Hey, love your work Hakim but could you do a video on what are they called... pat/natsocs? I may be getting that wrong, I don't know. Like, I keep finding leftist channels and they turn out to be, how can I put this: socialists for cishetwhitepeople and nobody else. Its... weird. They have all the books and theory and talk the talk but they VERY conspicuously omit any mention of or advocacy for, women/POC/queer folk. They won't even address it when asked and their audience is basically like, left wing MAGA people if thats even a thing. Thanks!
As a cuban born “balsero” who lives in miami now, the anti Cuban propaganda here and anti socialist sentiment miami Cubans have just depress me. I wish more Cubans here would open their eyes and see the truth, ty for making this video.
I relate to this feeling so much, I'm Brazilian, so we didn't suffer as much under the thumb of the US but they meddle in our affairs often and I wish people would stop licking their boots.
Cuban American with my family being from Holguin, I couldn't agree more that fact that most Miami Cuban conflate all the dictatorship and authoritarian policies with left leaning ideas is truly depressing, this all juxtaposed to that fact that most Miami Cubans love social programs and safety nets, and yet actively vote against their own best interests
Its abundantly clear that the U.S. never forgave Cuba for refusing to be a glorified sugar colony any longer. The fact they have done as well as they have in spite of U.S. meddling is a testament to the resilience of the Cuban people.
@@user-mz2yb7np4kamerica murdered and jailed dissidents (communists) in their own country. Stop chocking down white washed history and learn something.
As well as a testament of the superiority of socialist policies that have helped the people live, if they had devolved into capitalism, they may not have survived this long
@@alonsoarana5307 Indeed. Despite the ever increasing toothless roar of Miami Cubans (read: Batista sympathizers), the Cuban state will remain strong in the socialist cause.
--- YES, DID YOU SEE THE WHITE-SAVIOUR MOVIE? . . . "Under Fire" (Roger Spottiswood, 1983), wherein three Americans, two reporters and a photographer, greatly contributed to the success of the Sandinista Revolution that liberated Nicaragua from the U.S.; great soundtrack, so-so script, terrible history.
Can you talk about Puerto Rico? About how we’re run by a Junta; about how our only public university has been deteriorating and getting more expensive at the hands of the politicians who want to sell it to the privates; about how, with the US’ help, the colonial politicians are selling off our beaches (which are supposed to be public).
Hawaii and Puerto rico are perfect examples of US imperialism destroying local economy, culture and ecosystems. That's what would have happened to Cuba too. Even larger states like Mexico don't fare better, it's amazing that Cuba lasted this long. Solidarity is an amazing thing
I'm puerto rican born in US and the island's history is exactly what would have happened to Cuba. Even the same industry; sugar. It's so depressing puerto rican socialist indepedence was squashed. If they succeeded, Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic could have been united as Socialist States.
I mean, seriously. The answer to this question is always, “We utterly destroyed, or attempted to destroy, their society.” This is why we’re seeing such a push by fascists in the US to erase our history. There’s finally broad consensus that things like slavery, colonialism, imperialism, and economic warfare are bad, and human and civil rights are good. Since the US is on the wrong side of these questions 99% of the time throughout history, the last best attempt is to just try to keep us from finding out how and why the US government has been a proponent of evil.
These people always say this shit to justify the evils their country does with these genealogies.... So I guess people who "willingly signed up for an American YT account making our corporate slavers more money.", means America gets a free pass. @@CinCee-
"broad consensus that things like slavery, colonialism, imperialism, and economic warfare are bad, and human and civil rights are good" I'd argue this changed almost nothing, except for the fact that the debate and argument has now been pushed back to how we define all of these terms.
I remember a libertarian guy explain to me how in some countries they have fewer rules on how to make money and "people would find ways to make money" and argued that it worked. "People have to just care for themselves and everyone is cared for". He even said "and if they have to work as sex workers to get what they need at least they don't have to wait for the slow government to give them something". It was fascinating how he framed it as financial savviness rather than a tragedy.
--- CORRECT, BECAUSE . . . Libertarians are the middle-child of the Murican right-wing; in the political spectrum of the U.S., the Libertarian stands between the Nazi and the Fascist, ergo the disingenuous language of capitalism's "nice-guy businessman".
Yeah good thing we don't have a government of, by, and for the people to regulate the rich and corporations, that way the rich can freely enslave or neglect us to death.
The thing that really surprises me is just how calling it a one party system means that even otherwise analytical observers fail to see how Cuba has one of the most democratic systems on the planet, where the average Cuban has many more opportunities to influence policy and participate in government than the majority of Americans, even if the Communist Party is the only Party. Almost like when the goal of the party is empowering the proletariat to make their own decisions, the idea of a Party kind of withers away
It’s crazy how Americans don’t also see that we have basically a one party system, you have the choice to pick between two different parties but they share the same interests from corporate entities, only difference between them is who they decide to pander to for their vote, how can we seriously be so blind to call the U.S. democratic?
The fact that the people get put first in the ideology is why the US demonizes it and countries that do it. It was the same when Russia was new and it put the people in the driver's seat. A bunch of countries that were warring against each other joined forces and attacked Russia in order to overthrow their government. Same with why North Korea gets demonized. Same why Libya got "liberated" now they are a mess. Same with Chile getting attacked when they elected someone who would put the people first.
Most Americans and Europeans could not even fathom the idea if, say China for example, had illegally set up and maintained a military / torture base off the coast of Portugal.
People who hate on Cuba are the same ones who cried like little girls during and after cov*id about empty shelves lol ,I was like dude imagine if we were actually under a fuc*king decades long embargo and terror campaign by a psychotic 1200 pound gorilla . Those people couldn't even handle not getting 27 kinds of Cheetos and we are not under an embargo but somehow expect people in these countries we terrorize to fare a hundred times better somehow and meanwhile they are having a nuclear meltdown over going through one half of one percent of the pain we put others through .
As a Canadian, I've travelled to Cuba a lot on vacation. My grandmother was big on taking time off resort to visit the locals, usually with bags of Manufactured luxury goods for her friends she made since the embargo first started. The biggest takeaway as a kid was that, despite less material wealth (Older technology like Video games and clothing styles) and less access to those things, but there was very few actually "poor" people by our standard, in that most are clothed, housed, fed and have opportunities for fair work. Contrast that to watching homeless people literally freeze to death each winter and it was hard to see how Cuba and Communism was "evil" as America liked to say
Is the Capitalist system working as intended. It's clear that letting people starve or freeze on the streets is a choice. The stick the Capitalists use to discipline workers, give them fear of homelessness to keep people doing things they hate. And the system has brainwashed most into accepting this situation without a second thought: that if you don't have economic output of some sort you don't actually have Human Rights. All in supposedly democratic countries.
Our government doesn't allow us to travel to see that because it's bad pr we'd see the truth if we were allowed to leave to see Cuba with our own eyes.
The reason America demonized Communism and Socialism is because they are a power-hungry, profit-worshiping country with a greedy ruling class that wants to keep the workers in the dark that they are being exploited and kept at the mercy of the employers in order to run their cash-cows and be paid as little as possible. Communism and Socialism would put the WORKER'S FIRST! Heaven forbid the people and workers are in the driver's seat because that would mean that the means of production would belong to the workers and everyday people (aka the ones who "get out and push the train" daily). The American people have been brainwashed to hate any system that would put them first and out from under the oppressive regime that only cares about padding it's own pockets and exercising it's iron fist of power. America is not a free country, it's only "free" for those who have money.
Would be pretty rad if the series was named ""They Hate Us for our Freedom"" (with the quotes) to highlight the absolute hypocrisy of American chauvinism. Would love to see where this series is going though!
@@juehjueconomically socialist i guess but you are progressively an asshole to minorities or economically capitalist and friendly to minorities? a true socialist is both, otherwise they are a conservative not benefitting from the status quo so you leech onto the politics of the people as long as it helps you
I've been to Cuba twice. Each time I come back to the States absolutely furious over the embargo. It's clear how punitive and harmful it is. There is plenty my Cuban friends want to change about their beautiful country, but this video helps me see how much of that stems from US harm.
I'm form Florida. If that is true why the hell do they continuously illegally immigrate into places like Miami and lil Havana? If I hated a place I sure as shit wouldn't illegally move there.
That’s was empire superpowers like the USA, China, and Russia do. They bully around smaller nations for power. Don’t fall for it. The US is just as, if not far more, guilty of imperialism then the very countries US officials “call out”.
I would appreciate a series like this on my own country, can’t reconcile with the truth of systemic harms that need to change to stop harming if the truth isn’t acknowledged.
No country has bigger cojones. To pull off a successful socialist revolution right off the coast of the US and still be around today is pure gigachad stuff.

