I agree. Why are the prices so high? I know a lot are made by boutique builders. . . but I don’t see how it adds up when you account for parts, labor, etc. It’ll cost more than a factory built pedal, but $200-$600 per pedal that basically has very limited functions? I don’t get the draw and how most normal people could afford that sort of pedal life. Even $99 is steep for what a pedal is, but at least these sound really nice and are in the same price range as a tried and true Boss pedal.
@darwinsaye
@darwinsaye Месяц назад
I don’t see it that way at all. In an age where a lot of pedals cost OVER $500 (prices you could buy a good guitar or amp for), $99 is absolutely a cheap price. The fact of the matter is that most *good* pedals average between $100 to $400 now. There may be a lot of pedals on the market for less than $99, but most of them are not really *good* pedals.
@7171jay
@7171jay Месяц назад
@masha. Pedals can be legitimately expensive for a number of reasons, sometimes it's the hard to find old transistors you are paying extra for, sometimes it is because of small boutique builders, or it can simply be a very high demand for a particular pedal or builder. Also digital pedals with a lot of tech in them and research in creating them can get one into that $300+ level gear. Simply deciding that any pedal over $99 or a $199 dollars is unjustified because you are either guessing at all this or just hopeful for everthing to be cheaper defies logic. If you look at pedals back in the 1970s and 1980s basic distortion or overdrives were going for roughly around $100... adjust that for inflation and depending on the exact year and pedal we are talking a few hundred dollars. Today we are lucky to have so many choices at a huge range of price points. There is lots of stuff even under $50 and there are also super expensive hand built pedals that go for hundreds of dollars. Buy what you can afford and what you like, some people are glad to part with $500 for a vintage recreation of some rare pedal that an original now goes for thousands while others struggle to come up with fifty bucks. You don't have to buy a $500 pedal if you don't want to but the offense at the existence of these products is pretty much a reflection of the general unfounded anger of the times.

I got the Cetus reverb a while ago after the 60 Cycle Hum demo and I freaking love it. I'm insanely impressed with these for the price! I've wasted so many hours just playing ambient stuff with headphones on. A quick check of the instructions probably would have helped understand and show these off a little better. One feature you missed is they do stereo in/stereo out, mono in/mono out, but they also do mono in/stereo out. So your guitar signal will come out the same in both sides but the reverb or delay etc will come out stereo even with the guitar going in mono. (So I've put mine after my Katana record out into the pedal and then into my interface so I can have stereo reverb in my headphones/speakers) The switch changes what the foot switch does, but it also changes what that 5th knob does. So it makes that knob a pre-delay or a modulation knob for example. Also the infinity/expression mode of the footswitch record changes you want it to do when you hold it, and then will redo that whenever you hold it (with multiple layers). So you can make it so holding down the footswitch turns up the reverb mix, for example, but you can do any knob changes. So you can have the mix cut to 0 then swell in, and then you can have it also increase the decay at the same time, and then you can have it also modulate less or more etc etc all at once as you hold the footswitch. These are awesome. You also kind of missed the uniqueness of the last setting on the reverb called Wave, because it's kind of low by default. But again if you flip the switch down and use the mod knob you can increase how much of it there is. What it does it does a reverb with like an impulse response of literally ocean waves crashing on the beach mixed in, and it's so cool! And again for example with that expression mode of the foot switch you could record it to increase the amount of ocean waves in the reverb when you hold it for example. These pedals really are mindblowing to me for the price.

Own the reverb and delay pedal and have to say especially the reverb is REALLY good. If you want the exitement that something like the strymon reverbs can bring you - this pedal delivers. More conventional algorithms like room, spring and plate sound very good too. Could not found a real downside apart from the double function pot for mod and pre-delay.

I really liked the Reverb and Delay. The Modulation pedal didn’t sound very good to my ears. It might be a pedal you have to spend time tweaking each different effect. @nerdebynature

I bought the modulation bthe first time I saw a demo, and a lot of the modes sound fairly similar to me. I like the tremolo in stereo and (surprisingly) the ring mod. Messing with the settings on the "infinite" mode makes it a lot of fun, but without those features I think I'd like my Flamma FS05 more at around the same price point.

So, this came out in prime day, and I liked the reverb so I stopped the video right they and ordered one. Now it has been been delivered and I am LOVING the shimmer. But a few points. The packing is not bad but it’s not great, yeah sure , it’s not just a box with a lid, but it’s not (for example) as nice as the little magnet clasped boxes Andertons had on their own brand Landlord pedals. What is slightly hilarious is "ritual like unboxing" list listed as a feature of the range on all the boxes. It’s like the packaging designer took the brief printed it on the box and won the contract! Speaking of what’s written on the box, "abundant merch" obviously is marketing speak for: a guitar pick and a little sheet of stickers.

@shanetx81
@shanetx81 Месяц назад
That’s the idea, yeah. Pick a setting per pedal. You don’t want to change them in the fly. I saw a bass player not that long ago (Jimbo Hart with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit) who had these little joystick pedals on his board (no idea what they were) but he kept having to bend down to alter them during one song and it looked uncomfortable to me (I’m pretty stiff), but he was getting some pretty cool sounds out of them. I bring that up to say there are some people interacting with their board like that, but I couldn’t be one of them.
