. Do you just think the Billions Pablo and El Chapo made disappeared? Look at the most recent news on El Chapo. The federal government is asking him to fork over like 12 billion dollars. It's all about money nothing more. Nixon and Reagon werent claiming a war on drugs to help citizens. No, It was all about the money. The idea was to control the amount coming in and how to introduce these drugs to certain communities who would become dependent and lead to incarceration which would benefit private prisons at the expense of the "lesser class".

Fascism and authoritarianism is fast on the rise in America and threatening an all out takeover, and without naming names there are certain people who should not hold any kind of political office. Because otherwise fascism and authoritarianism will become omnipotent in America and this will bring immense suffering for generations to come.

How about we start helping people instead putting them down like you tend to do. You know methamphetamine wouldn't exist if opioids were legal in the first place. How about this if cannabis were always legal we would be more advanced because hemp can be used as fuel or housing and a billion other uses besides just smoking bud. Not only that I live in Washington and do ya know what cannabis has been doing for our economy? That's right those tax dollars go straight to education! It's fools like you who just wanna feel better about themselves because they don't sympathize with the disease of addiction or understand the mass economical benefits that legalizing drugs and ending the War on Drugs would do.

@Akshay 786 The US isn't economically stronger just because it has the highest numbers of millionaires and billionaires. The US currency, although not the strongest, weighs like no other currency when it comes to exchanges, and even is the world's primary reserve currency. To continue, the US productivity workforce is stronger (per capita or in absolute number) than that of Switzerland which is a very small country in comparison.
@BroJo676
@BroJo676 3 года назад
@Akshay 786 Also, if what I know, Swiss unemployment is higher than its US counterpart. And you should question as to why there are more billionaires and millionaires in the US. Maybe because the country's better at providing with opportunities flourishing and unestablished businesses, as well as an important population where the products can be consumed and purchased (the US is the largest consumer market in the world by the way). The US has more diverse trading infrastructures than Switzerland, being the seventh-highest total-estimated value of natural resources and therefore is free to export goods that Switzerland barely can. Moreover, Americans have the average household and employee income of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Switzerland is a member by the way. The US is also home to the two largest stock exchanges by far, Wall Street and Nasdaq.

I don't know much about statistics but if I can see these results with a pop up safe injection site that only shows up every so often I think we should go bigger

We should decriminalize all drugs. But not the crimes committed. If you can afford to buy your drugs and sit around your house enjoying your drugs it should not be a crime. If you drive while you're on drugs that is a crime. If you rob someone to get your drugs that is a crime. The crimes one committed with drugs are the same as the crimes committed without drugs. But the Possession and sale and use of drugs should not be a crime.

I feel like the US is so entrenched in its current ways that even if everyone recognizes and desires changes made, like in Switzerland, we won’t ever see anything like that integrated here because A) Politicians don’t want to admit another country not only got something right, but also B) Developed a system that directly contradicts many agendas and underhanded practices they (politicians and the corporations that benefit with them) are so very fond of. It’s grim.

I think you’re also forgetting about the mindset of generations. Most of the people that hold political power are from a generation that has the idea that drugs are the center of all evil. It’s nearly impossible to change the mindset of an entire generation. Unfortunately, we either have to get lucky with a politician that’s in line with a more modern way of thinking to get into power, or we have to wait till the next generation of politicians are in place. But not only that, but we have to recognize that politicians are heavily influenced by big corporations. Policy follows the money most of the time. TLDR: We gotta wait for the next generation of politicians and big corporations heavily influence policy.

It's not just Switzerland that's made these changes and seen these enormous improvements. Portugal did the same thing and had the same results, along with several other European nations. The UK is partially implementing some of these changes, but not-to my knowledge- on a large enough scale to be effective. While it's massively improved the lives of those who have benefitted from the "Diacetyl-Morphine" program, there simply aren't enough people who are able to become part of said program.

I’m a very big believer in legalising drugs while teaching people the dangers as well. If you sell drugs through reputable retailers you are not only insuring people aren’t putting who knows what in their bodies, but the money being made from the sale of them actually goes back to the governments of their own countries rather than lining the pockets of criminals, which then means that money will also help fund the facilities to treat those people who over do it, you will also have tighter controls on how much is supplied. There was a massive issue a few years ago in the uk where a new pill containing a cocktail of drugs turned out to be poisonous and a lot of people got very sick and some even died, but that money to treat them came out of the tax payers pockets and was in no part paid for by the money spent on the drugs themselves. And it is still the same today. So much money is spent on treating people not only for rehabilitation but also for conditions caused by drug abuse!
