Here's the long awaited follow up review for the Xreal / Nreal Air AR Glasses. It's been over a half a year since owning them now so what gives? Do I still hard recommend them like I did before? You'll have to watch the video to find out -- but -- I'll tell you this, they work great with a Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Onexplayer 2, Ayaneo 2, or whatever other Windows handheld you might have !

The problem with nebula is that it is on android. You need very very low latency kernel support for last minute projection of the frame. It's why gear vr is specific for the samsung, and allowing any 3rd party apps is a potential security hole because they need elevated privileges. So the beam is just an android device where the main applications probably have full privileges to update the frame buffer in time.

Hey man, the 120w charger I bought charges the beam in about 40 mins from flat, as well as simultaneously charging the RoG ally. But man the beam really should be included in the package. It's ends up quite expensive. And without it your missing features. Pinning the image is a must for me.

Thanks so much for your support, I'm glad it was helpful! Sadly from what I've found out so far, the Air 2 and Air 2 Pros are "slight" upgrades? There's some mixed information going around, but for the most part it seems like only a little has changed in terms of screen brightness, FOV/display area, and weight.

Thanks so much for this for this review! Im primarily looking at these as a mobile display for my Windows laptop. I'm so frustrated and disappointed that they are literally selling you a hardware solution that they promised would be built into the glasses. Great advice ant the end but Ive been waiting since they've come out since for this functionality and they best they could do is this janky hack of a device that can't even cast DRM content. So irritating and typical of early tech startups. If you can't do it or don't have a feature don't fucking advertise it!!

Thank you for your kind words of support! @@SkateEverythingProject I completely understand what you're saying... we're basically all beta testers... it's also a reason why I strive to do thorough but "reasonable" testing in the sense that I don't feel the average consumer should have to jump through hoops just to get what's advertised working.

Thank you so much for making this video. I knew I won't need the Beam!! But what I really appreciate in this video is that you addressed the real size that the user will actually see once worn! Because the marketing materials are just too good to be true and the numbers, when the actual glass where the micro OLED projects at is not that big at all. I mean 330" at 6 meters. If you really think about it and visualize it in real life, it's actually pretty small. I'm guessing maxing out the size of a screen when worn without the Beam is just like having a 24" monitor 1-foot away from your face. Maybe even less than 24"? Anyway! Great video, sir! 👏

Thanks so much for your kind words of support! Indeed the marketing have done some real... let's call it "spinning". The only way AFAIK right now to get a "REAL" image that would look like a 330" display is to have a significantly larger FOV (maybe like 100" ) on something like a VR headset. Would you be able to see the whole image at one time in both eyes? Maybe, maybe not, but how it looks to you will be different without question, because it's not a box or keyhole you're looking through. So in terms of maxing out the screen, it's almost entirely dependent in my experience on what is "around you". As in, what is in your peripheral vision. If you put on those lens covers and then cover the sides of your face, it probably will look something like a 24" monitor. But if you stare at wall across the room, yeah maybe then it WILL look like 330"... definitely some kind of brain sorcery. Thanks again for your kind words!

Sorry for the late response. And thank you for your kind words of support! Technically yes as far as I know. But it'll be dependent on how far from a wall you're sitting. Meaning if you're just an arm's length away from the wall, it'll look small. Also, as far as I understand, Beam will be casting say Chiaki or PS remote play (both of which aren't natively supported currently if I'm not mistaken) so your mileage may vary in terms of latency.

Hi thanks for the comment. Imagine a big rectangle in front of you, that's basically what it looks like. You can get a "better" idea of the view in the other videos I've published already including the Viture XR glasses review (they all use the same type of technology). Please do ask again if that was poorly explained.

You are right the technology was halfway in the glasses for the display modes.. to my understanding only select (flagship) Samsung phones have the display functionality working directly.

You can sideload some apps currently, and there are guides out there on the subrreddit as far as I know. BUT, it might just get overwritten or break when new updates come out. So it's better IMO to just connect to something like DeX if you have a samsung phone or to some other device, even if it's kind of annoying adding in another device.

I love the glasses they are just top notch and worth every penny. Unfortunately, as far as the Xbeam there is NO support for DRM which does not allow you to stream pretty much anything. This thing is pretty useless. I strongly believe that they rushed the product out without strong software support. Just my opinion.

I think the glasses are also not that nice to wear, but not because of the quality, but just because it’s not as unobtrusive as I thought it was going to be. It’s very hard to see with this with the double rims in your vision and darkness. It needs to be dark for the screens to be useful. Also I think it’s hard on your eyes and brain to have a view impairment.

As far as I know yes, it should work with any iOS or Android device. Do also note that a recent update turned this into a sort-of Android TV, in that there are some apps now supported.

Hi there, thanks for your comment. If you mean the "side view" type mode, no. You can only do that with Beam. Technically you can create little windows/screens in the Nebula app but that's only in AR space mode. You may also be able to do this while connected to a MacBook but I haven't tested this recently.

Thanks for your question! There was an update about two months ago that added in some android app capabilities, though it was all in Chinese. I haven't tested it again but will do so in a follow up review. Please stay tuned!

