Ya, that’s what I was thinking. The frt could come up an inch, otherwise it looks good with the wheels and tires. The exhaust tips need to be pushed back near flush with the bumper.
When the distance between the top of the wheel and the fender is less than the distance between the 9 and 3 o'clock position it looks wonky. And wonky this does. The air gap all the way around the tire should be even, aesthetically.
I had a 2004 XKR Coupe, blk, just like this one. An amazing car, never had a stitch of a problem with it. Unfortunately, it was stolen a few years a go. I am looking at the F-type R (nice and loud!) I have owned 4 jags, never had big issues with any of them. You just have to take care of them.
as somebody who idolizes clarckson , after buying a jag from the era , the only thing tyler thinks about when it comes to doug is how can he "borrow" some paintings from him next time he goes there
Mom had an XK8 which is the same body style with a v8 minus the supercharger. Had to drive it cross country and it was a fantastic grand touring car. Smooth, fun to drive and the styling still holds up.
By 2003 those XKRs put out 400hp stock and are pretty bullet proof as long as they’re serviced regularly. Reprogramming the transmission is about the best mod you can do. That’s a good buy.
Please do not "movie car" up that XKR, that car is in unbelievable shape. It would be so much worse than the mild amount of "boy racer" going on already. If it was a roached one sure, but not this one. Interested to see what those Jaguar center caps look like on those wheels
I got to test drive a Jaguar F-Type at the LA Auto Show right before Covid. I had never felt a car kick me in the chest like that. The guy running it asked me how comfortable I felt driving and when I said "Very" he said "Turn the corner and put your foot to the floor until I tell you to let up." We hit 95 mph in LA surface street traffic before he told me to let off. Apparently they get in trouble over 100. Was a blast and the car held tight to the tarmac.
@@Saxophone_King Yep. I thanked Ian Callum for getting it to market. We'd had some conversations about the platform when it was in concept, trotting out the different displacements and features to use it as both an entry-level _and_ a flagship car. Sadly, the entry-level versions came late to market, and they were still overpriced :(
I would totally leave the suspension hight and just fix the camber and add a little spacer to help fix the wheel gap in the front to give it better fitment. Looks awesome. I’d also paint the intake tube wrinkle flat black to look more oem and blend in.
I had a 2009 XF Supercharged. I got that after market air intake too... it actually kills performance a bit once the heat soak sets in. Also check the supercharger pulley, it might also be aftermarket to increase the RPM
That J gate being setup for RHD and not mirrored for LHD makes me smile. So much in our UK spec cars is left for LHD out of penny pinching so it’s nice to see. So many of these still around in the UK but they are starting to thin out now.
Yes!!! The AJ-V8 SC Jags from this era are such cheap hidden jems! Well-built, reliable, quick, comfortable, and cheap to maintain. The badge scares a lot of people off, but the Ford era of Jaguar led to some truly well-built vehicles from them. The Jag 4.2s (and 4.4s in some Land Rover models) with the revised timing chain components are bulletproof and can easily reach 300k+ miles! (The 4.0s can too as long as the chain guides are replaced with the revised design from the 4.2 and 4.4s). The Nikasil problem was only for the initial run of 4.0 engines. The later years of the AJ-V8 don't suffer the liner issue, and your 2003 is well clear of that. Something you MUST DO, especially at that mileage, is GET THE ZF TRANSMISSION SERVICED. Many of these cars end up having transmissions fail because Jaguar claimed that the fluid was "lifetime" and never set a service interval, hence why many of these Jags end up at the junkyard due to failed transmissions. Get the fluid changed, pan replaced, and have the mechatronics seals redone while you're in there. The ZF box is a very reliable transmission, but old, dirty fluid kills them in short order. Fun fact: The superchargers on all the SC models are Eaton and are easily rebuilt for cheap. The ones on the 4.2 models are the exact same unit used on the 03-04 Terminator Cobras.
That's a dream car of mine. I remember when they were new, and I still feel the same then as I do now. Cherish her, coz "They're probably not going to make them like the used to.."
@@starfox_wr-45e93 yes man. That was exactly the reason I bought it as soon as I could. It was and is still the dream car. Big V8 supercharged and stylish lines. Never going to see something like this new from any brand and at this price point either
I remember being jealous when a guy in a Fuego Turbo blew me away in my Volkswagen Scirocco in the 80s. Love the old Jags. Really good car to sell paintings out of the trunk in a parking lot.
I bought a black 03 XKR Coupe with 130k on it. LOVED the car so much, however, when I really got into it, things like the Electronic shocks, unobtainium ABS module, and other issues forced me to sell it before I really dug into it. Had it been a cleaner example, I would have loved to invest in it, but I'm happy with my X351 5.0 which is immaculate now. I wouldn't be too afraid of these cars from a maintenance perspective. Just use the best parts and do PREVENTATIVE maintenance (check timing chains etc as well especially on earlier models). This was the most fun car to drive I've ever had. Easy to whip out the rear end and the SC whine was glorious.