Looking forward to watching this tonight! For anyone interested, the podcast Blowback has a great season on the Cuban Missile Crisis and the way this whole debacle was erased from US memory. They supplement their recounting of events with both interviews with people who were in Cuba at the time, as well as a lot of clips from US mainstream media, so it becomes really obvious how the media and state apparatuses manufactured popular consent.
Great video, Hakim! It astounds me how oblivious the average American is on our criminal colonialism. Thanks the stars we have people like you spreading the truth on here.
It constantly astounds me how often people think colonialism in North America is in the past and then we’re rolling up on Standing Rock or Wet’suwet’en with snipers, automatic rifles, and armoured vehicles …
USA: the blockade is an excuse, Cuba is poor because of communism. *-Mexican president casually deciding to ignore the embargo, investing in Cuba and opening the oil trade with the island* USA: How dare you!!!
If the US cared so much about human rights, they would've investigated Saudi Arabia or Israel. Or the American people would hold their war criminal politicians accountable (Bush, Obama, Clinton, Kissinger).
As an American, I want to apologize to my Cuban brothers. It’s horrible what my hyper capitalist government did to your nation. The country that needs change isn’t Cuba, it’s the United States.
As someone from and in the imperial core (Australia) who has a profound hatred of capitalism and imperialism and the global capitalist-imperialist project, thank you.

My uncle was born in Cuba and fled to the US back in the 60s. He doesn't understand why he had to leave cause he was a teenager. He fell for the propaganda so he doesn't know that America is the problem.
Amazing video Hakim! I just got back from Cuba not long ago. The effects of the blockade are real and impact every aspect of daily life. Still, it’s absolutely amazing to see what Cuba does with what they have. Didn’t see a single homeless person, starving person, or crime even in the poorest areas. Thanks for making this video and spreading awareness, Cuba needs it 🇨🇺 ❤️
My company was hired by a European oil company that was doing a drilling project in Cuban waters for Cuba. We do, among other things, oil spill response in the US Gulf of Mexico. The US government told our customer that their assets in the US would be subject to seizure unless, as part of the drilling project in Cuba, our customer had oil spill response equipment and crews on standby in Florida prepared to contain any oil so as to protect Florida's coastline. The customer hired us to provide that equipment and personnel. No US bank would touch the payment from our customer for fear of the anti-Cuban embargo; we had to establish a foreign bank account to get paid for a job that arose out of pressure brought to bear by the US government itself. That's how insane this is.

The old generation remembers "well". Here in Italy despite the presence of the biggest communist party outside the eastern block, many just fell for american propaganda through media.