I just got the v1 glasses because those were the ones I could get shipped to my country without paying an arm and a leg in surcharges. I considered the beam but like the video says it's probably better to wait for a while, as better and maybe even cheaper options are very likely to be just around the corner. The main reason I didn't wait was because I totally wanted them for all my impending holiday travels, and also because right after that I'm moving to a new flat that comes with no furniture or appliances and the glasses will probably serve me a a substitute TV for a few months while I spend money in more necessary things.

Well, at least the glasses just dropped $40 to $340. I don't think the air 2 is much of an upgrade, so I might just keep trying to rack up those Amazon points so I feel like I'm paying half the price😅 and maybe the price will keep dropping. I think last week they had a $20 coupon on them at Amazon. Do you feel like the adjustable arms are helpful? Do you ever feel uncomfortable wearing them? I know that's pretty subjective, but curious.

Thanks so much for your comments! As far as I know, you're right. There isn't a ton of information available right now, but it does seem like there are "minor upgrades". The most I could find was that it's a smaller projector/display which reduces the weight and power consumption, but then that not-so-great part is that it seemingly reduces display size? Not entirely sure but I will follow up on this. As for the price drop, that's always good to see! And in terms of the adjustable arms... I don't think so personally, but if you feel like you often have to readjust hats/glasses on your head, maybe those could be useful. I guess that's also the biggest benefit of Amazon, easy returns usually. Thanks again for the comment.

@@gamers-generation Perceived display size is all about lenses. When doing low-light fast moving things on amoled, that is where it might change. Fast moving == body anchor mode I think, the AR experience... . Amoled gets very slow when it's not bright. For me the devices would be interesting as a full monitor replacement. 1920x1080 is not a problem, as I move my eyes and head over my 4k monitor. a section of 1920x1080 is about what I can read at one time. Add to that, I can also work on my deck at 1280x800. That upscaled to 1920x1080 per eye for movement would make it work I guess (programming in the train, with the deck in front of me.... Of course it is split screen so they think they see on my deck what I see and they don't notice that instead of typing a program, I am just playing some raunchy game).

I just got it yesterday and I charge it with my Samsung galaxy s23 charger and was able to charge it in about 1 hour and 30min. I heard about the charging time that it takes long and most chargers don't work well I don't know how it happen but that was my case 😊

To be honest I don't know if is just me. I love technology VR's ext.... I got the xreal air pro 2 and the beam device. I had two options, I'm into gaming so my options was thw xreal glasses or the quest 3 VR. I got the xreal glasses and I'm returning it. It was my first time experience with this types of glasses and don't really like it. The research I did was basically looking at ppl review on it and most said I love it this and that. I was expecting some thing else and thinking about gaming but it didn't work for my needs. Now don't just listen to me some ppl love it as I could see but the only opinion I'm gonna give you is that if you are going to buy it make sure you have the option to return it just in case. Remember my thing is gaming so I thought I was gonna take some advantage of it, the glasses for me was 450 plus tax almost 500 then I bought the beam for 120 plus tax it came up to 130 plus the cable they have that it turns from a HDMI cable to a type C, so really everything came up to about 650. I'm returning everything and getting the Meta quest 3 VR for 500 and I believe I'm gonna take more advantage of that then the glasses

@@gamers-generation it would work exactly the same way it works with the XREAL glasses, and same reason too. Currently, the only way to play console/PC games on the MQ3 is via streaming, or a very inconvenient work-around to get an HDMI connection via a third party android application. The Beam would make it so much easier to connect HDMI sources directly to the Meta Quest 3, and likely with the least latency.

Sorry for the late reply. Just to clarify, do you mean like artifacting? Or do you mean the display in the glasses literally moving away from where they're supposed to? For the former, there was some jitter in a previous version but it seems to mostly be fixed. As for the latter, I haven't really noticed any "drifting" per se, unless you use body anchor and then move very quickly in different directions (like in a moving vehicle); in that scenario though I'd just use sideview or smooth follow. Hi thanks for the comment! That's correct. It's like if you are watching a movie through a window, the only part you'll be able to see is what's "in the window" if that makes sense. If you are several feet away from a wall (let's say more than 10ft) then it might look the same as a 330" display, but it's not really going to look dramatically different from being say 5-10 feet away and then having it set to 120", at least not to me.

I agree. The good news is that the price has come down for the combo; it's closer to maybe $400 USD with the original Airs, and about $550 USD with the Air 2s, not cheap mind you but it is moving in the right direction. Thanks for your comment!

Short answer... Sort of? With beam you can "fix" or leave the screen in a certain place in your room but because of the limited FOV (what you can see in the glasses), if you're not looking almost directly at it, it'll show up as "cut off". If you have a compatible phone (like a newer iPhone or Galaxy S23/24 Ultra) you can place multiple windows around you but again still be limited by what the displays actually show. @@Motawa88 With Beam itself connected to the Xreal glasses, you can have it "follow" you or "pin" to a certain location in space. If you're using the Nebula app it's a little different and you can use the phone kind of like a remote control to aim in different areas.

Fair point, it would definitely make file transfers of media and what not easier. As far as I know, the newly updated version of beam does allow for file transfers into the system, but forgive me I don't recall how much storage is on board.

I agree! It's a bit of a miss given you can use something like the Rokid Station to become a portable android TV box.. but I have heard the Beam has an update to include some apps from the Google Play store. Will report back when I've tested it. Thanks for your comment!