That airbag light is one of the common issues, when it starts reading too high resistance at the connector. And yeah, seat back cover has to come off to get to it. Even more fun, go to all that trouble, clean the connector, and it'll be back on in less than a year. I think most folks just end up putting in a bypass, like I'm about to do...
One of my most frustrating experiences working as a lot attendant at a GM dealership was when we got one of these as a trade in. Royal blue, with a tan interior and top. I was SO looking forward to trying it out, but it was sent straight to the wholesale lot. They just wanted to get rid of it as quickly as possible.
Jaguar needs a full do over, probably be better of if one of the big German brands bought it,better than Stellantis or GM. Or maybe they should sell of the Rnage Rover brand as its still reputable
I was about to express how happy I was that you got a car I still covet today and then you dropped the clip of the whoo-off between Jay Lethal and Flair. Extremely good work, sir.
Put me in the group with liking the way it sits! Maybe bring the frt up an inch so it doesn’t look like it’s sagging. And push the exhaust tips back near flush with the bumper.
22:22 Speaking of the Wizard and the paranormal, look at the shadow of the Jaaaag, it's like a witch, or the Starbucks lady.
Im obsessed with these cars - im very lucky to have a 95 XJS and 97 XJ6. I very recently bought a 2016 XF as my daily to replace my 250k mile Honda Accord. If you do preventative maintenance and make sure the quirks are sorted, they really are fantastic cars!
Hey on the Monte Carlo pace car it was actually common for turn signals or tail lights to go out on those and luminas... I don't remember the exact fix but go to any W body forum and they'll have the answers
That Jag XKR is beautiful what a bargain! I miss my black Jaguar X type 2.5 AWD which we bought in France, while my wife misses her Renault Fuego I bought for her back in the nineties in Australia, "rare as hen's teeth there" much the same thing here!
My uncle got this with like 15,000 miles on it in 2005 once his daughters were out of the house and we all thought this thing was amazing the sound, the rims, the looks and it’s a JAG
Damn you got yourself a nice one there. And is that a Renault Fuego at the Wizard's? O yeah, nothing wrong with those wheels. Ah, the Fuego got some love. Deserved.
My Dad's XJS had loads of warning lights he just ignored them and covered them in duckt tape still worked fine for 20 years! And the handbrake was soggy as a wet biscuit. 😂
We have owned 4 Jaguars starting with an X-Type with a 5-speed that went 160,000 without a new clutch or transmission issue. 2 XFs and now an XJ50. They are beautiful cars and we have had great luck with them. Sad what TaTa has done to them.
I'd love to have the XKR Coupe. Just a baby Aston :D And at 6K - MAN that's a good buy in my opinion. I'd sell the wheels for something 1 size smaller in diameter, but leave the ride height (as it looks good) provided it's at least lowered with quality parts. The intake would also have to go for a OEM unit with a higher flow filter.
-19:03 I genuinely appreciate content appropriate ads. I am in the market for new tires and will probably check them out.
I have general Grabber tires on my 2006 mountaineer and love them. They are so much better than the good year tires i had. The good years i would drive down a gravel road and hey would get holes poked in them with gravel. no issue with the general grabber tires. same tread pattern as the good year tires i had but more plies and thicker tread.
Yes! Love it. I’ve got a Carnival Red 2003 XJR (the BEST color). I’m always surprised by how much attention it gets. In fact, more attention than every car I’ve owned combined. Its non-stop. But to the credit of the 03 fixes, it’s been a perfectly reliable. I Love it, and the old jag interior is amazing!
Beautiful Hoov. Always a favorite model of mine. Especially these ragtops. Smart buy. I wouldn't worry about small stuff that you can fix. Good buy Hoov. 👍❤️💙🤑
check the wiring under the seat or the carpet for water ingress, had water ingress due to the door card seal failing and letting water seep into the carpet under which a module was
Actually, I prefer the last of the XJSs, like 1992-96. The Ford-era cars, with the reworked rear and the Euro headlights. I have a 1994 coupe with the 4 litre six. Absolutely rock solid reliable and oh so smooth. Only thing I wish it had was the manual. Yes, they did make it; I drove one. Very rare, though.
Strongly disagree. The F-Type is a fantastic vehicle. I had a 2023 P450 and its an incredible value. Loved it so much, traded it for a 2024 P575 R75 (BRG/tan leather). What a beast! Speaking of beasts, the F-Pace is awesome. Have a 2023 F-Pace SVR - great luxury and performance like a sports car. Jag is a great brand, if they can figure out how to market them and go mild/hybrid EV rather than pure BEV. They are still very visceral, stylish and have a ton of soul
In the uk we still get the F type, XF & XE aswel as the f pace, I pace and E pace. But yes there going all EV and having owned a few of the current models F pace and different models of the XF I enjoy jaguars having mostly owned Mercedes over the years even in the uk there not as common on the roads as the German rivals which is what I like about them
That is the year Ford stole that drivetrain for the two seat retro thunderbird and the Lincoln LS. One of the parts that are way cheaper than Jag are the ignition coils. Lincoln LS v8 coils are half what Jag wants for them. Same stuff.
